Summary: To let us see the true necessity of Jesus being the only one who could come and save mankind.

Why Jesus Came, Only He Could

Sunday, Morning 12-16-12

Text: Luke 2:11

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Intro:

Christmas is almost upon us, only 9 days away from the day we as Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus and the rest of the world celebrates a fat guy with a beard. I'm not going to bash Santa this morning, but I do want us to consider something; and that is why did Jesus come? Have you ever wondered why?

I believe it was absolutely imperative that Jesus come to this earth for the purposes God Almighty had in mind. It had to be Jesus, no other could, He is the only one! I have here a few of the reasons that Jesus was the only one who could. The first is...

The Only Intercessor

(Is. 59:16 )¶And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

Jesus is the only one who can truly intercede.

Webster's Def.

One who goes between, or intercedes; a mediator. (a) One who interposes between parties at variance, with a view to reconcile them. (b) One who pleads in behalf of another. Milton.

In this verse Isaiah is telling us what God has said. God looked and found no man able to retrieve or make right mans situation. All we have to do is look at all the failed attempts in the past of man trying to save man. The record shows that we can not do it.

That is why God said, “therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.” God must save man if he is to be saved, that is why God sent His Son so we could be able to get into right relationship with God.

What amazes me is that ALL that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit went through to bring this about; it still hinges upon choice, freewill. You can choose to accept Jesus as our Only Intercessor, or you can choose to reject Him. The choice is yours.

Jesus is not only our intercessor, but He is also...

The Only Remedy

(Jn. 3:14-17) 14 ¶And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 ¶For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

All of mankind is sick. Just like those who were bitten by the snakes in the wilderness who got sick and died. So too are we sick spiritually and we will die. Unless we get a remedy, something that will make us better so we can live.

Jesus Christ is that remedy. Moses lifted up the brazen serpent on that rod so those who saw it could be healed, could be saved. The very object that brought the sickness, the death upon the Israelites is the very same thing that brought salvation. The death came through sin and rebellion; the salvation and life come through God and faith and trust in Him.

This is why Jesus in the form of man was lifted up upon the cross. The very thing; man in his depravity and un-holiness brought about mans death and bondage to SIN. So Jesus in His complete and total Holiness as man “who knew no sin,” was lifted up so ALL could see the remedy for their lostness.

Romans 3:23 tells us...

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

This tells us that no one is exempt! Every single one who has ever been born or will be born is a sinner. Except for Jesus of course because as I said earlier, God must save man, man cannot.

Romans 5:12 says...

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Jesus loves us, God loves us, just as we read there in John 3. Jesus wants us to live and have everlasting life...not everlasting death. If any one of us had some incurable disease and suddenly we find there is a cure, a remedy for our condition, we would do what ever it took to get that cure. Mankind is sick...Jesus is the cure, the remedy.

So, now we see that Jesus is our Only Intercessor, our Only Remedy, He is also our...

Only Nourishment

(Jn. 6:35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

We are spiritual beings. Just as our physical bodies hunger and must be maintained, so our souls must be fed. As we saw Jesus as our remedy for sin and spiritual death, we now see the symptoms of this sickness that man has. They are starving spiritually, they are not getting the right nutrients for them to be healthy and grow.

Hatred, envy, lust, rebellion, lies, theft, murder...in short evil. These and many others are the symptoms. As I write this message out today the investigation of the terrible tragedy in Connecticut is still unfolding. Evil is evil, those who are not getting the proper nutrition for their souls are slowly starving themselves. I do not know this man who did the shooting. One thing I do know, if he had truly known Jesus the “bread of life” he would not have taken lives.

This sickness man has works itself out in many different ways, but the end result is always death. I am not talking about just physical death but about spiritual death.

Jesus is also...

The Only Source of Truth

(Jn. 6:67-69) 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

The interesting thing about truth is that there can only be ONE truth, there cannot be multiple truths. The reason I say this is because our good friend Webster has defined truth for us. Listen to what he says about truth...

The quality or being true; as: -- (a) Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be.

The fact is Luke 2:11...

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

The reality is John 14:6-7...

“6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”

(3)

The exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be is, Hebrews 8:13...

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

If you are going to take as your source of truth the world, which comes from the Enemy the Devil, Satan, then you have no clue as to what truth really is.

If you choose to get the real truth then you are going to get it from the Source, Jesus Christ and then you will know what John 8:31-32 says...

“31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Jesus is TRUTH!

He is also...

The Only Savior

(Acts 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

This goes back to being only one truth and since Jesus is THE SOURCE of TRUTH, then there is only ONE SAVIOR.

You cannot be saved by Allah, not by Buddha, not by Human Secularism that is

(Man saving Man) not any other way except by and through JESUS!

The reason I know this is because Jesus is the source of truth, and so that means God as well because we read that in John 14:7...

“If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”

Since God the Father and God the Son are one we can believe without question this next passage of Scripture II Timothy 3:16-17...

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Which takes us back to Acts 4:12...

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Salvation from sin, which leads to eternal life with Jesus in Heaven comes through Jesus Christ who is our ONLY SAVIOR.

Jesus Christ is also...

The Only Foundation

(1 Cor. 3:11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

If you lay a foundation of any other kind it will fail.

Lay one of silver and gold...it will melt away.

Lay one on government it will collapse in upon itself.

Lay one on lies and deceit and you will be lied to and tricked out of it.

Listen to me, if you are going to do anything let the foundation of it be resting on a relationship with Jesus Christ.

You want a new job? Found it on Jesus.

You getting married? Base that relationship and marriage on the Rock Christ Jesus.

In short, get your priorities right!

Any and every thing that you do or say needs, no must be founded upon Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:

It is my prayer this morning that you have seen clearly through Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ the Son of God, the King of Kings, the Way the Truth and the Life, is the ONLY ONE who could have come to this earth and be born in that “Little town of Bethlehem.”

Why did Jesus come? He is the only one who could!

Close as the Spirit leads....
