VBS Theme verse:

2Tim. 3:16a--“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God...”

2Pet. 1:20-21—“knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

The Scriptures are absolutely essential to who we are as Christians.

Paul revealed to Timothy that Scripture is a gift of God’s inspiration.

All Scripture is a gift of God’s inspiration.

What Christian tenets arise from the gift of God’s inspiration?

2 major tenets of God’s gift of inspiration.

If “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” then We must Believe...

1. CREATION from Nothing—Gen. 1-2 Believe it!

2. JESUS SAVES—Jn. 14:6 Believe it!

a. Jesus’ DEITY (Mk. 2:7-12, Jn. 1:1, :14, :18; Heb. 1:1-4)

b. Jesus’ SUBSTITUTIONARY , VOLITIONAL, ALL SUFFICIENT SACRIFICE (2Cor. 5:21; Isa. 53:4-5; Mk. 10:45; Jn. 3:16)

c. Jesus’ RESURRECTION (Rom. 4:25, 1Cor. 15:12-19)

d. Jesus’ MEDIATION(1Tim. 2:5-6; Acts 4:12)

If you do not believe these things then you are still in your sins!

1— If “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” then We must Believe...

CREATION from Nothing(Gen. 1-2)

Explanation:(Gen. 1-2)

Gen. 1:1—“In the beginning God created the heavens & the earth.”

To create is to bring about absolutely from nothing at all.

“Created”—arb baw-raw’—1) To create, shape, form. Strong—(absolutely) To create; (qualified) To cut down (a wood), Select, Feed (as formative processes):-- Choose, create (creator), Cut down, dispatch, do, make (fat).

Not—ruy yaw-tsar’—To Form, fashion or frame.

Man was formed from what God had already created.

The creation account of Scripture(God’s testimony) includes the creation(God’s decision) of a period of darkness coupled with a period of light which is termed a Day. So that the very first Evening(Night) & Morning(Day) were “the first day”(1:3-5).

God created everything within 6 of these “days.” It is presented from a standpoint of people on earth.

Day 1)—Light & Days(:3-5)—Supernaturally sustained until the 4th day.

Day 2)—Firmament of the Sky/Heaven(:6-8)—Atmosphere around the earth proper & beyond(See :17).

Day 3)—Dry Land & Oceans; Grass, Herbs & Trees(:9-13)—Earth & Seas & Self-sustaining Grass, Herbs & Trees.

Day 4)—Sun, Moon & Stars(:14-19)—Lights in the heavens for dividing Day & Night & for signs & seasons & for days & years. Time-keeping instruments.

Day 5)—Ocean life & Birds(:20-23)—

Day 6)—Land life(:24-31) & Creation finished(:31—2:1)—Domestic, Beastial animals & Mankind.

Day 7)—God rested from His work of Creation(2:2-3)—The day is Blessed & sanctified.

Ps. 19:1-4b—“<> The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world....”

Don’t try to force the Scriptural account of creation into a humanistic mold, just so you can reconcile the two. They are incompatible!

However, True science discovers & maintains 1)the true nature of God, 2)the true nature of the Fall of mankind & thus 3)the true nature of God’s creation, & 4)always takes into account His written word.

If God’s handiwork is not discovered in your research/explorations, then that research is tainted with sin, is severely limited, & you are firmly in the humanistic & secular camp.

Argumentation:

2Pet. 3:1-7—“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, & of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord & Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, & saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, & the earth standing out of water & in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens & the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment & perdition of ungodly men.”

Illustration:

The scientist who formed amino acids(building blocks of protein which are required for life) by bombarding a ‘primitive environment’ with electricity(mimic lightning). Where did the primitive environment come from? Where did the electricity come from?/CREATION from Nothing

Application:

?You believe the ever-present, ever-living true God who created all from nothing?

OR....

?Do you believe in the anemic humanistic ‘god’ of the imaginations of secular science? Their god is no god at all!

VBS Theme verse:

2Tim. 3:16a

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God...”

2—If “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” then We must Believe...

JESUS SAVES(Jn. 14:6)

Explanation:(Jn. 14:6)

Jn. 14:5-6—“Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, & how can we know the way?”” Jesus said to him[Thomas], “I am the way, the truth, & the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

?Why can no one appear in heaven before the Father without going thru Jesus?

Because of Jesus’...

a. DEITY(Mk. 2:7-12, Jn. 1:1, :14, :18; Heb. 1:1-4)

Explanation: (Mk. 2:7-12, Jn. 1:1, :14, :18; Heb. 1:1-4)

Mk. 2:7-12—““Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed & walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”--He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, & go to your house.” Immediately he arose, took up the bed, & went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed & glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!””

Jn. 1:1, 14, 18—“In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, & the Word was God.”....“And the Word became flesh & dwelt among us, & we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace & truth.”....“No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”

Heb. 1:1-4—“God, who at various times & in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory & the express image of His person, & upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

Application:

?Your Savior DEITY?

OR....

?Some non-descript demi-god or minor deity?

?Why can no one appear in heaven before the Father without going thru Jesus?

Because of Jesus’...

b. SUBSTITUTIONARY(Vicarious), VOLITIONAL(Willing), ALL SUFFICIENT SACRIFICE(2Cor. 5:21; Isa. 53:4-5; Mk. 10:45; Jn. 3:16)

Explanation:(2Cor. 5:21; Isa. 53:4-5; Mk. 10:45; Jn. 3:16)

SUBSTITUTIONARY:

2Cor. 5:21—“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Isa. 53:4-6—“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, & afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.””

VOLITIONAL:

Mk. 10:45—““For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, & to give His life a ransom for many.””

ALL SUFFICIENT:

Jn 3:16—““For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God sent & sacrificed His only begotten Son...who in turn, submitted Himself to a shameful & contemptible criminal’s execution(fallacious). He did this so we, who trust His perfect sacrifice, would have a place in heaven with God in all of His utter perfection.

Argumentation:

If Jesus is not God, then how can He become sin for others? How can He pay what you owe?

Rom. 5:6-9—“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”

Application:

?Does Your Savior Love you enough that he would give His own perfect life for yours, a rank sinner?

OR....

?Are You taking responsibility for your own fate? ?Why can no one appear in heaven before the Father without going thru Jesus?

Because of Jesus’...

d. RESURRECTION(Rom. 4:25, 1Cor. 15:12-19)

Explanation: (Rom. 4:25, 1Cor. 15:12-19)

Rom. 4:25—“who[Jesus] was delivered up because of our offenses, & was raised because of our justification.”

1Cor. 15:12-22—“Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty & your faith is also empty. Yes, & we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”

Argumentation:

Jn. 11:25-26—“Jesus said to her[woman at the well], “I am the resurrection & the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives & believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?””

Acts 23:8—“For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection--and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.”

Rom. 8:11—“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

1Thess. 4:14—“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.”

Application:

?Who promises your RESURRECTION to God in eternity?

?Why can no one appear in heaven before the Father without going thru Jesus?

Because of Jesus’...

d. MEDIATION(1Tim. 2:5-6; Acts 4:12)

Explanation: (1Tim. 2:5-6; Acts 4:12)

1Tim 2:5-6—“For there is one God & one Mediator between God & men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,”

Acts 4:12—““Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.””

A mediator is one who brings two parties together & thru whom both are brought to agreement regarding their position & expectations.

Jesus brings God & man to one another that man may grasp his true position & responsibility before God. That man may understand the requirements for living in close fellowship with God both in this mortal life & in life eternal.

Argumentation:

Jn. 14:5-7— “Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, & how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, & the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; & from now on you know Him & have seen Him.””

Application:

?Who MEDIATES between you & God?

?Do you stand alone before an Almighty God?

Illustration:

Describe my search for truth/Describe my empty religiosity & atheism/Describe differences separating them from truth/Describe how Jesus saved me from them/Jesus SAVES!

Application:

If “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” then We must Believe...

Jesus SAVES!

!Jesus does SAVE!

?Has He saved you eternally?

OR....

?Is your ‘salvation’ limited?
