THE FOUR COATS THAT JOSEPH HAD TO WEAR!!!!
INTRODUCTION
In the book of genesis we have the story of Joseph which takes up 13 chapters 25 percent of this book.Now when one book gives you so much about one person that means this persons life has a profound meaning. Joseph life is a parallel of our lord and SAVIOUR Jesus Christ.There are over a hundred similiarities between Joseph and Jesus let me give you a few
1: Joseph was loved by the his father.
Gen 37 v 3: Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
Jesus was beloved by the Father.
2: Joseph was stripped of his coat.
Gen 37 v 23: And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
Jesus was stripped of His coat.
Mat. 27:27-28.
3: Joseph becomes a servant.
Genesis 39:17-18
17: And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:
18: And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
Jesus became a servant.
Philippians 2:6-7.
4: Joseph was tempted and did not sin.
genesis- 39:7-12.
Jesus was tempted and did not sin.
Heb. 2:18.
5: Joseph was falsely accused.
genesis 39:16-18.
Jesus was falsely accused.
Mat. 16:59-60.
JOSEPH was the son that had the MULTI-COLoured dream coat. But few people know that Joseph had four coats to wear before he reached his ultimate goal or dream. Before you reach your dream or vision these are the four Coats you will have to wear.
1: THE COAT OF FAVOUR.
Genesis 37:3-4
3: Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
The first coat Joseph had to wear was ThE coat of FAVOUR given to him by his farther,as the favorite son but his brothers striped him of that coat.Then he had to wear the coat of a servant.HAVING A COAT OF MANY COLOURS ON US IS ONE THING ,but it doesnt exempt us from going through trials and temptations.
REMEMBER GOD STILL HAS TO DEVELOPE OUR CHARACTER WITHIN US.
Genesis 37:23-24
23: And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
Remember Jesus he ask for water but they gave him vineger instead.
2: The coat of a servant.
Genesis 39: 2-6:
2: And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
In Potiphar house,he had been strip of his farthers coat now he has to put on a servants coat. But Potiphar wife wanted to sleep with him,so now he has to learn to cope with temptation,he was a hebrew in a foreign land,no one will no if he falls for this temptation.But Joseph stood his ground,knowing the lord had a dream for him and this wasnt his destiny.Dont settle for another mans dream,continue to perserver for your God given dream or vision.
She wanted to striped him of his servants coat in her lustful endeavours so he had to leave his coat behind, because that was not the coat he was going to wear for the rest of his life. Potiphar wife lied to him and he believe her instead of Joseph,so he was trown into prison.Notice he was striped of his coat of FAVOUR by his brothers and now his been strip of his servants coat by Potiphar wife,now he has to go to prison to wear The coat of a prisoner under faslse accusations. Remember what people say about us is not important as to what God says about us. Temptations always come to us when we are low and God seems slow.Remember temptations always wants you to continue to wear the servants coat,but God wants you to move on.Potiphar wife said to Joseph come lie with me,that's what temptation wants you to do take it easy and enjoy life for the now and then it keeps from Gods best for life.
3: The coat of a PRISONER or accusations.
Genesis 39:11-23
11: And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.
16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.
17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.
Joseph had to deal with a falsified rape charge.It must of had an impact on his heart and mind,but always remember your God given vision.He must had been frustrated, lord when is this dream coming,dont you know im in prison on a false charge.Frustration is a secret weapon the enemy uses to derail your dreams. You must remember God is not going to fit into your schedule you must fit into his schedule.
YOU DONT SEE JOSEPH
1: He is not marching or swearing.
2:He is not running campaigns in prison to get out.
3:You don't see him wanting to break-out.
4: Or on a hunger strike to get ThE wardens attention.
But he uses the prison as a stepping stone to his God given destiny.
5: He didn't hate his wardens.
6: He didn't write letters to Potiphar to justify himself. You no sometimes we read something's in the bible quickly,but you no what I saw when writing this sermon it's in verse 20;
20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
Did you see it church ok let me show you what the bible says Potiphar put Joseph in prison and there was no court-case,SO POTIPHAR HAD THE POWER TO RELEASE HIM,so Joseph could have wrote a letter to potiphar explaining his situation but he didn't he waited for God to release him.
I'm getting ready to build a wall and a church hall to have church in.God spoke to me and said son don't get ahead of me stay behind me let me lead you.If you no my nature I want to do something now,now,
now, but God says son don't get ahead of me.I'm not saying you must sit idle and wait no,I'm saying don't get ahead of God.
Psalms 105:17-20
17: He sent a man before them,
even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters:
he was laid in iron:
19 Until the time that his word came:
(Notice he waited until his word came from God)
the word of the Lord tried him.
20 The king sent and loosed him;
even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
JOSEPH BECAME A MODEL PRISONER AND THEY PUT HIM IN CHARGE OF THE PRISON.
How do you no he had prison clothes because the bible says when he came out of prison he change his clothes and was given the coat of a prince
Genesis 41:14
14: Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: 1:and he shaved himself,
2:and changed his raiment,
3: and came in unto Pharaoh.
Psalms 75:6-7
6: For promotion cometh neither from the east,
nor from the west, nor from the south.
7 But God is the judge:
he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
4: The coat of a prince
Genesis 41 v 42: And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand,
1: and put it upon Joseph's hand,
2: and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen,
3: and put a gold chain about his neck;
NOW JOSEPH IS RELEASED FROM THE PRISON CHAINS AND HE IS GIVEN A RING OF AUTHORITY, CLOTHING FOR A PRINCE,A GOLD CHAIN AROUND HIS NECK, HIS LIVING LARGE AND HIS IN CHARGE.
Most christians when God prospers them thats when they lose it. Your greatest temptation is not when you struggling its when you prospering. When you become suceessful remember its not only about you.God has given you sucess to help others. As you move along pursuing your vision there are certain things you have to let go of to reach your goals and there are certain things you have to embrace. Dont stop when you have reached your goals oh there is so much more for you to do for God.Make sure you go all the way. Because God will be with you no matter what coat you wearing ,always guard your heart and keep a good spirit.
Genesis 41:38-43
38: And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
JOSEPH WORE HIS COAT AS A PRINCE WITH DIGNITY.
