Summary: Mother's Day sermon

A. MOTHERHOOD IS A CALL, NOT A TEMPORARY CONDITION

Usually women considered motherhood a temporary condition -- not a calling.

They see it as a time of their life set aside for exhaustion and long hours. It will pass.

Sometimes we forget how important stability is to a child "The easiest part of being a mother is giving birth.... the hardest part is showing up for it each day..."

Today full-time motherhood is just about summarily dismissed as wasting your precious time. It is as if raising tomorrow's generation of leaders, places a woman in some inferior category of less-than-fulfilled womanhood. Moms who specialize in the home are made to feel cheated if they are not being fulfilled in some position in business.

Mother's day is traditionally the day when children give something back to their mothers for all the spit they produce to wash dirty faces, all the old gum they held in their hands, all the noses they wipe, and all the bloody knees they "made well" with a kiss. This is the day mothers are rewarded for washing all those sheets in the middle of the night, driving kids to school when they missed the bus, and enduring all the football games in the rain. It's appreciation day for making your children finish something they said they couldn't do, not believing them when they said, "I hate you," and sharing their good times and their bad times. Their cards probably won't reflect it, but what they are trying to say is, "Thank you for showing up."

Isaiah 54:13 (New International Version, ©2011)

13 All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace.

Isaiah 54:13 (Young's Literal Translation)

13And all thy sons are taught of Jehovah, And abundant [is] the peace of thy sons.

One-liners:

The quickest way for a mother to get the attention of her children is to sit down and look comfortable.

Mothers can have a few minutes to themselves at the end of the day by doing the dishes.

B. TWO VERY IMPORTANT MOTHERS IN THE BIBLE

There have been some great mothers in history. Of course there was Eve; she got things going. There was Jesus' mother, Mary. We must certainly be grateful for her stand against abortion.

The name Eve is taken from the Hebrew word, HAWAH, a verb which means "to live."

Genesis 2:20 The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living.

Eve is responsible, by the principle of causality, for bringing life (on the natural plane) to the entire human race which followed her. This makes her the matriarch of all peoples.

Eve, the first woman, was a virgin at the time that she was tempted by the serpent in the garden. Eve, a virgin, conceived disobedience and death, Mary, a virgin, conceived the Word in obedience and brought forth Life.

Mary the Virgin is found obedient, saying, Luke 1:38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May your word to me be fulfilled." Then the angel left her.

Eve was disobedient; for she obeyed not, while she was yet a virgin. As she, having indeed Adam for a husband, but as yet being a virgin. Becoming disobedient, became the cause of death both to herself and to the whole human race, so also Mary, having the predestined man, and being yet a Virgin, being obedient, became both to herself and to the whole human race the cause of salvation.

Question to all the Mothers (and women in general):

Are you obedient (to God) like Mary or disobedient like Eve?

Obedience to God brings blessing. Thrive to be like Mary!

C. SUCCESFULL MOTHERHOOD

Lets go back to Today's Bible verse

Isaiah 54:13 (New International Version, ©2011)

13 All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace.

Isaiah 54:13 (Young's Literal Translation)

13And all thy sons are taught of Jehovah, And abundant [is] the peace of thy sons.

What we are about to talk applies to mothers, fathers, and even to "spiritual mothers" in case you don't have natural children.

1. ALL your Children – Never give up on your kids. Sometimes they go through hard times but the Bible is giving you a promise. ALL your children,

2. Taught by the LORD (Jehovah). In order to have them being taught by God you need to bring them to that relationship. Jesus is the Best Master (not you)!

3. Abundance of "Shalom". The Word "peace" on the English Bible is the translation of the Hebrew word Shalom. The French Bible translates Shalom as "prosperity" (Your children will have abundant prosperity)

"Peace" is only one small part of the meaning of shalom. "Shalom" is used to both greet people and to bid them farewell, and it means much more than "peace, hello or goodbye"....

According to Strong's Concordance 7965 Shalom also means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. Shalom comes from the root verb shalom meaning to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.

Yeshua is called Sar shalom, Prince of Peace, which perfectly describes the ministry and personality of our Messiah (Isaiah 9:6).

In other words, the word shalom is a mighty blessing!

Proverbs 18:21 tells us there is life or death in the power of the tongue. Therefore, whenever you employ the word "shalom" you are speaking into someone's life all the wonderful things that shalom means!

ALL YOUR CHILDREN: DISCIPLES OF THE LORD

ALL YOUR CHILDREN: WITH ABUNDANCE OF GOD'S BLESSING

CONCLUSION

I like the Youngs Literal translation of this Bible verse. On a literal translation the verb is in the present "And all thy sons are taught of Jehovah, And abundant [is] the peace of thy sons". Faith calls things that are not as if they where.

What can you do if your children are far from God? Answer:

1. Never give up

2. Keep confessing Isaiah 54:13 over their lives

3. Give the example by becoming a disciple of Jeovah

4. Receive God's peace and prosperity (Shalom) and give them a spiritual inheritance
