THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Works of the Holy Spirit

John 16:7-13

The Holy Spirit did not wait until Acts chapter 2 to come into the world. (This is when the infilling was given to every believer who Hungered and Thirst after the Holy Spirit)

The H S has been active in every way since the Creation and has been present wherever God has been revealed.

When Moses and the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea the H.S. was present represented by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

A general principle can be used in describing the divine Acts of God:

The divine Acts originate with the Father.

Carried out by the Son.

And are brought to being by the Holy Spirit.

In Creation:

Ge 1:1 ¶ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Heb 1:1 ¶ God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Joh 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. :2 The same was in the beginning with God.

:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Ps 104:30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

(the spirit of God hath made me and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.)

In these verses we see the principle that runs throughout the bible, That the Trinity Works together.

Evolutionist try to tell us that each kingdom is the result of gradual development of a lower kingdom.

3 kingdoms being: 1. Heavens and the earth

2. Animal life

3. Human life

But God’s word states a new kingdom was made by an Act of Creation and the H.S. is said to be active in all three kingdoms.

1. Heaven and Earth.

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

2. Animal life.

Ps 104:10 ¶ He sendeth the springs into the valleys, [which] run among the hills. :11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.

:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

:17 Where the birds make their nests: [as for] the stork, the fir trees [are] her house. :18 The high hills [are] a refuge for the wild goats; [and] the rocks for the conies.

:20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep [forth]. :21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.

:25 [So is] this great and wide sea, wherein [are] things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. :30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

3. Human life.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Ge 1:20 ¶ And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 ¶ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The Works of the H. S.

The H.S. witnesses to the redeeming Act of Jesus.

Ac 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

The Holy Ghost is a witness.

The Holy Spirit Convicts of Sin.

Joh 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Joh 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Man is not able to accomplish this act. We try sometimes by trying to make a person feel bad because of this or that.

You and I can not produce conviction in the heart of another person. Only the H.S. can reach through blindness, deceitfulness reach into a human heart and make a person realize the greatness of his sins.

Notice in verse 9 the particular sin the H. S. convicts. It is not stealing, drunkness, adultery or any other sin we could list but it is, Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Unbelief in Christ, the Son of God, the rejection of God’s only forgiveness, no other way.

2.The Holy Spirit convicts of sin and of Righteousness

This is not mans righteousness, but Christ. The righteousness of Christ is found in the fact that He was raised from the dead, and now sits at God the Fathers right hand.

This is where all other religions fail, Jesus is more than a good man, He is the Son of God. And He lives

3.The Work of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction upon Sin and of His Righteousness and to remind the world there is a Judgment.

Joh 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

When this world rejects Christ and His righteousness nothing remains but judgment.

The Working of the HS reveals and makes known the prince of the world whom is satan is judged.

Joh 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all [men] unto me.

All who follow the prince of this world will follow into his judgment as well

You are here today because somewhere in you, you know that there is a God and He is real, Jesus is Real and there is a judgment I will face.

The Work of the HS works today through His follows, disciples.

That’s why I need every child of God mindful of the moving of the Spirit today as the Holy Ghost speaks to every heart in this building.

Joh 16:7 ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

I will not take away from the word today, but let me read it to you like this, it is expedient for you that I go away and I will send the comforter to you and when he is come into you.

You and I as children of the Lord should live such a life that this world knows there is a judgment to come upon the ungodly.

Friend do you sense the Holy Spirit convicting you of sin? Do you need to repent?

The Holy Spirit not only will convict you but He will give you Power to be the Children of God.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
