Summary: For Caleb, this is the day that the Lord has made for him... The fulfillment of His lifelong dream of receiving the faithfulness of God to him eversince that time when he and Joshua had insisted that their nation can possess the land of the giants...

Joshua14:6- The Land Given to Caleb:

A delegation from the tribe of Judah, led by Caleb, came to Joshua in Gilgal. “Remember what the Lord said to Moses about you and me when we were at Kadesh-barnea?” Caleb asked Joshua.

7- “I was forty years old at the time, and Moses had sent us from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land of Canaan. I reported what I felt was the truth,

8- but our brothers who went with us frightened the people and discouraged them from entering the Promised Land.

But since I had followed the Lord my God,

9- Moses told me, ‘The section of Canaan you were just in shall belong to you and your descendants forever.’

10- Now, as you see, from that time until now the Lord has kept me alive and well for all these forty-five years since crisscrossing the wilderness, and today I am eighty-five years old.

11- I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent us on that journey,

and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then!

12- So I’m asking that you give me the hill country that the Lord promised me. You will remember that as spies we found the Anakim living there in great, walled cities, but if the Lord is with me, I shall drive them out of the land.”

13-14 So Joshua blessed him and gave him Hebron as a permanent inheritance because he had followed the Lord God of Israel.

15- Before that time Hebron had been called Kiriath-arba, after a great hero of the Anakim.) And there was no resistance from the local populations as the Israelis resettled the land.

Joshua 14:6-13,15 -TLB

It’s now 40years since this day...

For Caleb, this is the day that the Lord has made for him...

The fulfillment of His lifelong dream of receiving the faithfulness of God to him eversince that time when he and Joshua had insisted that their nation can possess the land of the giants...

This is that day when minority vote is the winner!

With Joshua and Caleb, a two vote of yes with God would mean that fulfillment of their confidence with God.

This is the case of the minority winning over the majority!

Thus, their reward is Conquering their blessings as promised by our faithful God. This is it! The land flowing with milk and honey promised to their ancestor Abraham,Isaac and Jacob... now belongs to them!

I- ALWAYS REMEMBER GOD’S PROMISES

v.6 Remember what the Lord said to Moses

about you and me when we were at Kadesh-barnea?”

Caleb was blessed for his faithfulness,

being the only one of the 12 spies other than Joshua

who had shown the right spirit (Num13:30-33).

He was rewarded for his long service of 45more years in Israel (Josh.14:6-15).

b [Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses] Caleb no doubt referred to what is said in Num. 14:24 and repeated in Dt. 1:36 and here in Josh. 14:9.

*As you always remember the promises of God,

you would be blessed by your faithfulness.

*As you always remember the promises of God,

You would be rewarded for your long service.

*As you always remember the promises of God,

you would remain strong, able to fight against enemies v.11

II- ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE PRESERVE BY GOD

v.10- Now, as you see, from that time until now

the Lord has kept me alive and well for all these 45years since crisscrossing the wilderness, and today I am 85years old.

v.10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive,

as He said, these 45years since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while the Israelites wandered in the wilderness;

and now, behold, I am this day 85years old.

a [as He said ...]

God always keeps His word with men.

It would have been impossible for Caleb to die in the past 45years,

by warfare or otherwise, since God had given him His word that he would live to inherit the place where he went as a spy (Josh14:9-10;Num. 14:24).

God has preserved many men in times past

because He gave His word, and He is yet to do this in the future, especially with the two witnesses who cannot die until they have finished their testimony (Rev. 11:3-11).

b [I am this day fourscore and five years old]

This request was made on his birthday,

and the granting of it was surely an outstanding present (Josh14:10,13-15; cp. Dt. 31:2; 34:7) from: Dake’s AnnotatedBible

III- ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL ENJOY GOD’S BLESSINGS:

Joshua 14:11-13

11- Yet I am as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so is my strength now for war and to go out and to come in.

12- So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke that day. For you heard then how the [giantlike] Anakim were there and that the cities were great and fortified; if the Lord will be with me, I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.

13- Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

a [I am as strong this day as I was

in the day that Moses sent me]

This was not the idle boast of an old man who hates to see his strength fading away. It was truth, for afterward he expelled three great giants from his inheritance (Judg. 1:20). No doubt Caleb lived to enjoy his possession many years. If he remained about as long as Joshua who was near the same age, he enjoyed it no less than 125-130years.(Josh24:29)

b [give me this mountain]

This was Caleb's specific request.

It was the same mountain upon which the spies had reported seeing many giants--the Anakims who caused Israel to fear and rebel at Kadesh-barnea. Caleb's wish proved that it was in his heart to follow the Lord wholly (Josh. 14:7-9), and that he had strength and will to fight at 85 (Josh. 14:10-11).

It also showed all Israel and others in every generation that a true Israelite could be master of the situation and glorify God in the very thing that had caused the nation's defeat (Num. 13:30-33; 14:7-10).

It was only fitting that the man who had reported to Israel that they were well able to overcome the giants should be the one to demonstrate this in his own inheritance (Num. 13:30-33)
