Your HAPPINESS Is The Lord’s(:5a)

Explanation:(:5a)

:5—“Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

“Happiness” is found in one’s progeny...In one’s fruitfulness from the Lord(:3).

A large family is a blessing from the Lord, albeit a challenge on the part of the parents. It is always a challenge to see to the physical & spiritual needs of one’s children. Such commitment on the part of parents, requires attentiveness to each child’s individual needs...And each child is very different from & among their siblings!

“Happy/Blessed”—rva eh’-sher—Noun Masc.—1) Happiness, blessedness—1a) Often used as interjection, 1b) Blessed are. Strong—Happiness; only in masculine plural construction as interjection, how happy!

“Man”(See :4—Adj.--rwbg ghib-bowr' OR (shortened)--rbg ghib-bore’)—rbg geh’-ber—Noun Masc.—1) Man, strong man, warrior(emphasizing strength or ability to fight). Strong—properly--A valiant man or warrior; generally--A person simply.

Argumentation:

Prov. 27:11—“My son, be wise, & make my heart glad, That I may answer him who reproaches me.”

Ps. 18:46-49—“The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name.”

Deut. 33:29—“Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, The shield of your help And the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you, And you shall tread down their high places.”

1Kgs. 10:1-9—“Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions. She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, & precious stones; & when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for the king that he could not explain it to her. And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters & their apparel, his cupbearers, & his entryway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her. Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words & your wisdom. However I did not believe the words until I came & saw with my own eyes; & indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom & prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard. Happy are your men & happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you & hear your wisdom! Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the LORD has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice & righteousness.””

Job 5:17-18—[Eliphaz to Job]—“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole.”

Children are great teachers of their parents! They often make us painfully aware of our own spiritual faults.

Ps. 68:3-6—“But let the righteous be glad; Let them rejoice before God; Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly. Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds, By His name YAH, And rejoice before Him. A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation. God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”

Ps. 144:15b—“...Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!”

Prov. 29:18—“Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.”

Prov. 9:10—“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”...

...Prov. 3:13-18—“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches & honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.”

Mat. 5:2-12—“Then He opened His mouth & taught them, saying: “Blessed[happy] are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile & persecute you, & say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice & be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Rom. 14:22—“Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.”

Rev. 16:15—“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, & keeps his garments, lest he walk naked & they see his shame.”

Mat. 11:2-6—“And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples & said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Jesus answered & said to them, “Go & tell John the things which you hear & see: The blind see & the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed & the deaf hear; the dead are raised up & the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”

Jn. 15:1-11—“I am the true vine, & My Father is the vinedresser. “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; & every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, & I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, & I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch & is withered; & they gather them & throw them into the fire, & they are burned. If you abide in Me, & My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, & it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments & abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, & that your joy may be full.

Tommy L’s grandson, Christian/Tommy is always doting on the young med-school student/Tommy was telling me about how many books Christian had read over his 1-week summer break, but especially that he had read the entire New Testament during that same time!/HAPPINESS!

Suppose a patient is having open heart surgery/Imagine your fear knowing that the surgeons merely whisked one patient out & you were wheeled in immediately without the sterilization process being completed!/But...the hospital policy is built around extensive sterilization techniques-- rooms, sheets, instruments, hands, hats, masks, gloves, etc./You are indeed ‘Happy’ knowing that everything has been properly sterilized/HAPPINESS

Your INTERACTION Is The Lord’s(:5b-c)

Explanation:(:5b-c)Respect/Speaking/Sharing/Confidence

:5—“Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

“They”—?the children?...Most probably the father & children & thus the entire family!

“Shame”(guilt from knowing you’ve done wrong) shall not be the lot of the father whose children are his life’s legacy/heritage. He will pour all he is in the LORD into that legacy.

The city gate is the place of judicial decision, as it was the location of all traffic both domestic & foreign. It was the place of orderly, civil interchange/confrontation with one’s friends & “enemies.”

Godly boldness before one’s enemies invites respect & discussion rather than open waging of war. In fact, it suppresses war.

Respect before one’s enemies is the result of faithful shamelessness—AKA--unabashed commitment to the Lord. It is a recognition of God’s power on the part of both sides...1)power to stifle the enemy. & 2)from the enemy standpoint, to see God’s working with God’s perfect power in you!

“Thereby, no godly father shall suffer for want of advocacy before his enemies in times of accusation & crisis. Their number & stance together as a family, for ‘just cause’, will not be undone. Who will hear a parent spoken against?”—Spurgeon--‘The Treasury Of David’

This all assumes that the parents(particularly the head/father) have brought a godly influence/example to the home.

“Ashamed”—vwb boowsh—Qal Imperfect—1) To put to shame, be ashamed, be disconcerted, be disappointed—1a) (Qal)--1a1) To feel shame, 1a2) To be ashamed, disconcerted, disappointed(by reason of). Strong—a primitive root; properly--To pale, i.e. by implication--To be ashamed; also by implication--To be disappointed or delayed.

“Speak”—rbd daw-bar'—Piel(intensive/intentional/repeated/extended) Imperfect—1) To speak, declare, converse, command, promise, warn, threaten, sing—1a) (Qal) To speak; 1c) (Piel)—1c1) To speak, 1c2) To promise. Strong—a primitive root; perhaps properly--To arrange; but used figuratively(of words)--To speak; rarely(in a destructive sense)--To subdue.

“Enemies”—bya ‘o-yeb' OR (fully)--bywa ‘ow-yeb—Substantive Qal Participle Active—1) (Qal) Enemy—1a) Personal, 1b) National. Strong—active participle of bya aw-yab'[to hate or be hostile]; Hating; An adversary.

“Gate”—rev shah’-ar—Noun Masc.—1) Gate—1a) Gate(of entrance), 1b) Gate(of space inside gate, i.e. marketplace, public meeting place)—1b1) City, town, 1c) Gate(of palace, royal castle, temple, court of tabernacle), 1d) Heaven. Strong—from rev[to split or open] in its original sense--An opening, i.e. Door or gate.

Argumentation:

Joel 2:18-29—“Then the LORD will be zealous for His land, And pity His people. The LORD will answer & say to His people, “Behold, I will send you grain & new wine & oil, And you will be satisfied by them; I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations. But I will remove far from you the northern army, And will drive him away into a barren & desolate land, With his face toward the eastern sea And his back toward the western sea; His stench will come up, And his foul odor will rise, Because he has done monstrous things.” Fear not, O land; Be glad & rejoice, For the LORD has done marvelous things! Do not be afraid, you beasts of the field; For the open pastures are springing up, And the tree bears its fruit; The fig tree & the vine yield their strength. Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the LORD your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you--The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine & oil. “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty & be satisfied, And praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; And My people shall never be put to shame. Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the LORD your God And there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame. And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons & your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants & on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”

Rom. 9:30-33—“What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith; but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone & rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”[Isa. 28:16; Isa. 45:17; Isa. 54:4; Joel 2:27]

1Pet. 2:1-6—“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, & all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God & precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.””

2Tim. 1:8-14—“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us & called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose & grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death & brought life & immortality to light through the gospel, to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, & a teacher of the Gentiles. For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed & am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith & love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”
