Summary: Calling people to the true Love of God. Feel free to use any and all parts of this sermon.

Forbidden Love

Love is a vast topic when it comes to the Holy Word of God. It has much to say on the subject.

We live in a world today that offers a paper thin kind of love.

It says to us, do what I want you to do, and then, I will say “I love you”.

The advertising companies offer all kinds of cleverly devised ways to sell merchandise disguised as love.

They tell old men and women that they need to revive their sex life with a little blue pill,

And By the ways if things do not go right after about four hours, you might want to call your Doctor.

To the Ladies they promote wearing sexually provocative clothing. They say it will help you.

I said before, I do believe Victoria’s secret, is no longer a secret.

The business world is always advertising some product using young people in their 20”s. Many times they are seen promoting exercise equipment.

They all look fit and trim, so that we the older folks, the ones with the money, will be drawn in and fooled by the allusion, that if we will buy their merchandise, we too can look like them.

Folks you could walk on that treadmill four hours a day, seven days a week and you’re never going to look like you did in your youth.

And ladies if you haven’t figured it out yet, you could change clothes three times in one evening and the guy would never notice. He’s not looking at the dress.

That is why when you come in and ask your husband “does this look good on me”, he will always say it looks great.

Then you go back to your closet and proceed to change, several times.

The Christian life is built on love. Real love is not one that comes with conditions. Real love sees the inner beauty within the person.

So that when their spouse comes back from war, scarred and mangled, you can still see the person you love inside the mirrors of their soul.

So that a husband in his later years, can look down at his aging wife, and still see the young women of his dreams, and say, yes that does look great on you.

We learn to really understand love because the one who loved us unconditionally

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rom 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

It takes a deep love to die for someone else’s wrongs; most people would just pass on by, minding their own affairs with little concern for you or for me.

But 1 John 4:10-19 says:

1 John 4:10-19

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Today we are discussing the topic of love and have defined to a good extent so far, what love is.

But now we are going to define forbidden love. This is the title of today’s sermon.

Video Wing clips.com

We just have seen a MOVIE CLIP from the movie Bruce Almighty, apparently the fact that Susan’s lips were on Bruce, did not set to well with Grace. We could probably consider this a pretty good example of forbidden love.

It tears down trust and breaks hearts and all Grace wanted was to be married to the one that she loved and to have his children. She did not desire something superficial, worldly, like a big boat or bags of money, which she expresses to Bruce.

Here is a scenario drawn out for us in proverbs, it was true then and it is true today.

Prov 7:10-27

10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

That means in East Texan, she was dressed like a Hoochi mama.

11(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

This is starting to sound like the Young and the Restless soap opera. But it is not.

14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

Wow! I bet some of you did not even know that was even in the Bible.

That was written a long, long time ago, but it is still going on somewhere in America on some street this very day.

Guys there are girls out there that will hunt you down and pursue you.

If your wife or girlfriend is with you when the chase is on, you need to tell her, many times she is already ahead of you and will pick up on the subtle scheme of that woman before you do.

She will know how to protect you, when you are too weak and stupid to protect your own self.

But, if you are alone, what should you do?

Run, Baby run.

Joseph had himself some similar troubles. He was employed by a mighty man, had a good important job, he just had one small problem, the man’s wife was always chasing him. That Hoochie mama!

Let’s read of that account:

Gen 39:9-12

9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

He ran so fast he left his clothes behind. Have any of you heard that old song the streak? Well he was streaking right on out of that house.

Now Samson was a strong man. He Slew 1000 philistine soldiers with the jaw bone of a donkey.

Judg 15:15

15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.

KJV

He was a judge.

Judg 15:20

20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.

He had a Nazarite vow which meant that he could not drink wine nor could he cut his hair.

And He was married.

Judg 15:1

15:1 But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.

KJV

But he had a weak spot for another woman that was not his wife.

Judg 16:4

4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

Judg 16:16-17

16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her. There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

Brought down by a woman, forbidden love. When are you guys going to learn?

What other kind of love is also forbidden?

Prov 20:14

13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

There is a danger in laziness. We should be busy serving the Lord.

God calls workers, to the field, for the Harvest is indeed large.

The Devil calls lazy people who are easily manipulated to do his work, through many different kinds of snares.

Moses and David were found busy keeping sheep, when God’s calling came up on them.

Elisha was working in a field plowing, making ready for a human harvest, while Peter, James and John were doing something after my own heart, they were fishing. You gotta love fishing to live in East Texas.

When you and I go to work, your boss may sign the paycheck, but you do not really work for him, but God in heaven.

Too many people today do not want to work. They expect the government to pay their bills. What will they do if there is another depression?

What is another kind of love that is forbidden?

We are told in

1 John 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

These are all forbidden loves.

How about the love of money?

Woe! Preacher, now you have gone too far, you are starting to get out of control.

How can you have too much money? Why I always taken care of the most important person in my life. That is me.

Who can better take care of me than the person that knows me best? Wow!

If that is your attitude deep inside, think of this verse found in

1 Tim 6:10

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Arrows pierce and go all the way down into the flesh striking the bone. It is a deep pain that sin will leave your soul in. This is of course what the Bible is speaking of, in this passage. Sin will ultimately cause great damage, just as being pierced with an arrow.

Jesus said that

Matt 5:40

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

Jesus is indicating that he clearly is not a materialist.

There was a rich man though, that could not turn loose of the things of this world.

Money was a motivation in the heart of the rich, young ruler. Jesus was asked about the kingdom and Jesus said to him

Luke 18:22-25

22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

God desires all, yes even the rich man or rich woman to come to salvation. Look at the account of Zacchaeus found in

Luke 19:1-9

19:1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

In East Texan that means he was short.

4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

Which kind of love will you choose of your free will today in your life?
