Exodus 3:14
I WAS THAT I AM, I AM THAT I AM, I WILL BE THAT I AM
Exodus 3:1-14
AM- to be, to exist. One of the hardest things for me to comprehend is the
eternalness of God. He had no beginning and He will have no end. He just is.
In Verse 14 God says, "I AM THAT I AM" THE ONE AND ONLY GOD!!!
THAT'S WHO I AM
Folks today want to bring God down to their level. THAT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE
AND IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. They use His name in vain. They crack jokes
about Him. They make Him out to be some old man upstairs with a long beard.
He is so much more than that and that's what I want to talk about this morning.
(I) I WAS THAT I AM (verse 6)
A. Moses, I was the God of your forefathers.
Amram, your father.
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
I’m sure he had heard the stories about the men of old. Adam, Noah, all the great
men of old. I WAS THEIR GOD!!!
THAT WAS ME, who destroyed the world with water, but saved Noah and his
family.
THAT WAS ME, who called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees.
Moses, that was ME, I WAS THERE!!!!!!!!
B. People this morning, this same God we worship is the same God that our forefathers worshipped.
This is the same God that the pilgrims left the safety of England to worship.
This is the same God that George Washington bowed down to asking for strength
and wisdom.
The same God that helped this fledgling country to defeat the most powerful
nation on earth.
The same God that brought us through WWI and WWII and Korea, Vietnam, the
Gulf War, the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
HE IS THE ONE WHO BROUGHT US THROUGH OUR HARD TIMES.
HE WAS THERE
C. Folks, this God we serve is the same one that WAS THERE in the darkest hour
of our own personal lives.
Sickness, disease, the loss of a loved one, financial ruin. Whatever the case was,
GOD WAS THERE He is the God of I WAS THAT I AM
(II) I AM THAT I AM (verse 7 and 14)
A. The now, the present, Moses, I see what the Children of Israel are going through.
I see the taskmasters whipping the people for not working hard enough.
I hear their cry.
I feel their pain and sorrow. I AM HERE RIGHT NOW.
I KNOW
B. The now, the present, God knows what is happening in your life.
You may think it's a secret and nobody knows. God does.
There may be times in your life when you feel all alone.
God is right there my friend.
There may be times when you're like Moses. "I can't do this Lord"
There may be times when you feel like you can't put another foot in front of the other.
God is right there my friend.
Psalms 63:8 "My soul followeth hard after thee, thy right hand upholdeth me"
I'm clinging to you Lord, because You hold me.

Wants to climb upon my Fathers knee
When the world outside gets too big for me
When the fear’s too much for me to hide
And my fondest dreams have almost died

We have a Heavenly Father who is here and longs to hold us and take care of us.
(III) I WILL BE THAT I AM (verse 8)
In the future when you get to the promised land I WILL BE THERE. I'LL BE WITH YOU.
I WILL BE THAT I AM
Let’s look here what He says about this land.
A. A good land.
LARGE-No more being cooped up like it was in Goshen. There will be plenty of
room to spread out.
Flowing with milk and honey. Good and fertile land. I WILL BE WITH YOU.
It's your land.
B. A good land, but a land with challenges. NO NEED TO WORRY, I WILL be there
with you.
The only problem is....... somebody’s already there and they are not the nicest bunch
around. There's even some giants there.
The Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perrizites, Hivites and the Jebsites.
BUT I WILL BE THERE!!!!!
C. We serve a God that was there for us in the past. He has brought us through some
tough times. Has He not? HE IS THE GOD OF I WAS THAT I AM
He is here with us right now. This very second. This very place. He is here with open
arms just hoping and waiting for you to repent of your sins and come to Him.
HE IS THE GOD OF I AM THAT I AM
Folks, He is the God of I WILL BE THAT I AM.
I don't know what the future holds for this country. Will the dollar crash? Will our
freedoms be lost? Will we face persecution?
What kind of personal trials will each of us face in the coming months? The loss of loved
ones? The loss of our job? Sickness? Disease?
How many of us will be gone this time next year? Look around, but don't just look at the
old folks. Death is no respecter of persons. Hebrews 9:27 tells us "And as it is appointed
unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."
Jesus said in Luke 13:3 and 5 "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise
perish."
At the end of your life, GOD, the great I AM will be there. He will be there to judge
whether you have repented of your sins and are depending upon Jesus's sacrifice on the
cross of Calvary or whether you have rejected Him.
Moses "I AM THAT I AM" I was with your forefathers, I will be with you now , and I will
be with you in the future. "I WAS THAT I AM" "I AM THAT I AM" "I WILL BE THAT I
AM"
