Summary: This is the 38th sermon in the series "3:16- Numbers That Bring Hope".

Series: 3:16- Numbers That Bring Hope [#38]

THE HOPE THAT COMES FROM GOD’S WORD

2 Timothy 3:16

Introduction:

This week on Wednesday, I talked with our Youth about the Bible. It concerns me greatly that our Youth are not familiar with the Bible. They struggle greatly finding the text on Wednesdays. In fact, they do not even know which Books of the Bible are in the Old Testament and which Books of the Bible are in the New Testament. Before each of you start thinking bad things about the Youth, I must tell you that most adults do not know much about the Bible either.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

All Scripture is…

1. God breathed.

The Bible is inspired by God. The Holy Spirit of God inspired each of the writers of the Bible. God breathed life into the Bible. The Bible is a living book that meets us right where we are.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIRV)

“God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing.”

All Scripture is…

2. Useful.

Scripture is useful for…

? Teaching the truth.

? Correcting your mistakes.

? Making your life whole again.

? Training you to do what is right.

2 Timothy 3:17 (ERV)

“Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.”

All Scripture is…

3. For preparing the children of God to do good work.

I want you to notice that the Easy to Read Version of the Bible says, “To do every good work”. This is a reminder to each of us that the application of Scripture to our lives is extremely important. In James, we are told that not applying the Bible in our lives is like looking into a mirror and not fixing what is wrong.

Conclusion:

This is one of those sermons that is easy to say and very difficult to live. God’s Word has many uses in our lives; but only if we allow it to work.
