I. EXORDIUM:

Are you given corrections or rebuke?

Good for you, you are wise person then.

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show that corrections and rebukes will make us better with the LORD as it's correctly administered inside the church.

IV. TEXT:

Proverbs 9:7-9 (Amplified Bible)

He who rebukes a scorner heaps upon himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man gets for himself bruises.

Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.

Give instruction to a wise man and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man (one upright and in right standing with God) and he will increase in learning.

V. THESIS:

Corrections and rebukes will make us better with the LORD as it's correctly administered inside the church.

VI. TITLE:

Corrections and rebukes

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Authors: Solomon is generally credited with large portion of book of Proverbs.

B. Date written: Solomon's proverbs were probably written, collected and edited before his character decline (931 B.C.)

C. Purpose: to give moral instruction

D. To whom written: For young people

E. Main Theme: fear of the LORD

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Don't correct or rebuke:

1. Mocker - you invite insult and he will hate you.

Mocker or scorner - those who make mouths at, to scoff

2. Wicked man - you incur abuse

Wicked man are those who are morally wrong, concretely a bad person, condemned, guilty, ungodly, wicked man. They don't have the LORD JESUS CHRIST in their hearts to begin with. They only listen to themselves.

That's why in our church, we have church leaders, who are responsible to groups of people that they teach and instruct. Usually teaching and instruction are in the form of a bible study or care group where each member are being cared for inside the church and as long as they are inside the church, they are taken care of spiritually and morally and in their other areas of their life. It's not proper for us as Christians to go about outside our churches and rebuke someone especially if that someone is not inside our circle of influence or not our responsibility as a church leader. We are inviting insults, hatreds and even abuse.

Matthew 7:6 (Amplified Bible)

Do not give that which is holy (the sacred thing) to the dogs, and do not throw your pearls before hogs, lest they trample upon them with their feet and turn and tear you in pieces.

This is the reason why we bring people to the barn, that is the church, the store house of people and money, so that they can be taught, trained, instructed in the ways of the LORD GOD, so finally they can say with the wise, that there's GOD in our midst. (“God is truly here among you.”)

1 Corinthians 14:25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

B. Instruct and teach

1. Instruct a wise man - he will be wiser

If the Bible says, the fool said in his heart,"There's no GOD", then the wise man is the opposite. Wise man are those who wait for, look for, hope for and expect GOD to act in his life and they will never be put to shame.

Isaiah 49:23 (Amplified Bible)

And kings shall be your foster fathers and guardians, and their queens your nursing mothers. They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall know [with an acquaintance and understanding based on and grounded in personal experience] that I am the Lord; for they shall not be put to shame who wait for, look for, hope for, and expect Me.

2. Teach a righteous man - he will add to his learning

A righteous man is a just man who is just, lawful, righteous. Those who have the LORD JESUS CHRIST in their hearts and became righteous because of what the LORD JESUS CHRIST have done on the Cross of Calvary 2,000+ years ago.

Isaiah 50:6-8 (Amplified Bible)

I gave My back to the smiters and My cheeks to those who plucked off the hair; I hid not My face from shame and spitting.

For the Lord God helps Me; therefore have I not been ashamed or confounded. Therefore have I set My face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

He is near Who declares Me in the right. Who will contend with Me? Let us stand forth together! Who is My adversary? Let him come near to Me.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST already suffered pain, shame, spitting in front of these people: mockers, scorners and wicked men so that we will never endure these anymore, the LORD JESUS CHRIST got our pain so we don't need to suffer again.

Isaiah 50:10-11 (Amplified Bible)

Who is among you who [reverently] fears the Lord, who obeys the voice of His Servant, yet who walks in darkness and deep trouble and has no shining splendor [in his heart]? Let him rely on, trust in, and be confident in the name of the Lord, and let him lean upon and be supported by his God.

Behold, all you [enemies of your own selves] who attempt to kindle your own fires [and work out your own plans of salvation], who surround and gird yourselves with momentary sparks, darts, and firebrands that you set aflame!—walk by the light of your self-made fire and of the sparks that you have kindled [for yourself, if you will]! But this shall you have from My hand: you shall lie down in grief and in torment.

1 Corinthians 6:1 (Amplified Bible)

DOES ANY of you dare, when he has a matter of complaint against another [brother], to go to law before unrighteous men [men neither upright nor right with God, laying it before them] instead of before the saints (the people of God)?

That's why GOD does not encourages us to bring our complaints or lawsuit in front of unbelievers in a supreme court for we will only be displayed in front of mockers, scorners and wicked men. We bring our complaints and lawsuits at first during time of Moses in front of the man of GOD, that is to be the same in our days, we bring it in front of our pastors and church leaders who will decide on GOD's behalf to show us what is right with GOD.

1 Corinthians 6:6-7 (Amplified Bible)

But brother goes to law against brother, and that before [Gentile judges who are] unbelievers [without faith or trust in the Gospel of Christ]?

Why, the very fact of your having lawsuits with one another at all is a defect (a defeat, an evidence of positive moral loss for you). Why not rather let yourselves suffer wrong and be deprived of what is your due? Why not rather be cheated (defrauded and robbed)?

IX. CONCLUSION:

Corrections and rebukes will make us better with the LORD as it's correctly administered inside the church.
