Summary: Focusing on Fathers Day

Scripture: Romans 8:14-17

Romans 8:13-17 (NASB)

13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

Prayer: Always Pray Before You Begin Preaching

Title: That’s My Daddy/ Father

Introduction:

My brothers and sisters in Christ when I was growing as a child my real father was not receptive of the news that my mom was pregnant with his first and only son. While still in my mother’s womb my father made the decision to leave my mother for selfish and personal reasons. But because God had a plan for my life and He knew what I was going to become and the work I was going to do for Him

as a Christian man of God preaching and teaching His Word and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ He place men around me to help develop and shape me to the man that I am today!!!! It feels good as a child of God to know the scriptures and apply them to your life base off the promises of those in the Bible.

Jeremiah 1:5 (NASB) (God speaks to Jeremiah)

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."

Psalm 139:13 (NASB) (David speaks these words to God)

13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.

Galatians 1:15-16 (NASB) (Paul says this in defending his ministry)

15 But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother's womb and called me through His grace, was pleased

16 to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood,

Church because of my father’s inadequacy, God would take other men out of their role to others and place them in my life. My uncles and my grandfathers as men where my great inspirations teaching many things. But God knew that I needed a Father figure one that would teach me the things of God and his name was Clyde Adams Jr!!! He taught me what it means to be provider for the family, a protector for the family, and also how to pray for the family!!!

Church if I can drop a side bar in here, every men that has a child can be a Father but every man cannot be a dad!!!! A father can make a child but a dad takes care of the child!! Church there are many jobs in America! Like the President, Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians, Police but no job can compare to a man who wholes the title as Father and it especially makes a father feels good when they call him Daddy!!

Let me break this down!! If you where to ask my children who am I to them they would say that’s my father! But church when they call me they daddy or dad!! Can you help me out or dad can I whole a few bucks or dad I need some clothes or some shoes! Or dad I need something to eat!! Church what’s the difference? Father signifies the Title!! But Dad signifies the relationship!!!

Church a lot of kids cannot call a man dad because the man never had a relationship!! He just held the Title!!! Church being a father and a dad is not just part time but it takes full time commitment on top of the other daily tasks we do every day!! Church one who holds the title sits in the background and watch, but one who holds the relationship watches and then tell the kids the truth! A true man in spite of the decisions the child makes will tell his son and daughter what not to do! That’s why our society needs the father and the dad both in place to help our children!! Church there is a difference in the title and the relationship!! For example!! Jesus says this in Luke 2:49 (NKJV)

49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" showing Gods Title!!

In Matthew 6:9 when Jesus was teaching the disciples how to pray HE told the disciples this Matthew 6:9 (NKJV)

9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Showing Gods Title!!

Jesus when He is praying in John 17:5 says these words!!! John 17:5 (NKJV)

5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. Again showing Gods Title!!

But when things get tough for Jesus he switches from the Title to the relationship because in the flesh He needs His Father more than anything!!! So He says in Mark 14:35-36 (NKJV)

35 He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.

36 And He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will." Showing RELATIONSHIP!!

John 1:12-13 (KJV) The apostle John lets us know since we are children we can call on His name

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. SHOWING RELATIONSHIP!!

Galatians 4:6 (KJV) The Apostle Paul lets us know that since we are children of God we can call Him Daddy!!

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Showing RELATIONSHIP!!!

Church The Bible makes it clear that the ideal pattern for every home and family is built on a godly Father. The father is the dominant figure in the family, and his role is vital. This lets us know that no matter how hard a women try to replace the Father, a child stills need a father in their life. The Bible repeatedly implies that to be without a father is the greatest of afflictions for a family. Even God himself is moved to have compassion on the fatherless!! Hosea 14:3 (NKJV) For in You the fatherless finds mercy." Psalm 146:9 (NASB)

9 The LORD protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, But He thwarts the way of the wicked.

Church there is one thing that’s worse than a home without a father and that’s a home in which the father is there but fails to fulfill his role! Many fathers that’s in the house but are their too busy! Too careless! Or do not see or even understand what the requirements of a Dad really is! So if a Father is going to be a great dad he must do 3 things before I actually exegete the text!

1. He Must Be A Provider

1 Timothy 5:8 (NASB)

8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

*The true father does not always give what the family wants but he can always provide what the family needs!! His main function is to also provide the spiritual needs of the house! Discipline, food, clothes, love! Not money!!!!!!!!! A child does not need the things you can buy them as much as they need you!

2. He must Protect The Family!!

The father has the same role over his family that God has over His people. God protects and nurtures His children, and every father has that same responsibility!! Fathers provide physical protection (from worldly things and people) and Spiritual protection (from the devil) teach them about the spiritual armor!! If satan can get a foothold in your life, he will get a foothold in your family. James 4:6-7 (NASB)

7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

3. He Must BE A Prayer Warrior!!

Every Father should have the duty or task of praying for their family!!

In Job 1:5 it scripture explains how Job made a habit to pray for each of his children!! Church one of the greatest sins you can commit against your children is when you don’t pray for them! If you can punish them when they do wrong! Praise them when they do right! You better learn how to pray for them when they do right and wrong!!

Text:

Church in this particular text the apostle Paul wants us to know how God is our Father but he also wants us to know that HE now is our Daddy base of the finished work of Jesus Christ. Because of what Jesus Christ has done God has now place His Spirit in those who believe and this assures us that we are no longer children of the devil but we are sons and daughters of the true and living God!! What The Apostle Paul in this particular text wants us to truly understand is that because of Christ we can go from the Title referring only to God as Father, to an intimate Relationship calling Him Daddy!!

Church because of the indwelling presence of The Holy Spirit there is a spiritual antenna or signals that goes off warning us of potential situations, dangerous scenic areas, and senseless people who mean us no good at all! And it’s because you are now a son that you know now who to call on!!! Church is there anyone in the church who knows that when you get in a real bind you betta not call on people but you better call on God! You’re Father! You’re Daddy! People will fail you but God got your back!

Psalm 145:18 (NASB)

18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

Psalm 55:16 (NASB)

16 As for me, I shall call upon God, And the LORD will save me.

Psalm 86:7 (NASB)

7 In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You will answer me.

Again church in the text the apostle Paul reminds us that we have not received a spirit of slavery which leads to fear again!! Church you don’t have to be afraid! So that Spirit that’s telling you what you can’t do tell that lying spirit what you can do!! You’re Daddy, who is God the Father, now that you have a relationship with Him you don’t have to be afraid! 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (That’s My Daddy!!!)

Now church this where its get deep!!Paul writes in v.15 that we have received the Spirit of adoption!! Church this here is a legal transaction assuring us that we are the children of God!! Giving the believer total confidence that we are permanent in the Lord and cannot be removed from the protection of God because our daddy has given us His Holy Spirit!! Church when Jesus Christ died on the Cross he paid the ultimate price so we can have access to God!!! Jesus brought us from the slave market of sin and made us children of God! This means that when God adopted us from the devil, purchase our sin debt it took a lot of love, grace, compassion and spiritual intimacy through His Son Jesus And God is not going give us back to the devil so He gives us the Spirit of adoption!! Church in this particular text the word adoption means an action taken by a husband or wife in which they decide to take a boy or girl who is not their own offspring into their family as their own child. When this action is taken the adopted child attains all the rights and privileges of a member of the family! Church This is so deep!! (In otherwords you get the same benefits Christ Received on earth!!!)

This adoption is the greatest picture or example of how God in His Grace seeked us out by His divine choice and made us His Children on the simple fact they we trusted in His Son Jesus Christ!

Because of their adoption, believers will share the full inheritance of the Son. To all Christians God declares, "'I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,' says the Lord Almighty" (2 Cor. 6:17-18).

Church I will never say a child don’t need a dad! But what I will say until the physical dad steps to the plate I have a god who is the best dad a child can have and on top of that He gave me all the benefits!!

(THAT’S MY DADDY!!!)

Now church this is the part I love the most!! Because we are now part of the family we have full rights and privileges to cry out ABBA!!!When Paul uses the word cry out in this particular verse he means we as Gods children can make intimate petitions and give praises to our Father!!

“Abba” is a Greek and English transliteration of the Aramaic word for father.

“Abba” means “papa”—a term of endearment.

Abba is an Aramaic word which suffers in translation. It is an intimate form of the word father—such as “papa” or “daddy.”

Abba is an informal Aramaic term for Father, connoting intimacy tenderness, dependence, and complete lack of fear or anxiety.

Church I truly don’t believe that you can fully comprehend that the greatest event that could ever happen to the believers is that we can now call God our Father!! Our Daddy! Because of Jesus Christ! His Death, Burial and Resurrection we now have fellowship and communion with God assuring our salvation and guaranteeing us Eternal life! Because we have been adopted it brings the greatest privileges that money can’t buy!!

It’s because of my daddy that He provided a way through His Son that we have been cleansed from sin!

It’s because of my daddy that we have been saved from the penalty of sin

It’s because of my daddy that we have been born again

It’s because of my daddy that we have been justified, sanctified, and ultimately glorified!!

And if someone ever asks the question,

Who is Omnipotent? That’s my Daddy!!

Who is Omnipresent? That’s my Daddy!

Who is Omniscience, Holy, Sovereign, Eternal, Infinite and Creator? And again the answer is God and That’s My Daddy!!
