His Place In Life - And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: 1. The Person He Looked To! 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel,

A) The Relationship Possessed Jabez called on the God of Israel

B) The Fellowship Pursued saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, He had a:- Closer walk with God, Clearer worship of God, a Keener want for God C) The Comradeship Parted Jabez was more honourable than his brethren Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. 2. The Power He Longed For! saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed,

A) Desired Power Oh B) Demonstrated Power that thou wouldest bless me indeed

C) Demanded Power and that thou wouldest keep me from evil,

3. The Presence He Leaned On! and that thine hand might be with me,

A) Personal Participation Oh that thou wouldest bless me

B) Continual Cooperation and that thine hand might be with me, C) Purposeful Expectation that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! What A Test B. His Problem In Life - and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. literally means, “The Son Of My Sorrow; Pain; Affliction; He Will Cause Pain. 1Cor 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. C. His Performance In Life - Jabez was “more honorable that his brethren”. This means that “he was worthy of more honour than the rest of his family”. Rom. 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. He Asked For God’s Best - saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, (a) It's God's Will Mal. 3:10. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Oh that the world might taste and see. B. Jabez Prayed For Power - and that thine hand might be with me, Nehemiah 2:8 And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. His is a hand of power (Psalm 118:15). The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. His is a hand that provides (Gen 22:8) And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. His is a hand that holds and guides (Psalm 73:23). Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. His is a hand that heals (Luke 5:13) And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. C. Jabez Prayed For Protection - that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! Mt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Mt 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 1Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. What A Triumph III. JABEZ AND HIS PROVISION V. 10b And God granted him that which he requested. See :- God's Grace - "God granted" God's Greatness - God granted as only he could God's Glory - "that which he requested" It Was Prayer :- According to the Word of God Matt. 7:7-8; Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. According to the Will of God James 4:2-3.Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. According to the Work of GodJohn 14:13-14; And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 16:23. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
