Summary: Trust in the LORD

Proverbs 3:1-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

1. AN EXCLUSIVE TRUST - 5 Trust in the LORD - A Life of Total Devotion to the Lord. -

AN ENTIRE TRUST 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;

– to have faith in the Father’s Providence, Promises, and Provision

a. With No Reserves b. No Retreats c. No Regrets

2. A CONCLUSIVE TRUST - A Life of Total Distrust in Self. -

5 and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Hebrew – means ‘do not prop yourself’ –

In the negative, - we are not to place our confidence in our own intelligence.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it

Jer 17: 5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

One is either ‘Trusting in God with all the heart’ OR ‘leaning on his own understanding’

- cannot do both at same time.

3. AN INCLUSIVE TRUST - A Life of Total Dependence on the Lord.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

‘having fellowship with God’” In every area of life, the believer is to recognize, appreciate, and treasure the knowledge and presence of God.

Acknowledge Him

a. in Prayer - Philippians 4: 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

b. in Precept

Psalm 119: 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Colossians 3: 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

c. in Preminence

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

d. in Presence

Gen 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

Abraham acknowledged God. Wherever he pitched his tent, there was always an altar

Paul said in Romans 8:31 "...If God be for us, who can be against us?"

‘Tis so sweet to TRUST in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word;

Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.” e. in Praise

Ps 33:1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
