Summary: We have access to God and God has access to us!

Genesis 28:10-22-Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran.

So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.

And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,

so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God.

And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”

John 1:43-51-The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

It was dark, night had fallen, he couldn’t see where to go, remember Esau was the outdoorsmen, not Jacob.

Sometimes God reveals Himself in the dark, sometimes He has to take away all our other vision, all the other distractions, when darkness falls upon us and we can’t see our own way, then God reveals that He Is In This Place!!!

God doesn’t just send you from point A to point B to get you where He wants you to go, but so you can learn something on the way!!

God is not only found by ones who look for Him, but He is also found by those who are afraid they might find Him!

That why so many people stay away from church, they are afraid that they will find Jesus or Jesus will find them!

I went to a revival looking for girl and instead found Jesus!

Verse 11-And He Took One Of The Stones Of That Place And Put It At His Head, And He Lay Down In That Place To Sleep.

Sometimes God can’t get us to listen, He can’t get our attention, when we are laying on that nice comfortable bed that’s in our house, and He has to get us laying on a old hard hospital bed before we will listen to Him!!

Verse 12-Then He Dreamed, And Behold, A Ladder Was Set Up On The Earth, And Its Top Reached To Heaven; And There The Angels Of God Were Ascending And Descending On It.

He seen these angels ascending and descending up and down that stairway, they were getting the orders from heaven and they were ministering on earth!!

What he saw was activity, he thought he was alone!

But he begin to see God and His angels doing something in the midst where he was!!

He sees God active in a place where he thought there was no activity!

You may feel you are alone, you may feel God is not doing something to change your situation!

Oh, that spiritual eyes would be open, that we would begin to see God and His angels working!!

That eyes would be open and see, that we are not alone in our situation!!

And as truly as we refer to this as Jacob’s ladder, it is a reminder that is our ladder!

We have access to God and God has access to us!

Because of Jesus we have access to God

Verse 13-And Behold, The Lord Stood Above It And Said:

God still speaks to us, God may speak thru a sermon, God may speak thru a song, God may speak thru a Sunday School lesson, God may speak thru a devotional, God may speak thru a friend, God may speak thru a family member, God may speak thru a stranger

Verse 18-Then Jacob Rose Early In The Morning-There is a lot of people who want to just hear what God is going to do for them, they’ll sit in a pew week after week, month after month, year after year, but the won’t get up and do something about it!

They won’t do their part so God can do His part!

God is not going to do your part for you!

All the families of the earth are going to be blessed, by his seed (his children) but that not going to happen if he doesn’t continue on his journey to find a wife!!

And Took The Stone That He Had Put At His Head, Set It Up As A Pillar, And Poured Oil On Top Of It.

1 Sam. 7:12-Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

We need to turn our pillow into a pillar!

To many people are afraid to talk about the hard things in their life, but if God helped you in those situations, you should not only be glad to recall those situations but you should be telling about those situations, having them to be a memorial of God visiting you in your time of need!!

Verse 20-Then Jacob Made A Vow-What are you willing to commit to God?

Come Thou Fountain Of Every Blessing

1. Come Thou Fount of every blessing

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise

Teach me some melodious sonnet,

Sung by flaming tongues above.

Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,

Mount of God's unchanging love.

2. Here I raise my Ebenezer;

Hither by Thy help I'm come;

And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,

Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,

Wandering from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger,

Interposed His precious blood.

3. O to grace how great a debtor

Daily I'm constrained to be!

Let that grace now like a fetter,

Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,

Prone to leave the God I love;

Here's my heart, O take and seal it,

Seal it for Thy courts above.
