Faith, Feelings, or Figures

John 6:1-13

Synopsis

6 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of

Tiberias.

2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did

on them that were diseased.

3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.

5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him,

he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for

them, that every one of them may take a little.

8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,

9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what

are they among so many?

10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the

place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the

disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes

as much as they would.

12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that

remain, that nothing be lost.

13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the

fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them

that had eaten.

Faith

Synopsis

There has been a lot of preaching and teaching on Faith. Many books on how to

have faith. We know of faith. We all have expericened faith. There has been faith

in the past. We remember moments of faith were God moved in our life. We

anticipate faith for the future > it will get better, it will be alright.

2

Hebrews 11:1

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Now > right now > present time. Substance is something to stand on, firm footing

to plant your feet on.

Three times of people

Synopsis

Feelers

Figurers

Walk by faith

Feelers

Synopsis

Walk by how they feel. Come when they feel like coming. I don't feel like doing

anything.

Figures

Synopsis

It has to add up. It has to make sense. We can look at one cicrumstance and look

at the other and say that's not going to be enough.

Phillip (figures)

Synopsis

Phillip looks at the little boy's lunch and adds up the crowd and says we don't have

enough. Two hundred penny worth is not enough to buy them bread.

Other disciples (feelings)

Synopsis

They begin to look at the time and said the hour is late, everything is closing, we

better let them go. I feel like it's not the right time. I feel like this ain't the right

place.

Jesus (faith)

Synopsis

Operated on faith. 5 fishes and two loafs of bread. 5= grace + 2= 7 = completion.

Then they put it in the hands of Jesus. Now faith begin to operate. Some people

say blind faith, buth faith ain't blind, it sees things others can't see.

Conclusion

Synopsis

Feelings and figures will change, but faith will never change. Feelings and figures

will let you down, but faith will never let you down. How many times have we told

God we didn't feel like it? How many times have we told God that we don't have

the right figures?
