Summary: The Secret Place

Psalm 27:1-6 The Secret Place

I. There Is Personal Guidance - The LORD is my light and my salvation;

1. It is a Personal Activity - The LORD is my light

2. It is a Passive Activity - and my salvation

3. It is a Progressive Activity - 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

4. It is a Protective Activity - whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psa. 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

II. There Is Powerful Guardianship -

5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

The Test - 5 For in the time of trouble

The Task - he shall hide me in his pavilion

A king's pavilion was a tent erected in the middle of the army's camp

The Trust - in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;

The Twist - he shall set me up upon a rock - 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Col. 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

III. There Is Profound Glory - 5 in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;

“tabernacle” is the place of worship. “secret place” refers to the “holy of holies”.

The place where the presence of God dwelt and the glory of God was seen

Stephen was in that place - Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

IV. There Is Precious Grace - 5 he shall set me up upon a rock.

2 Cor. 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
