Summary: When trouble comes, who can I turn to?

Where could I go but to the Lord is one of my favorite hymns.

Living below, in this old sinful world

Hardly a comfort can afford

Striving alone, to face temptation's sword

Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?

Seeking a refuge for my soul

Needing a friend, to help me in the end

Where could I go, but to the Lord?

Neighbors are kind, I love them everyone

We get along in sweet accord

But when my soul, needs manner from above

Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?

Seeking a refuge for my soul

Needing a friend, to help me in the end

Where could I go, but to the Lord?

Life here is grand, with friends I love so dear

Comfort I get from God's own word

Yet when I face this chilling hand of death

Where could I go but to the Lord?

Where could I go, oh where could I go?

Seeking a refuge for my soul

Needing a friend, to help me in the end

Where could I go, but to the Lord?

read John 6: 66-69 (key verse 68)

title of sermon,,,,,,, where could I go but to the Lord.

Where could I go but to the Lord , for my salvation

acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

(Illustration who saved me. .During a storm , one of ships crew got swept overboard.. waves so big, no one volunteered to save him,, but one man, said, I will save him , or die trying,,, he jumped overboard, after some time, swam to him, and pulled him back to boat, when they were both aboard, the drowning man said ,,,,,WHO SAVED ME... when someone told him, who had saved him, he went over to the man,, and bowed at his feet, and cried out ,,I AM YOUR SERVANT , he felt like he could never do enough for him.....we should do the same

we should bow down and worship Jesus, our great deliverer and saviour, and from our hearts, say "I'm your servant,, ask anything of me Jesus , and I will do the best I can

Where could I go but to the Lord when I am in trouble, and need help

Psalm 46:1 To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 121:1-2 1 A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

Where could I go but to the Lord when I am afraid?

Isa. 43:1-3 1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour

Think about this, we are adopted sons and daughters of the Great God Almighty. He is talking about us.

HE is saying, I'd sell off the whole world to get you back, trade creation just for you

That is how much God loves us tonight..... With a love like that, coming from the father avove, how can we be afraid?

But sometimes even the strongest Christians , are hit with issues that are thrown their way, and that is when we need to remember , that God really loves us.

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for though art with me.

(A little boy was afraid of dark, mom told him to go to cellar and get jam,, I am afraid, His mother told him,,Don't be afraid, Jesus is down there,, Jesus would you hand me some grape jam)

, When we want protection, we can't go to Buddah , (illustration of when I was stationed in viet nam when I was in the army.I saw a , little budda statue) I don't want to to depend on some little bald headed statue------ Dear abby can't help----------ann landers can't do anything,,,,, buddah, isn't going to protect me........ NO, I will look unto the Lord my God, for my help.

Martin Luther once said....."God and the devil take opposite tactics in regard to fear. The Lord first allows us to become afraid, that he might relieve our fears and comfort us. The devil, on the other hand, first makes us feel secure in our pride and sins, that we might later be overwhelmed with fear and despair."

(illustration of Jesus asleep in boat, storm came up, disciples went down to wake Him.... Master, don't you care that we drown... Jesus asked them ,,,why are you afraid,,,,, where is your faith

Where could I go but to the Lord, when I need a friend.

PR 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother

The Unfailing Friend

The friendship of Jesus is lasting. Other friends may grow old and cold. It is not so with the friendship of our Saviour. Other friends may possibly misunderstand us. Jesus never. His love is the same in youth as in old age. The friendship will rather grow stronger in old age. If you have lost what to you seemed everything, if you find yourself friendless and alone, despised and forsaken, seek to get acquainted with this most lovely, dear and precious Friend

Jesus deigns to call us His friends; are we as grateful to Him?

John 15:15 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Where could I go but to the Lord, when I need strength

Isa. 41:10 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness

Where could I go but to the Lord, when I am lonely, and sad, and feel unloved

JER 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee

( story about christian and Islam,, Jesus loves you, pushed her out of his way, I will convert to Islam, if you will show me one place in the Koran , where it says Ali loves you,,, man couldn't and converted to Christianity after reading Bible)

Isa. 43:4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth,..." Psalm 8:1

Our names are precious to us....they reveal who we are.

They are a personal connection, a unique part of us.

Names in Biblical times were very important ,as they revealed a person's character.

As we read through Scripture we can see the importance of names,

Let us look at some of the Names of God.

God has many Names and each reveals Him in a different way.

God's Names represent His attributes, His nature.

Therefore, it is important that we know God by His many Names.

I hope you are encouraged and uplifted as I read these Names of God.

I would urge you to take time to worship Him daily

by calling upon Him using His various Names...

to do so will be an awesome experience in knowing God.
