WHO IS THE DEVIL?

Matthew 12:24

Last week we took a closer look at Christ and how we need to view Him and his sacrifice for us

I. HE WAS THE CHERUB WHOSE DWELLING PLACE WAS WITH GOD

Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

This Eden or garden was not the same Eden in which Adam and Eve dwelt. The Eden mentioned in this verse was not on the earth, but was the Eden which was in Heaven itself, the Eden which was upon God’s mountain.

Ezekiel 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

What did God place at the opening of the earthly Garden of Eden when he cast out Adam and Eve? A Cherubim and a flaming sword.

II. SATAN IS THE GOD OF THIS WORLD

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

III. SATAN IS MAN’S ENEMY

Matthew 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the Devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

How could Satan be an enemy if he were not a person? Satan is the enemy of God, and the enemy of every righteous man.

IV. SATAN IS A THIEF

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Satan is the thief of this verse. He is the world’s greatest thief.

He steals wives, husbands, children, and breaks up homes.

He steals morals, character and self-respect.

He steals one’s money, home and happiness, and at last steals the Soul.

V. SATAN IS A FATHER

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do; he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Satan is a real father, even as God is a real father. Satan has a family, even as God has a family. Satan has children, even as God has children.

Matthew 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

VI. SATAN IS SUBTLE

Subtle means: having a keen, quick and a discerning mind. The Devil through his keen and quick thinking mind outsmarted Eve. Satan can out think and out smart any man. No mere man is a match for Satan, nor is the mind of man a match for the mind of Satan.

VII. SATAN IS A MURDERER

John 8:44 He was a murderer from the beginning.

Satan cannot take your breath from you but he can drive you to the edge.
