The two major events are found in chapter 19. They are the marriage of the lamb (vs. 9) and the second coming of Christ (vs. 11). Two great suppers are also found here in this chapter as well – the marriage supper of the lamb vs. 7-9 and the supper of the great God when of the birds come and feast upon the corpse of his enemies vs. 17-18

Rev 19:1-2 (NASB) “After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; BECAUSE HIS JUDGMENTS ARE TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS; for He has judged the great harlot who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, and HE HAS AVENGED THE BLOOD OF HIS BOND-SERVANTS ON HER."

a. John heard – v. 1

(1) a loud voice

- of a great multitude in heaven saying:

"Hallelujah!

Hallelujah = praise the Lord. Hallelujah is found four times in the book of Revelation and it is only found in Revelation chapter nineteen.

Psalm 104:35 “Let sinners be consumed from the earth And let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!”

- salvation, glory, honor, and power belong to the Lord

- His judgments are true and righteous

- He has judged the great harlot who had corrupted the earth

- He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants

Rev 19:3 (NASB) “And a second time they said, "Hallelujah! HER SMOKE RISES UP FOREVER AND EVER."

b. John hears them speak again saying – v. 3

"Hallelujah! HER SMOKE RISES UP FOREVER AND EVER."

Rev 19:4 (NASB) “And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne saying, "Amen. Hallelujah!"

c. The twenty-four elder and the four living creatures – v. 4

(1) fell down

(2) worshiped

- God who sits on the throne

(3) said

"Amen. Hallelujah!"

Some have questioned this rejoicing knowing that they are praising God for the destruction of much of humanity. Where are the tears for the slain they ask? Why is there not sorrow for those who have died? I can see this happening in 3 ways:

First – the tears are gone because the great battle between good and evil is finally won. I remember seeing a pictures of soldiers at the end of World War Two when victory was officially declared folks ran in the streets.

People were running and jumping for joy. The war that caused so much death and suffering was over. I doubt if you would have found anyone in this country crying for the enemy that day.

Second – the awful persecution of the saints on earth is finished.

Third – God is now setting things right. The old things are passing and a new order is about to take hold.

Rev 19:5 (NASB) “And a voice came from the throne, saying, "Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great."

e. A voice from the throne said – v. 5

"Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great."

Rev 19:6-7 (NASB) “Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready."

f. John hears – v. 6-7

(1) something like the voice of a great multitude

(2) something like the sound of many waters

(3) something like ths sound of mighty peals of thunder – saying

"Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready."

Rev 19:8 (NASB) “It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”

g. the Bride is given – v. 8

(1) clothing of fine linen to clothe herself

- bright linen

- clean linen

(a) which is the righteous acts of the saints

Rev 19:9 (NASB) “Then he *said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" And he *said to me, "These are true words of God."

h. he says – v. 9

"Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'"

"These are true words of God."

Rev 19:10 (NASB) “Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

i. John falls at his feet to worship him – v. 10

(1) but he said:

"Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

The next section can be outlined as this:

1. The Coming of the King of Kings to make war. (vs. 11-16)

2. The gathering for the supper of God. (vs. 17-18)

3. The Overthrow of the beast and his armies. (vs. 19-21)

Rev 19:11-13 (NASB) “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.”

This section deals with the coming of Christ. The marriage ceremony is complete, the Lamb and his bride are one, now Jesus returns to set up or better to reclaim his kingdom.

j. John sees – v. 11-13

(1) heaven opened – v. 11

(2) a white horse

(3) “One” on the horse

- He is called Faithful

- He is called True

In righteousness He judges

In righteousness He wages war – Psalm 45:3-6

- His eyes are a flame of fire – v. 12

- His head is crowned with many diadems

- He has a name written on Him

Which no one knows except Himself

- He is clothed with a robe - 13

Dipped in blood

- His name is called The Word of God

This is the second time heaven is spoken of as being opened in the book of Revelation. In Revelation 4:1-2 we saw heaven opened to allow John to enter. This time heaven is opened to allow Jesus and his army out of heaven. We are going to see the shortest and bloodiest war in the history of mankind here.

The unmentioned name here reminds us that no man has yet seen Jesus as he is about to display himself. He is coming to conquer the earth. He is a warrior.

Rev 19:14 (NASB) “And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.”

(4)The armies of heaven are – v. 14

- clothed in fine linen

White linen

Clean linen

- following Him

On white horses

Rev 19:15-16 (NASB) “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

(5) the “One” on the horse – v. 15

- has a sharp sword coming out of His mouth

That He may strike down the nations

He will rule them with an iron rod

- treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God

- wears a robe and on His thigh He has a name written – v. 16

"KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

This short battle is won by the Lord using the sharp sword. Most think this sharp sword represents the Word of God. He can speak and things will be made right.

Rev 19:17-18 (NASB) “Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, "Come, assemble for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great."

k. John sees – v. 17-18

(1) an angel

- standing in the sun

- crying out with a loud voice saying

To all the birds which fly in midheaven

"Come, assemble for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great."

It is interesting to note that the angel invites the birds to get ready to eat before the battle is even fought. The angel knows what the outcome of the battle will be.

Rev 19:19 (NASB) “And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.”

l. John sees – v. 19

(1) the beast

(2) the kings of the earth

Rev 19:20-21 (NASB) “And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.”

m. the battle – v. 20-21

(1) the beast was seized – v. 20

(2) the false prophet was seized

- who performed the signs in his presence

By which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast

Those who worshiped the image of the beast

(3) the beast and the false prophet

- are thrown alive into the lake of fire

Which burns with brimstone

(4) the rest of the army of the beast

- were killed with the sword

Which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the white horse
