Summary: NAAMAN

2 Kings 5:1-19 NAAMAN

I. NAAMAN'S CONDITION.

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

A. It was A Condition That Caused Dread.

Terrible prognosis knowing that he could only expect painful suffering and death.

B. It was A Condition That Caused Defilement.

Lev. 13:46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

C. It was A Condition That Caused Death.

“For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

A. A Captain - He was a Leader among the people of Syria.

B A Conqueror - He was a Lifter of the people of Syria.

C A Castaway - He was a Leper, separated from the people.

2. NAAMAN'S CONSIDERATION

3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

Her Concern And she said unto her mistress

Her Confidence Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria!

In God's Man, In God's Message, & In God's Method,

Her Confession for he would recover him of his leprosy.

It Was :- Simple, Short, Sure, Sublime, & Successful.

3. NAAMAN'S CONFUSION

5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

1. He Had The Wrong Person - v.4-7

(The king was powerful, but there were limits to his effectiveness.) Only One can save - Acts 4:12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

2. He Had The Wrong Price - v. 5 And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment. (About $500.000) Salvation is free!

Isa. 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Rev. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

3. He Had The Wrong Perception - v. 11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

Pro. 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

4. He Had The Wrong Plan - v. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

The cross - Rom. 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

1 Cor. 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

4. NAAMAN'S CONVERSION -

13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

It Took ;-

(a) Supplication how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

(b) Submission 14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God:

(c) Salvation 14 and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child,

(d) Satisfaction 14 and he was clean.

5. NAAMAN'S CONFESSION

15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

It Was

(b) Personnal I know 1John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I have seen the face of Jesus, tell me not of aught beside,

I have heard the voice of Jesus, and my soul is satisfied

(d) Precious now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
