41He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” (Mark 12: 41-44; NRSV)
This passage is often referred to as “the widow’s mite”; a mite was a term used to describe the least valuable coins in that economy. But in this passage, we also see the widow’s might. She gave not from the abundance of her riches, but from the abundance of her heart. Wealthier people may have given much, but she gave all.
Please remember to give as God has blessed you. And remember that even if your resources are limited, that a mite is mighty in the eyes of God if given from the heart.
