Summary: This is a study of chapter 19 in the book of Revelation. This is a controversial subject but takes a conservative approach to understanding the book.

Note: I used many sources to study this book, one of my favorites is Revelation: God’s Word for the Biblically-Inept by Daymond Duck and some out of different study bibles.

Title: The coming of Christ

Theme: To show the end of the false prophet and the beast.

Text: Revelation 19

1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

After what things? after the fall of Babylon and before this after the fall of the great whore, after the great gasp of the people

Alleluia - halal "praise" jah "Yahew or Lord" Praise the Lord Why? because God has avenged the saints and because, most of all, Christ is coming.

Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. (Revelation 18:20 AV)

We see God as: Savior, one who has glory and one who has power Salvation-awakening the gratitude of man, his deliverance

Glory awakening the reverence of man, his judgement Shekinah glory

Power awakening the trust of man, his victory (the love of God)

2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

his judgments are true and righteous. They are truth and are right.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Romans 12:19 AV)

3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

What smoke? The smoke from the eternal burning in the Lake of Fire Rev 14:11

4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

Here we see some more involvement in the praising

5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

After all these Alleluia is it enough praise for God? NO! nothing is enough. Not even eternity.

Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

This is what the world has been desiring for Romans 8:18-23

Finally it has happened. What did not happen at his first coming will happen at his second coming.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Marriage spoken of by: Hosea from a traumatic experience in his own life (Hos 2:19-20)

Isaiah glowingly (Is 54:5)

Jeremiah dwelt on it (Jer 3:14; 31:31-32)

Ezekiel portrayed it ( Ezk 16)

In the New Testament

Marriage feast (Mt 22:2)

Bridal chamber and wedding garment (Mt 22:10-11)

Sons of the bridal chamber (Mk 2:19)

Bridegroom (Mt 25:1; Mk 2:19)

Friends of bridegroom (Jn 3:29)

Paul writes as church betrothed virgin of Christ ( 2Cor 11:2)

Pattern of relationship between husband and wife (Eph 5:21-33)

Two reasons to believe that the church has been raptured

1) The bride (21:2) is entirely dressed and ready in heaven for the "marriage of the Lamb"; hence, the church must already be raptured and in heaven.

2) The bride who is already in heaven is fully clothed in "the righteousness of saints," i.e., their righteous acts (v.8). For the righteous acts of the saints to be complete, they must be in heaven and delivered from all impurity.

Events of the Church: Future

1) taken up in the Rapture 1 Thes 4:13-18

2) Go before the judgement seat of Christ 1 Cor 3:12-15, 2 Cor 5:10

3) Attend the marriage and supper Rev 19:7-9

4) Return with Christ for his Millennial reign Rev 20:6

It is exciting that God depicts our relationship with him equal to that of a marriage relationship. How thrilling it is to be married.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The wedding party always had special linen. This was with the acceptance of salvation.

As we see the white represents righteousness. Are we righteous? Only by the blood of Christ.

Isa 61:10 ΒΆ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Who would these who are the guests? Is it the church? no it is the bride. How about Israel (Ps 45:9,14)

Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. (Psalms 45:9 AV)

She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. (Psalms 45:14 AV)

Marriage supper of the Lamb: Two parables

1) ten virgins 2) wedding banquet

During the last supper Jesus said that he would not drink from the fruit of the vine until he drank it in his Father’s kingdom (Millennial Kingdom). Mt 26;29

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

John fell on his feet and worshiped in Rev 1:17 but he was not rebuked. What is the difference?

Christ is only deserving of worship.

How is "Jesus the spirit of prophecy"? Isn't everything from the beginning of prophecy tied to the coming Messiah? Gen 3:15 1st prophecy. So this does show the importance of prophecy. It is importance. As equal as all the scripture.

One thought that I had was that the author is John and he is the one who made the mistake yet for our lesson he still placed it in the Bible.

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Here is the one riding the true white horse. Not the anti-Christ

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth. Psalms 96:13

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 5:30

Finally everything that history had been looking for was about to come to pass.

Isaiah spoke of him as the one with garments died from Bozrah

Psalms spoke of him as the Righteous Branch

He is the King of Jeremiah’s prediction

Praise the Lord! He is the Shekinah Glory of Ezekiel and the temple

The stone cut out without hands of Daniel

The Lord coming of his saints in Zechariah

Appearing of the son of Man in Matthew

12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

eyes of flame-penetrating the heart all knowing

from a crown of thorns to many crowns, before we saw one wearing crowns (the beast) but he was not worthy just allowed

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)full of grace and truth. John 1:14

blood judgement as in Is 63:1-6 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Who are the armies? These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. (Revelation 17:14 AV)

probably-the church, saints of tribulation, and Old Testament saints Jude 14-15

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. (Jude 1:14-15 AV)

Four Armies: 1. Church 2. His holy angels 3. Tribulation Saints 4. Old Testament Saints

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Christ's judgment: Is 64:1-2; Zech 14:3-4; Mt 24:29-30; Rev 14:19)

Who else can do the judging but the Word of God (Heb 4:12)

Judgment will come at Christ discretion and all who receives will deserve it.

16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Here is the true title that only one person to walk this earth has been worthy to wear.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

supper-the battle of the Armageddon Rev 16:16

1) It will be so great that it will take a multitude of birds to clean it up

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. (Matthew 24:27-28 AV) Is 34:2-6

2) The whole object is judgment against cruelty and evil of this world

cf. 14:14-20; 16:13-16;17:14; Jer 51:27-44; Ex 39:17-20; Joel 3:9-16; Zeph 3:8; Zech 14:2-5

18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

war-between the nations and Christ

1) We know the war will not last long

2) God's judgment will extend all over the world

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Matthew 24:24

Our salvation in Christ should never be based on miracles or signs and wonders but only on the grace and love of God

21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

I think I would rather be a part of the previous remnant
