Again and again the Lord had sent his prophets and seers to warn both Israel and Judah: “Turn from all your evil ways. Obey my commands and decrees—the entire law that I commanded your ancestors to obey, and that I gave you through my servants the prophets.”

But the Israelites would not listen. They were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to believe in the Lord their God.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. GOD will defend this city

GOD will defend the city where you are. GOD will not abandon or forsake you.

2 Kings 20:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own honor and for the sake of my servant David.’”

Psalms 46:5-6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it.

The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts!

Psalms 48:2-8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King!

God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers, revealing himself as its defender.

The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city.

But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.

They were gripped with terror and writhed in pain like a woman in labor.

You destroyed them like the mighty ships of Tarshish shattered by a powerful east wind.

We had heard of the city’s glory, but now we have seen it ourselves— the city of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. It is the city of our God; he will make it safe forever. Interlude

B. GOD will save this city

GOD will save the city where you are.

Isaiah 31:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will hover over Jerusalem and protect it like a bird protecting its nest. He will defend and save the city; he will pass over it and rescue it.”

Isaiah 38:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. Yes, I will defend this city.’

C. For GOD's sake

GOD's reputation is at stake when He saves us not our own reputation so trust GOD He will do it because He decided it long ago.

Ephesians 1:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

Ephesians 1:14 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

D. For sake of David

In the New Covenant, GOD saves because of CHRIST's sake, and CHRIST is in us.

Isaiah 9:7 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

Jeremiah 23:5-6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“For the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land.

And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.

Psalms 5:11 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy.

Psalms 31:2 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.

Isaiah 31:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will hover over Jerusalem and protect it like a bird protecting its nest. He will defend and save the city; he will pass over it and rescue it.”

Isaiah 37:35 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

‘For my own honor and for the sake of my servant David, I will defend this city and protect it.’”

2 Kings 19:35 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

That night the angel of the Lord went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the surviving Assyrians woke up the next morning, they found corpses everywhere.
