Summary: A simple Christmas Sermon for the season listing 10 thoughts from the passage concering why Jesus Came at Christmas

JESUS CAME TO DO THE WILL OF GOD THE FATHER

John 6:35-40 (NIV) 35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

1. Jesus offers satisfaction to everyone who comes to Him.

When we think of bread we think of an option to have at a meal.

At the time of Jesus, bread was not an option but an essential

Qualities regarding bread

Necessary for life

Suited for everyone

Should be eaten daily

In the Jewish mind there would be the natural association or thought of the tabernacle bread – a type of Christ

Came from the fruit of the ground – the humanity of Jesus

Flour for the bread was sifted 11 times – purity

The bread was anointed with il in the shape of a cross

The bread was pierced so that it would bake quickly

The bread was crowned with Frankincense

2. Jesus promises we will never be without satisfaction if we come to Him.

Men and women are always looking for something to provide real satisfaction.

Often this search leads us into areas the Bible calls sin

Sin never promises what we think

Sin takes us further away from God than we thought

Sin keeps us longer than we could ever imagine

When we think about why Jesus came, we cannot forget that Jesus came to provide through His death and our faith in Him the satisfaction we lost in the garden.

3. Jesus tells us that the key issue of coming to Christ is not seeing or doing, but believing!

This is probably the greatest truth we refuse to believe!

Christianity is not doing, but believing.

Doing should be a response to belief and assurance of salvation, not a means to it!

4. God is intimately aware of our spiritual decisions.

This time of year we often see Santa.

Can’t help but think about the song that goes like this, “He’s gonna find out who’s naughty and nice.”

It is amazing the powers we give to mythical persons, yet deny those same attributes in God.

We are in God’s hands; He determines and acts on our behalf.

God is not asking if we trust Christ, but will we trust Christ.

It is not in our nature to come to Christ, we are moved by God.

Even though coming to Christ is the best thing for us, we refuse to come. We will not

Kind of like placing grain in front of a lion. There is nothing wrong with the grain, but it is not in the nature of the lion to eat it!

5. Jesus has promised he will accept the will of His Father.

God’s offer is universal

Christ’s fulfillment and security is assured

No where else can we have this kind of security.

We search for security in every area of our physical life, yet take chances with our spiritual life.

6. Jesus tells us that one of the reasons He came at Christmas was to accomplish the will of God the Father.

Notice God the Father’s will is God the Son’s will.

There is no difference

There is complete agreement

7. God’s will is that Jesus would secure those the Father gives Him

In a similar fashion, that a judge empowers an officer to assure the presence and testimony of a witness, so God has empowered Christ as our surety of heaven.

8. God’s will is that all who come to Christ experience a resurrection

What a wonderful thought the God the Father wants us to experience the resurrection.

How great is that!

How wonderful can it be.

So, in a sense, Christ came so you and I could experience the transformation from a physical body to a spiritual body fit for heaven!

9. God’s will is that everyone who believes in Christ will have eternal life.

No one misses out

All are secure

If you have trusted in Christ as your Savior, Jesus came as the assurance of your eternal life in the presence of God.

10. God’s will is that all who believe in Christ will be resurrected with Christ

Think of this as coming in the front door.
