I recently read a quote by Winston Churchill which says:
“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stone at every dog that barks.”
“Dogs that barks” could mean:
* People saying stuff about you
* Distraction of any sort
* People discouraging you
* People calling you names or labelling you
* People’s opinion about you as a person
* people’s opinion about your work, family, business, look, ministry etc
This quote may not really have a spiritual inclination but I believe these are the kind of things we will normally battle with in our heart as Christians.
There are lots of stuff going on around the world and around us that can easily distract us from fixing our eyes upon the lord. So many people have missed their route and the purpose of God for their life just because of distraction and stopping when they shouldn’t have.
Matthew 14:28-31 say:
Lord, if it’s you, Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water. Come, he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me! Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
This verse told us that peter was distracted by the wind and he was afraid.
Have you been tossed up and about by the wind of this world? Why are you afraid when Jesus is telling you to keep moving? why are you afraid when Jesus is in your boat. Why doubting Gods faithfulness upon your life?
Don't stop Because of what someone said to you.
Maybe they’ve called you bad- luck, remember Jabez in (1 Chronicles 4:9) , even though this gentleman was called sorrow by his own mother , he prayed to God for a change and his sorrow was changed to joy. The same happen to Hannah, a woman who was taunted by her husband’s second wife for not having children. She prayed and God made her a mother. (1 Samuel 1:6-7)
Have they told you that you cannot make it? Some young people have been discouraged by some funny teachers that they cannot be a doctor, a lawyer, or any professional person in life and they have been advised by these teachers to go and learn a handwork or do something else because they are not academic. If this is you, don’t stop there! follow your dream. I’ve heard the story of a human right lawyer who had third class degree in the university. This man became one of the most intelligent human right lawyer in his country. You need to Pursue your dream, don’t stop there. The bible says in (James 1:5 ) “If any man lack wisdom let him ask”
Don’t stop because of fear of the unknown: When some people are about to embark on a journey, it could be a business, ministry, career, academy, marriage etc, just because of fear of not knowing whether they will fail or succeed or fear of seeing others failed in that area , they will decide to stop and give up. It could be that these people are at the edge of their breakthrough and they are actually following the purpose of God for their life but the enemy will inflict fear that they cannot make it and they will end the journey there .
Don’t stop because of weariness: Some people want to stop because they have tried this and tried that and it never worked. Some have prayed and fasted for days and months and there is still no solution to their problem .Don’t stop there , God is in the process of making things work out for you , you just need to be patient and keep the fire on.
Don’t stop because of distraction: some of us want to stop and see what our neighbour is doing ,we want to stop and gossip a little about things that doesn’t concern us. The bible says in psalm 34:13…. Psalm 141:3. Proverbs 13:3 that we need to guard our lips….. we need to be more focused on the things of God and the things that will move our life forward.
Beloved we need to keep moving, do not let anything stop you from reaching your goal. Even amidst adversity keep moving, when the going gets tough keep moving. The only time you can stop moving is when you are dead. The bible says in Gen 19:17 & 26
17 As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!” 26 But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
To keep moving we need to possess the following :
* Violent Faith and obedience
* Commitment and Dedication
* Heart of praise and worship
* Life full of Focus and vision
* Prayer and fasting life
* Life free from distraction
Stopping at some point unnecessarily could be detrimental to our life and it could prevent us from reaching our destination in life. Don’t be like lot’s wife, don’t stop there!
You cannot afford to stop there now because your miracle is around.
Please give your life to Jesus if you haven’t yet done so before by confessing your sins to God saying this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I confess my sins to you today, forgive of my sins and give me the power to sin no more in Jesus name . Amen
