Summary: A short message on when to speak.

Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue. Proverbs 17:28

There is a time to speak and a time to be silent. As Christians we need to learn when to be silent and when to speak. We can do more damage to the kingdom of God by speaking out when we need to be silent.

Have you ever been in a conversation and someone tells you a story, and at once your mine starts to think of a story that will top the story of that person.

Or your in the midst of a group of people and you feel that you need to say something, but you know it must be good to hold the interest of the group.

(1) A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

If we don’t learn when to speak and when to keep silent, then when things happen that make us angry, we will speak out. At that point we will make a fool of ourselves. (2) In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

If we don’t learn how to speak when we need to speak and keep silent when we need to keep silent, then how can we let our light shine?

(3) Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Sometimes when others make accuse you, you may need to be silent. Remember your good deeds will bring glory to God.

(4) But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The Holy Spirit will teach you on how to know when there is a time to speak and a time to be silent. He will give you the knowledge of God’s word.

(5) When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say. (6) Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. (7) a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, (8)

There is a time to speak and a time to be silent. Yes there is a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, we must realize that we are to be a witness. To be Christ like in all that we do.
