Qualities Of The Lord - Exodus 34:6-7

Exo 34:6 And Jehovah passed by before him and proclaimed, Jehovah! Jehovah God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

Exo 34:7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the sons, and on the sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

1. Exodus 34:6 - Merciful and Gracious

He is All Merciful:

Exo 22:27 because that is the only cover the poor have when they sleep at night. I am a merciful God, and when they call out to me, I will come to help them.

Num 14:19 You are merciful, and you treat people better than they deserve. So please forgive these people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.

2Ch 30:9 and the enemies that have captured your families will show pity and send them back home. The LORD God is kind and merciful, and if you turn back to him, he will no longer turn his back on you.

Neh 9:17 But, our God, you are merciful and quick to forgive; you are loving, kind, and very patient. So you never turned away from them--

Psa 25:8 You are honest and merciful, and you teach sinners how to follow your path.

Pro 20:28 Rulers are protected by God's mercy and loyalty, but they must be merciful for their kingdoms to last.

Wondering why kingdoms last? Kings and queens need to be merciful like God.

He is All Gracious.

The Lord's is gracious and stay that way for many, many years, until the person given grace to dies on earth, He is still gracious to them on their descendants.

2Ki 13:23 But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now.

Psa 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Psa 111:4 He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

Psa 116:5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.

Psa 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Isa 30:19 For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you.

Jonah is angry with Nineveh and wants them destroyed, he knows that when he preaches there God is gracious and will forgive them all if they repent, so he ran away not to preach there.

Jon 4:2 And he prayed to the LORD and said, "O LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.

2. Exodus 34:6 - Long-suffering

He is full of patience. He does not want anyone to die in their sins. Long-suffering or patience is part of His character.

Num 14:18 The Lord is slow to wrath and great in mercy, overlooking wrongdoing and evil, and will not let wrongdoers go free; sending punishment on children for the sins of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation.

Psa 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God full of pity and forgiveness, slow to get angry, great in mercy and wisdom.

2Pe 3:15 And be certain that the long waiting of the Lord is for salvation; even as our brother Paul has said in his letters to you, from the wisdom which was given to him;

His long-suffering will lead us to repentance.

Rom 2:4 Or is it nothing to you that God had pity on you, waiting and putting up with you for so long, not seeing that in his pity God's desire is to give you a change of heart?

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his word, as he seems to some, but he is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways.

That's why He forgives our sins.

Rom 3:25 Whom God has put forward as the sign of his mercy, through faith, by his blood, to make clear his righteousness when, in his pity, God let the sins of earlier times go without punishment;

3. Exodus 34:6 - Abundant In Goodness and Truth

Abundant in Goodness:

He will not take advantage of you, He is good towards you truthfully, with no hidden agenda.

Psa 85:10 Love and loyalty will come together; goodness and peace will unite.

Rom 2:4 You surely don't think much of God's wonderful goodness or of his patience and willingness to put up with you. Don't you know that the reason God is good to you is because he wants you to turn to him?

2Pe 1:3 We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God's own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness.

Deu 33:16 May their land be filled with all that is good, Blessed by the goodness of the LORD, Who spoke from the burning bush. May these blessings come to the tribe of Joseph, Because he was the leader among his brothers.

2Ch 6:41 Rise up now, LORD God, and with the Covenant Box, the symbol of your power, enter the Temple and stay here forever. Bless your priests in all they do, and may all your people be happy because of your goodness to them.

Neh 9:20 In your goodness you told them what they should do; you fed them manna and gave them water to drink.

Full of Truth:

Psa 25:10 All the paths of Jehovah are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.

Psa 26:3 For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes; and I have walked in Your truth.

Psa 37:3 Trust in Jehovah, and do good; you shall dwell in the land, and you shall be fed on truth.

Psa 33:4 For the Word of Jehovah is right; and all His works are in truth.

Psa 43:3 Oh send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill, and to Your tabernacles.

Psa 51:6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part You shall make me to know wisdom.

Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and of truth.

4. Exodus 34:7 - Keeping mercy for thousands

Deu 5:10 and doing mercy to thousands of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Exo 20:6 and showing mercy to thousands of those that love Me and keep My commandments.

Imagine if God can only show mercy to a few people, then all of those who never received mercy will die.

5. Exodus 34:7 - Forgiving sins or iniquity:

GOD forgives and forgets, He even cleans us from our past, present and future sins if we confess them to Him.

Exodus 20:6 But I will be very kind to people who love me and obey my commands. I will be kind to their families for thousands of generations.

Deuteronomy 5:10 But I will be very kind to people who love me and obey my commands. I will be kind to their families for thousands of generations!

Neh 1:5 Then I prayed this prayer: "LORD, God of heaven, you are the great and powerful God. You are the God who keeps his agreement of love with people who love you and obey your commands.

Psa 86:15 My Lord, you are a kind and merciful God. You are patient, loyal, and full of love.

6. Exodus 34:7- Will not let the guilty escape punishment.

But at the same time, if you will cling to your sins, He will not let you escape of His punishments.

Deuteronomy 32:35 I will punish them for the bad things they did. But I am saving that punishment for when they slip and do bad things. Their time of trouble is near. Their punishment will come quickly.'

Joshua 24:19 Then Joshua said, "You will not be able to continue serving the LORD. God is holy. And God hates his people worshiping other gods. He will not forgive you if you turn against him like that.

Psalms 9:16-17 The LORD showed that he judges fairly. The wicked were caught by what they did to hurt others. Higgayon Selah The wicked will go to the place of death, as will all the nations that forget God.

Romans 9:22-23 It is the same way with what God has done. He wanted to show his anger and to let people see his power. But he patiently endured those he was angry with--people who were ready to be destroyed. He waited with patience so that he could make known the riches of his glory to the people he has chosen to receive his mercy. God has already prepared them to share his glory.

Rom 3:19 Now we know that as many things as the law says, it speaks to those under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Rom 3:20 Therefore by works of the law no flesh shall be justified in His sight, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law has been revealed, being witnessed to by the Law and the Prophets,

Rom 3:22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and upon all those that believe. For there is no distinction;

Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Rom 3:24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Rom 3:25 whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing over of the sins having previously occurred, in the forbearance of God,

Rom 3:26 for a demonstration of His righteousness in the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

7. Exodus 34:7 - Will make sure consequences of your sins will follow the guilty.

Exo 20:5 Don't worship or serve idols of any kind, because I, the LORD, am your God. I hate my people worshiping other gods. People who sin against me become my enemies, and I will punish them. And I will punish their children, their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren.

Exo 20:6 But I will be very kind to people who love me and obey my commands. I will be kind to their families for thousands of generations.
