WICKEDNESS That INVITES REPERCUSSION-VI—Genesis 6:1-8

Attention:

Wash the Dishes Pleeease!

A young man called his mother & announced excitedly that he had just met a young lady at church who was of true Christian character & virtue. He was so thrilled, he could hardly contain himself. But he hadn’t asked her out on a date yet, so he asked his mother what he should do.

His mother had an idea, knowing that her son was an excellent cook: “Why don't you send her flowers, & on the card invite her to your apartment for a home-cooked meal?”

He thought this was a great strategy. He made his roommates aware of the situation so they would behave themselves. And a week later, the woman came to dinner. His mother called the next day to see how things had gone.

He moaned, “I was totally humiliated.” “She insisted on washing the dishes.”

His mother asks, “What's wrong with that? Your father & I have some of our best conversations while washing dishes together.”

Her son dejectedly replied, “We hadn't started eating yet!”

There are things we may do or not do, that circumvent/destroy our best intentions.

Self-service, self-love, & flesh-driven feeling wreak havoc on us & others. In Noah’s day the majority of humanity did not consider, &/or were indifferent towards, or were openly malicious toward their Creator.

Likewise today, when Christ is considered inconsequential to a person’s or a nation’s life, vitally important matters are treated as though they were of little worth. Simultaneously, other things become elevated to the place of indispensability, taking Christ’s place as Head. If we are not vigilant to honor Christ, we find ourselves making great sacrifices for that which has no eternal value, for the sake of temporal satisfaction.

Genesis records the wanton wickedness of humanity & its repercussions.

Repercussion—An unintended consequence occurring some time after an event or action, esp. an unwelcome one.

Wanton wickedness invites repercussion from God.

SOLUTION(:7)

Explanation: (:7) God’s Solution/‘His’ way changes

:7—“So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man & beast, creeping thing & birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.””

YaHoWeH’s solution for the wickedness to which man had descended, was to “destroy” that very crown of His creation from the earth. To wipe Him from it.

This destruction would not only effect man but animals as well. All creatures are dependent upon man for the fullness of their existence. All nature/creation is thus inextricably tied to mankind’s resolve/decision/choice!(Rom. 8:18-22)

Rom. 8:18-23—“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans & labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

If man chooses destructive spirituality & its resulting behaviors, then destruction—a spirit of destruction—reigns & encompasses all creation...If man chooses spiritual truth & God’s salvation, then a salvific spirit reigns & encompasses all creation!

God will supply His Solution thru the Flood. It is intended to remove opposing/antithetical elements, thus bringing man freely back to the true God.

Argumentation:

Prov. 10:27—“The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.”

Prov. 16:4—“The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.”

Not that God created them wicked, but that He created them.

Jer. 4:21-28—“How long will I see the standard, And hear the sound of the trumpet? “For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, & indeed it was without form, & void; And the heavens, they had no light. I beheld the mountains, & indeed they trembled, And all the hills moved back & forth. I beheld, & indeed there was no man, And all the birds of the heavens had fled. I beheld, & indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the LORD, By His fierce anger. For thus says the LORD: “The whole land shall be desolate; Yet I will not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, And the heavens above be black, Because I have spoken. I have purposed & will not relent, Nor will I turn back from it.”

Rev. 20:11—“Then I saw a great white throne & Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth & the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.”

Rom. 3:19-27—“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, & all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law & the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all & on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just & the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.”

Mat. 24:37-44—“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating & drinking, marrying & giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, “& did not know until the flood came & took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken & the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken & the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched & not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Acts 5:26-39—“Then the captain went with the officers & brought them[Peter & other apostles] without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, & intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” But Peter & the other apostles answered & said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince & Savior, to give repentance to Israel & forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, & so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” When they heard this, they were furious & plotted to kill them. Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, & commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while. And he said to them: “Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men. For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, & all who obeyed him were scattered & came to nothing. After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, & drew away many people after him. He also perished, & all who obeyed him were dispersed. And now I say to you, keep away from these men & let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; “but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it--lest you even be found to fight against God.”

Is your SOLUTION God’s SOLUTION?

Jn. 14:6—Jesus is God’s Solution!—“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, & the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

The Roman’s Road to Salvation:

Because of our sin, we are separated from God.

“For all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God.”(Romans 3:23)

The Penalty for our sin is death.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”(Romans 6:23)

The penalty for our sin was paid by Jesus Christ!

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8)

If we repent of our sin, then confess & trust Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior, we will be saved from our sins!

“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”(Romans 10:13)

“...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus & believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, & with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”(Romans 10:9-10)

Jesus is your Ultimate Solution regarding everything!

Application:

?You invited Divine Repercussions thru An Aberrant SOLUTION?

?Your Wickedness invited God’s Repercussion?

CONCLUSION:

Visualization:

You may be holding onto a ‘solution’ that is no SOLUTION at all.

You need the wisdom that is from God

And you need the fortitude to follow God’s SOLUTION regardless of your fear of what you perceive as ‘unknown.’ You must trust God with what is unknown to you, but what He knows full well!
