Attention:

When I was a young-un my Dad ‘had me’ join the local little-league team.

It wasn’t a ‘knock-down drag-out fight to get me on the team, but I do remember being apprehensive!

I was really a lousy player & usually did not make contact with the ball.

But I can remember only one good hit that I got. I hammered a pop fly way out to center field, & right into the glove of the center-fielder! I felt like I had made a home run!

By the time I had gotten between first & second base, I found out the ball had been caught!

I was in the same funk as if I had struck out!

I did not enjoy Little League. For me it was a testimony to my ineptness & lack of self-esteem which dogged me at that age.

By the time the season was over I asked Daddy if it would be okay if I didn’t sign-up for next season.

My salvation was realized! And I never regretted it!

Safe passage was realized/experienced/fulfilled for all on the ark.

All on the ark escaped/were saved from the Flood’s destruction.

Salvation was realized by those favored by God.

How/When is salvation by God accomplished/realized?

3 ways salvation by God is realized.

1—Salvation is realized when & how...

God DETERMINES(:1-5)

Explanation:(:1-5)

:1—“Then God remembered Noah, & every living thing, & all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, & the waters subsided.”

“Then God remembered Noah, & every living thing, & all the animals that were with him in the ark.”

Had God forgotten about Noah? No. However from man’s perspective there had been no (logged)communication from/with God since He had ushered them onto the ark & closed the door, until the time God first acted to remove the water.

God does not ‘forget’ like you & I do...

Example: Just this past week, I was having a conversation with Mary L. in the back hallway. I was replying to her statement & completely forgot the point of the conversation, & thus the point I was driving at. I looked to the ground & my speech sort of faded off because I forgot where I was going. I finally admitted I had lost my train of thought. Mary interjected just a word about the topic & that triggered my remembrance. Then I immediately realized my point & made it...God NEVER has that problem!!

God not only “remembered” Noah but He was also concerned for “every living thing” that was “with” Noah on the ark. God’s concern for all in the ark was aroused because the time(which He had set) for the event’s fulfillment had arrived.

Upon God’s taking new notice of those on the ark, He now causes “a wind” to blow “over the earth.” God caused this “wind” & used this “wind” to be instrumental in causing the waters to “subside.” This no doubt echoes the work of the Spirit of God in Gen. 1:2!

God is Master of all His creation...

Mk. 4:36-41—“Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, & the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him & said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose & rebuked the wind, & said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased & there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, & said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind & the sea obey Him!””

On another occasion...

Mat. 14:22-33—“Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat & go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him & said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; & beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand & caught him, & said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came & worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

*This is rather descriptive of man’s separation from God as well as a way of describing our helplessness apart from Him. We may be unaware of God’s determinations & we may be anxious about our situation, but God is always aware of our need as well as His need to fulfill His design & plan.

As a result of the Cross of Christ, He has given His people the permanently indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit. It is always possible to hear from God...& if all He speaks to us is that He is in control then we are meant to draw comfort from His being in control!

God is on His perfect schedule responding in His perfect time with His perfect care.

Upon God’s restraining the water sources & bringing the wind, the waters then began to recede.

After 150 days(5 months—‘lunar’) of covering the earth(7:24), the water began to recede. It would take “the waters” longer(~7 months) to completely recede(8:13-14) than it did to initially cover the earth.

Argumentation:

Most assume that their ‘salvation’ is built on a feeling they have about themselves & that they themselves determine. But they neither realize the damning nature of their sin nor their need for salvation from it.

Gal. 4:1-7—“Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians & stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, & if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

Rom. 9:19-24—“You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor & another for dishonor? What if God, wanting to show His wrath & to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, & that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”

Rom. 11:1-7—“I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, “LORD, they have killed Your prophets & torn down Your altars, & I alone am left, & they seek my life”? But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, & the rest were blinded.”

Eph. 2:4-10—“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), & raised us up together, & made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, & that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

So then the question we must all ask is ...“Is my “salvation” Determined by God? or is there something or someone else that I depend upon for it?”

Do I trust the belief of secular science...that everything around me, I & my path in life are all determined by randomness, chance & self-determination?

Or do I trust that my life is the product of God’s foreknowledge, design & determination?

Job 42:1-6 “Then Job answered the LORD & said: “I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Listen, please, & let me speak; You said, ‘I will question you, & you shall answer Me.’ “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust & ashes.””

2Thes. 2:16-17—“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, & our God & Father, who has loved us & given us everlasting consolation & good hope by grace, comfort your hearts & establish you in every good word & work.”

Heb. 13:8-10—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, & forever. Do not be carried about with various & strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.”

Eph. 1:3-14—“Blessed be the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy & without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom & prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven & which are on earth--in Him. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”

If my salvation & my life on this earth are determined by God, then I will hold to His written word. I will believe it no matter how distant-incongruous-inharmonious-far removed it is from the world’s many systems of so-called ‘salvation.’

Heb. 3:13-15—“but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.””

ADMIT:

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will admit that I am a sinner against God...because God says that I am(Rom. 3:23).

Rom. 3:23—“or all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God”

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will admit that I cannot save myself.(Eph. 2:9)

Eph. 2:9—[Your salvation is...]“not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will admit that I deserve to go the hell.(Rom. 6:23)

Rom. 6:23—“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

BELIEVE:

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will believe that Jesus is the Divine & only Son of God who took my place as the Sacrifice for my sin.(Rom. 4:25)

Rom. 4:2—“who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.”

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will personally Receive Him as my as My Savior.(Jn. 1:12)

Jn. 1:12—“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will Trust & Call on Him alone to save me.(Rom. 10:13; Rom. 3:24)

Rom. 10:13—“For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.””

Rom. 3:24—“being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”

CONFESS:

If God is really the determiner of my deliverance, I will be unashamed to Confess Him as my personal Savior & thus He will be my Lord.(Rom. 10:9)

Rom. 10:9—”that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If God is really the determiner of deliverance from my offending sin nature, then I will have entered the ‘ark’ of God’s designation, that is Jesus Christ!

*In Rowan County, N.C. where I grew up, every summer my family would go to Whitaker’s Peach Orchard/Mom & Dad always chose to ‘pick & pay’ rather than buy them already picked/When it was nearing peach season we would excitedly read the paper(before the days of mobile phones!) looking for the Whitaker’s ad declaring when peach season would begin/GOD DETERMINES

In order to produce fruit, peach trees need pollination, & bees pollinate/So the ‘Whitaker’ family gleaned some knowledge of beekeeping probably thru the County Extension Service & purchased bees/‘Whitaker’s’ maintained a good population of bees in their orchard so their crop will be certain!/However, during public peach selling season, the bee hives were transported elsewhere in order to accommodate the customers in the field/GOD DETERMINES
