Summary: WHERE IS THY GOD?

Psalm 42:10 WHERE IS THY GOD?

The only time (The Devil) has anything to say to us is when he wants to...

a. Discourage us b. Distract us c. or Deceive us

The only way to answer the devil is with the word of God.

I OUR GOD IS ABOVE US

A. In His Person (Ps.115:1-3) Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. 2 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? 3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

1. In Uniqueness "there is none else"

(Deu.4:39) Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

2. In Understanding (Isa.55:8-9) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

B. In His Power (Eph.1:19-23) 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us–ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

1. Exclusive "all principalities"(21) "every name"(21) "all things"(22)

2. Eternal "not only in this world, but also..."(21)

C. In His Praise (Jn.3:31) He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. (I Chr.29:11) Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

II OUR GOD IS AROUND US

A. To Deliver us (Ps.34:7) The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. (Ps.32:7) Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

B. To Protect us (Ps.125:2) As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

(Ps.5:12) For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

C. To Watch over us (Ps.139:3-10) Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

III OUR GOD IS BEFORE US

A. To Lead us (Ex.13:21-22) And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

(Jn.10:4) And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. B. To Defend us (Deu.1:30) The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;(Ps.68:7-8) O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; Selah: 8 The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

Each step I take, the Saviour goes before me. And with his loving hand he leads the way

IV OUR GOD IS BEHIND US

A. When we’re afraid our past will catch up to us (Ex.14:19) And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:

B. When we’re tempted to turn around or quit (Isa.30:21) And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

C. God comes behind us with goodness and mercy to clean up our messes (Ps.23:6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

D. God comes right behind us with refreshment for the journey (I Cor.10:4) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

V OUR GOD IS BENEATH US

A. God is not going to Drop Us (Deu.33:27) The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. (Isa.40:11) He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

B. God is not going to allow anything or anybody to Get us (Jn.10:28-30) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.

C. God is not going to allow us to fall (Ps.40:2-3) He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. (Jude 24) Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteous. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid rock i stand, all other ground is sinking sand!

VI OUR GOD IS WITH US

(Heb.13:5) Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Phil.1:6) Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

A. Abraham (Gen.21:22) And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:

B. Isaac (Gen.26:3) Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

C. Jacob (Gen.28:15) And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

D. Joseph (Gen.39:2, And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 21, But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 23) The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

E. Moses (Ex.33:14) And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

F. Joshua (Josh.1:5) There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

G. Psalmist (Ps.46:7) The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

H. Disciples (Mt.28:20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

I. Paul (Acts 18:9-10) Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: 10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. (II Tim.4:17) Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

J. Hebrews (Isa.41:10, Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. 43:2) When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

VII OUR GOD IS WITHIN US

(Jn.14:16-17) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

(I Cor.6:19) What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

(Col.1:27) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

(Ezk.36:26-27) A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
