Summary: There is a difference between dark and light. Fellowship should be with those on the same spiritual journey.

WHAT A GREAT DIFFERENCE

SCRIPTURE: II Corinthians 6:14 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: or what

fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

What a great difference.

B. Darkness is Manifested Throughout the World

1. The darkness looks like this in the world and the U.S.A.:

a. There are over 1 million abortions a year in the world.

c. 1 million women and children are forced into the sex trafficking industry.

attend church worship services on a Sunday morning.

men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 3:20

lest his deeds should be reproved. 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to

the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

d. Right has become wrong and wrong has become right.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put

and sweet for bitter!

C. Making decisions in the dark can lead to some regrettable consequences.

Back in the days before electricity, a tightfisted old farmer was taking his hired man to

task for carrying a lighted lantern when he went to call on his best girl. Why, he

exclaimed, when I went a-courtin I never carried one of them things, I always went in

the dark. Yes, the hired man said wryly, and look at what you got!

II Corinthians 4:4 In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which

believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of

God, should shine unto them. 4:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus

the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 4:6 For God, who

commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give

the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

D. Darkness is the absence of light.

II. WHAT IS LIGHT?

lives. This is why we crave it and desire it.

b. Suicides increase.

c. Domestic violence increases.

that God is light (5457), and in him is no darkness at all. 1:6 If we say that we

have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with

another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

IV. UNEQUALLY YOKED?

A. Unequally Yoked ? Defined

Stong’s 2086 heterozugeo {het-er-od-zoog-eh'-o} from a compound of 2087 and 2218;

TDNT - 2:901,301; v AV - be unequally yoked with 1; 1

1. A yoke is not easily broken. It is more or less a permanent union. Ex: Marriage 2. A yoke is constraining. It forces compliance. You must do what the other

one is doing.

V. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.

A. Your Father Is Light

I John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you,

that God is light (5457), and in him is no darkness at all

B. Jesus Is Light

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that

followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

John 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk

while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in

darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in

it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

C. Ye Are Light

Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

1. Light is to be the distinguishing factor between the followers of Christ and the world

of darkness. Light is the necessary ingredient we need to shine forth in this

world. Michael McCartney

2. In biblical times every home had its lamp burning all night. The lamp did not give

much light, but testified to the fact that the house was inhabited. These lamps,

small oil-filled bowls, were set high on pottery stands.

Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

I Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

I Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

CONCLUSION

What happens if we don’t shine? The headline news gets worse and worse.

The church is crippled by its lack of commitment today.

By it’s lack of giving of their time.

By it’s lack of giving of their finances.

They are losing their impact on a lost and dying world.

The churches ministry is becoming more and more worthless and meaningless because they are not rescuing anyone from the darkness.

Matthew 4:16 “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.”

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into

the world.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
