Summary: Wise people learn words have power... The conjuction and --- The power of life and death? Learn to release life words not poison.

THE POWER OF WORDS...

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com This is several part message.

I. DO WE DESIRE OUR WORDS TO PLEASE GOD? DO WE REALIZE THE WORDS WE SPEAK COULD BRINGTHE VERY PRESENCE OF GOD? DO WE KNOW OUR WORDSCOULD RELEASE DIVINE WRATH AGAINST OUR FAMILIES? COULD OUR WORDS HURT THE VERY HEART OF GOD?

A. OUR WORDS OF PRAISE IS ONE OF THE QUICKEST WAYS TO ENTER BEHIND THE VEIL INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD... We have a cushion by the WORDS OF PRAISE...

Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

B. OUR WORDS CAN BRING THE FIRE OF THE WRATH OF GOD...WHAT IF WE MAKE THE WORD CHOICES OF MURMURING, COMPLAINING, FUSSING, FINDING FAULT,

Numbers 11:1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

C. OUR ATTITUDES? OUR WORDS? COMPLAINING IS AN ADDICTIVE WORD BEHAVIOR.

Jude 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

II. WE MUST UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF OUR WORDS. WHEN WE DATE OPPOSITES ATTRACT... AFTER THE HONEYMOON OPPOSITES ATTACK. WE MUSTTO BE KIND AND TENDERHEARTED... LEARN CONFLICT AND DIFFERENCES ARE PART OF LIFE. WE MUST LEARN TO GUARD OUR WORDS AND THE USE OF OUR MOUTHS--- MUST LOVE OTHERS ANY WAY! WE NEED TO FIND CREATIVE USE OF CONFLICT.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

A. We seem to have lost the notion of "FOR BETTER, FOR WORSE" in today's culture.

I recently was listening to Christian radio and speaker made a statement from information he had read.

He said: that preschoolers and kindergarten students loved and accepted 100% of their class mates. The study went on to say that my middle school age the students liked about 50% of their fellow students. Then the study concluded that of the high school seniors, the seniors disliked 85% of their class.

B. WHAT HAPPENS IN LIFE THAT CAUSES PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE AND MORE TO DISLIKE OTHER PEOPLE?

I ponder how many in the church dislikes someone because they are different?

III. IN REAL DAILY LIVING AT FIRST OPPOSITES ATTACT? ---

AFTER A TIME IN A RELATIONSHIP OPPOSITES ATTACK---

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

A. CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL FOR COUPLES records the story of a young couple that recently were married. They were so excited to begin a new life together. They returned home after their honeymoon and were so happy. That first night the husband was making a sandwich and went to the refrigerator looking for BEST FOOD MAYONNAISE. He could not find his BEST FOOD MAYONNAISE. So he yelled at his beautiful bride: HONEY, WHERE IS THE BEST FOOD MAYONNAISE?

The young bride yelled back: HONEY, I DO NOT USE BEST FOOD MAYONNAISE, I LIKE KRAFT MIRACLE WHIP SALAD DRESSING. So I bought Miracle Whip.

He liked it warm in the house, she would turn the thermostat down, it is too hot. He liked green olives, she liked black olives. She loved Sunday drives in the country, he loved to take a nap on Sunday. She was a morning person, he liked late night.

B. We soon discovered that minor differences CAN RELEASE MEAN SPIRITED WORDS THAT CAN GIVE BIRTH TO MAJOR PROBLEMS?

They were no longer separate individuals, they were a couple and they had to learn to compromise and make adjustments. PEACE AND JOY COMES WHEN WE COMMUNE AND CELEBRATE OUR DIFFERENCES. OUR CHOICE OF WORDS MUST BRING CREATIVE USE OF CONFLICT.

IV. WE MUST UNDERSTAND THERE IS A DIRECT CORRELATION BETWEEN YOUR MOUTH AND YOUR HEART... MEAN WORDS COME FROM A MEAN MOUTH... WE WILL BE JUSTIFIED OR CONDEMNED BY OUR WORDS.

A. YOUR TONGUE, YOUR WORDS REVEAL THE REAL ISSUES OF YOUR HEART.

Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

B. The words that you use will DEFINE the MIRROR ATTITUDE, you can become what you hate in others.

C. One person speaks in anger and makes OTHERS BECOME what they dislike in that person.

There is a spiritual law: HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE...

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

D. WITHOUT REALIZING WE CAN GROW THE SAME ATTITUDE AND RELEASE WORDS THAT BECOME VENGEFUL.

V. WHAT ARE YOU SPEAKING? DO WE UNDERSTAND THE CONJUNCTION AND VS THE CONJUNCTION OR...

AND SUGGESTS THAT MORE THAN ONE ISSUE CAN BE HAPPENING. THERE ARE TWO POWERS IN YOUR WORDS... YOUR CHOICES WILL DEFINE THE TYPE OF POWER YOU RELEASE...

A. There are two powers in every tongue... NOT JUST ONE...

You define whether there will be DEATH RELEASED --- THE END, RUIN, DESTRUCTION, cessation, ruin, divison.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

B. THE POWER OF LIFE...the ability to grow, to change, to take action and reaction...

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

C. The words that we choose will define whether we RELEASE DEATH or LIFE...

VI. WHO ARE WE KIDDING WHEN WE THINK WE CAN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE AND MEAN WITH THE SAME TONGUE? ---ARE OUR WORDS FULL OF DEADLY POISON?

A. WHAT DOES POISON DO? VENOM? Strong feelings of anger, hatred, stinging words...

Something that can make one sick, bring death, destructive, inhibits, venom ---

an idea, emotion, or mental process that can bring harmful, unpleasant outcomes.

James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

D. Remember when the VENOMOUS, TOXIC SNAKE warmed up by the fire and grabbed the Preacher's hand? Paul knew God was with him --- God had a plan of going to Rome... PAUL JUST SHOOK OF THE SNAKE in the fire. The very thing that warmed the snake to activity became the end of the snake.

E. MY FRIEND, YOU CAN NOT HELP VENOMOUS WORDS, but the negative does not have to impede or kill you.

VII. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN RAISE YOUR VOICE AND SPEAK ANGRY? DEPRESSED WORDS? TROUBLED WORDS? DOWNCAST WORDS? DOES NOT MAKE YOU RIGHT... HAVE THE WINDS AND THE STORMS BROUGHT ON MY POISONOUS, VENOMOUS WORDS CAUSED YOU TO FORGET THE PROMISES OF GOD? HAVE WE FORGOTTEN THE PROMISES OF GOD?

A. DO WE RELEALIZE JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE LOUDEST VOICE DOES NOT MAKE YOU RIGHT?

A SOFT ANSWER...

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 15:1 (NLT) A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.

Proverbs 15:1 (MSG) A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire.

B. WORDS COME OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART.

CONCLUSION: DOES YOUR ATTITUDES REFLECT IN YOUR WORDS?

YOUR WORDS CAN DECLARE CHANGE, GROWTH AND GOD'S PLAN.

COME LET US CONSIDER THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS:

COME UNTO ME HEAVY ---

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
