I. EXORDIUM:

Are you a child of GOD?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To enumerate some characteristics of children of GOD as found in these verses Philippians 2:14-16

IV. TEXT:

Philippians 2:14-16 (Amplified Bible)

Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves],

That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world,

Holding out [to it] and offering [to all men] the Word of Life, so that in the day of Christ I may have something of which exultantly to rejoice and glory in that I did not run my race in vain or spend my labor to no purpose.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Do everything without complaining or arguing

"Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves],"

Philippians 2:14 (Amplified Bible)

Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves],

1 Corinthians 10:10 (Amplified Bible)

Nor discontentedly complain as some of them did—and were put out of the way entirely by the destroyer (death).

John 6:43 (Amplified Bible)

So Jesus answered them, Stop grumbling and saying things against Me to one another.

Proverbs 20:3 (Amplified Bible)

It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel.

2 Timothy 2:24 (Amplified Bible)

And the servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome (fighting and contending). Instead, he must be kindly to everyone and mild-tempered [preserving the bond of peace]; he must be a skilled and suitable teacher, patient and forbearing and willing to suffer wrong.

Philippians 2:3 (Amplified Bible)

Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves].

Proverbs 26:17 (Amplified Bible)

He who, passing by, stops to meddle with strife that is none of his business is like one who takes a dog by the ears.

If we can do everything without strife, as the Word of GOD said, it's an honor for us.

B. Without fault in a crooked and depraved generation

"That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse],"

John 1:12 (Amplified Bible)

But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

1 John 3:1 (Amplified Bible)

SEE WHAT [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him.

Romans 8:14 (Amplified Bible)

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Galatians 4:7 (Amplified Bible)

Therefore, you are no longer a slave (bond servant) but a son; and if a son, then [it follows that you are] an heir by the aid of God, through Christ.

Blood is thicker than water, as they say, relationship is thicker than friendship. We are sons and not servants. We serve Him from a heart of a son.

C. Shines like stars in the universe

"among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world,"

Matthew 5:14 (Amplified Bible)

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Ephesians 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].

1 Thessalonians 5:5 (Amplified Bible)

For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness.

Daniel 12:3 (Amplified Bible)

And the teachers and those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness (to uprightness and right standing with God) [shall give forth light] like the stars forever and ever.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (Amplified Bible)

And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.

We shine like our FATHER, who is the FATHER of lights.

James 1:17 (Amplified Bible)

Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].

D. Holds out the Word of Life

"Holding out [to it] and offering [to all men] the Word of Life"

1. Andrew brought Simon Peter, his brother to the LORD

John 1:41-42 (Amplified Bible)

He first sought out and found his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found (discovered) the Messiah!—which translated is the Christ (the Anointed One).

Andrew then led (brought) Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon son of John. You shall be called Cephas—which translated is Peter [Stone].

2. Philip brought to the LORD JESUS CHRIST, Nathanael

John 1:45 (Amplified Bible)

Philip sought and found Nathanael and told him, We have found (discovered) the One Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote about—Jesus from Nazareth, the [legal] son of Joseph!

3. Barnabas brought the Apostle Paul to the LORD JESUS

Acts 11:25-26 (Amplified Bible)

[Barnabas] went on to Tarsus to hunt for Saul.

And when he had found him, he brought him back to Antioch. For a whole year they assembled together with and were guests of the church and instructed a large number of people; and in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

He who wins soul is wise. You don't know that the man or woman you brought to the LORD could be a future "Apostle Paul" or "Apostle Peter" so don't hesitate to be a soul winner but do it as often as you find opportunity to share your faith and relationship with GOD with someone else.

Proverbs 11:30 (Amplified Bible)

The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives [for God, as a fisher of men—he gathers and receives them for eternity].

James 5:20 (Amplified Bible)

Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one’s] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert].

IX. CONCLUSION:
