“You Are Somebody Special to God”

Text: I Peter 2:9

For the first couple of weeks talked about some different men in Scripture that felt unworthy for the Lord to use them. Among those men were Moses, Jeremiah and Isaiah. For the last couple of weeks we talked about two men who knew with confidence, who they were with God on their side. David was a man that knew who he was with God on his side and Paul was a man that knew who he was with Christ inside him. We can be confident that the Lord will be with us no matter what we face in life and know that we have been given all authority over every tactic and evil device of Satan. We are victorious!

We are going to continue with the subject of “Who Am I,” but I believe it is time to discover who the Bible says we are. We have discovered who the Bible said all these men were, but what does the Bible say about me?

Have you ever felt like a failure in life? Have you ever experienced insecurity? Some are insecure about your appearance, your abilities, your personality, your life? Have you ever felt unloved and worthless? Have you ever said the following words: “I am not attractive. I can’t do all the things that person can do. I am not good enough. Nothing good ever happens in my life. I am a failure.”

If your mind is filled with thoughts of worthlessness, shame, embarrassment and low self-esteem, then it is time this morning to get rid of that insecurity. Some may ask; “how do I get rid of insecurity that has been there my whole life?” If you have ever felt that way, you need to listen to the messages for the next few weeks, because the only way that we can get rid of those feelings is by realizing that YOU are God’s most prized-possession! If God had to choose the finest thing that He has ever created – He would choose you! You are somebody special to God.

Those thoughts and feelings surround millions of people around the globe and they are lies from the devil aimed at getting you so down on yourself that you will never experience God’s best for your life. These thoughts try to get you to feel you are just not good enough, so why would God ever want to bless me?” God does not have one child who is not good enough to receive His love.

There are a lot of people who never enjoy victories in their lives because of such low self-esteem. Jesus said that we are to love one another even as we love ourselves. If you don’t like YOU, how are you ever going to like someone else? Low self-esteem is a result of a lack of knowledge. I am absolutely convinced that the reason so many Christians live way below their privileges as a child of God is because they don’t know that they are highly favored of the Lord. My favorite saying is, “I am healthy, wealthy, wise, blessed and highly favored of the Lord.”

So, Pastor, you say I am special, now prove it. I definitely will. Let us look to what the Bible says about you. This message this morning is just the beginning:

YOU ARE CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOR

Psalm 8:3-5; ΒΆ “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”

In this Scripture, the Psalmist is overwhelmed at how marvelous and magnificent God is and with His ability to create the entire Universe. Have you ever just stopped and looked around at God’s creation? Sometimes, when we get home from church the children and I will go outside and just look up into the sky and admire all the stars and moon. I take that opportunity to explain to them how God created all that with His spoken Word. Meditate on that for a moment and just see how awesome God is.

The Psalmist is saying, “Lord, you are so magnificent and creative, why would you have anything to do with man? Why did you create man?” God is trying to get it through our heads in this Scripture that we are His prized possession. In fact, in the mind of God, you are more valuable than the stars, the moon, the heavens, and all His handiwork. When you came out of your mother’s womb, Jesus Christ looks on from above and thinks, man, now he is my prized possession. That is the way that God feels about you!

Paul says the same thing the Psalmist said in:

Hebrews 2:6-8; “But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:”

Some have been told that we are just sinners because the word says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” That is true, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, but that is the exact reason that Jesus came, He came because all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. He didn’t leave us that way. He sent Jesus Christ to earth to redeem us from Adam’s sin and from the curse of the law, and because the blood of Jesus worked, we are not old sinners any longer. We have been redeemed from sin. He has now crowned us with glory and honor, not with filthy stains and sins, with glory and honor. That is who we are!

Nothing you did in your past could be so terrible that God would not forgive you. You are washed by the blood of Jesus and made a new creation in Christ Jesus. You now have been crowned with glory and honor. You are of a royal family. The blood of Jesus flows through your veins. You have a crown on your head that cannot be seen with the natural eye, but it is there. It is a crown of honor and you need to walk in it.

John 12:26; “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”

Are you serving the Lord? If you’re not, you can be before you leave this morning. The Bible says if you serve the Lord, He will honor you. What does honor mean:

Websters: “A person of superior standing, used especially as a title for a holder of high office”

When we follow the Lord and serve the Lord, we have superior standing with Him. In other words, we are His prized possession. Every one of us! He loves us all the same.

Now, just to remind you fanatics out there, you must keep all of this balanced. We cannot become high-minded and prideful once we get this information inside our heads. We cannot get the attitude that we are somebody special because of what we did or because of who we are. That has absolutely nothing to do with this. Without Jesus, we are nothing. There is nothing you did to earn this honor, Jesus earned it for you. It is only because of what He did that we can hold our heads up high and know that we are deeply loved by God.

When we begin to see ourselves crowned with glory and honor, as God sees us, they we will expect every adversity to be turned into victory. We will expect to have authority over our circumstances. Why? You are God’s prized possession. You’re somebody special to God. Not only are you crowned with glory and honor,

THE OBJECT OF GOD’S AFFECTION

Isaiah 54:17; “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

The Lord was telling Isaiah, “You are the object of my affection.” I could point you to scores of Scriptures that tell us this same thing. The Lord says, “I love you so much that nothing that comes against you will hurt you.”

Romans 8:38-39; “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (KJV)

I know I just read this last week, but it bares repeating. This Scripture says it all about being the object of God’s affection. When you become so persuaded of just how loved you are, and just how valuable you are in the sight of God, then you can say as Paul said, “There is nothing that can separate me from the love of Christ. Not things present nor things to come.”

You are the object of God’s affection. You are somebody special. It is time that you stop running yourself down. Stop talking about what a failure you are. Stop talking about how unworthy you are all the time. Stop telling yourself your ugly and just a filthy rotten sinner. Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! You are the handiwork of God. You are loved. You are highly favored of God.

Start expecting greater victories in your life simply because you are the object of God’s affection. Don’t get discouraged when a storm comes, because you know you are favored of God and somehow, someway God will turn it around. You are crowned with glory and honor. It doesn’t matter what your past is like or how many mistakes you haves made, you are special to God.

Begin to expect victory in every area of your life. You will begin to see God working everything out no matter how impossible the situation may seem. Remember, He is on your side; therefore, you CANNOT be defeated!
