I. HE BECAME SORRY FOR HIS SINS....V 1-6

A. His Conviction....V 1-2 - the awareness of his sins

I. DAVID SHOWS US THE REASON FOR REPENTANCE. when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. His Sin was Personal, Painful, (David, Bathsheba,Urriah), Prodigal (God) II. DAVID SHOWS US THE ROAD TO REPENTANCE. Trust In God's Compassion - Have mercy upon me Trust In God's Charity- O God, according to thy lovingkindness Trust In God's Cleansing - according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

III. DAVID SHOWS US THE RESULT OF REPENTANCE. :2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

B. His Confession....V 3-4 - the acknowledging of his sins

There was a confession as to the... Reality of His Sin. (3) For I acknowledge my transgressions Responsibility of His Sin (3) and my sin is ever before me.

Root of His Sin 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Rebellion of His Sin 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. C. His Contrition....V 4 - the attitude toward his sins Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:

D. His Cleansing....V 7 - the abolition of his sins

Psa 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Ver. 7. Here is, 1. Faith in the method of atonement. "Purge me, with hyssop" 2. Faith in the might of atonement. "I shall be clean." 3. Faith in the merit of atonement. "wash me" 4. Faith in the mercy of atonement. "I shall be whiter than snow," II. HE BECAME SICK OF HIMSELF....V 10-12 A. Sick of a depraved heart :10 Create in me a clean heart, O God;

B. Sick of a depressed spirit....V 10 and renew a right spirit within me.

C. Sick of a departing Lord....11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

D. Sick of a deprived joy....12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;

E. Sick of a despised weakness....V 12.and uphold me with thy free spirit. III. HE BECAME SURRENDERED TO SERVICE....V 13-15 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.14 ΒΆ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. 1. Surrendered to TEACH TRANSGRESSORS.... V 13a ...Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; Note The :- (a) Timing Of His Message "Then" (b) Teaching Of His Message "teach transgressors thy ways" Nature Of :- Sin, Of Sorrow, Of Sacrifice, Of Substitution,Of Salvation (c) Target Of His Message "transgressors" (d) Triumph Of His Message "and sinners shall be converted unto thee"

2. Surrendered to SEEK SOULS....V 13b ...and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

3. Surrendered to PROCLAIM PRAISES.... Psa 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. Notice the Effects of David's Repentance 1. He became renewed in Strength.... 2. He became refreshed in Soul.... 3. He became restored in Salvation.... Prov 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

II John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
