Today ladies and gentlemen you will find me in the book of Luke, in the 22nd chapter. We will be reviewing verses 7 to verse number 23. Then, we will be closing with Luke 24:50-52. Dear God we pray that you give us a better understanding of Luke chapter 22 verses 7 to 23, and allow us to see the greatness in Luke 24: 50-53.
In Luke 22:7-23 we find these words: 7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. 13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15 And he said unto them, With desire [1] I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. 17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. 22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! 23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
Now we can notice many things within these verse found in the Luke text. 1) Jesus brought all of his disciples together for one last time. 2) He told his desciples that one of his disciples would betray him at one point and time. 3) Jesus would also inform his disciples what the beard stood for which was his body, and the wine which would represpent his blood.
Then we would find out in Luke 24 that Jesus would not be with his disciples much longer. We find these words in Luke 24:50-53: 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
With this happening to Jesus we can find out these things. 1) Jesus had completed his mission here on earth. 2) Everyone had great Joy of Jesus' returning unto his Father's kingdom. 3) We know just from what we have read today, that we are not here forever and that one day God will call us home too!
