Summary: This message is to encourage the believer to live in truth

I. "THERE IS NOTHING COVERED THAT SHALL NOT BE REVEALED; AND HIS, THAT SHALL NOT BE KNOWN"

A. Experience - life itself - attest to the truth of the words of the Son of God:

1. Cain had slain Abel, his brother; his brother's blood made the crime of Cain known - Gen 4:20

2. Moses slew the Egyptian; thought that his sin would remain hidden; but the very man he thought to defend made the crime known - Ex 2:12-14

B. Our Lord emphasized the above truth on different occasions:

1. Mark 2:22

2. Luke 8:17; 12:2

C. The Saviour spoke these words to encourage the disciples to preach the gospel of the kingdom:

1. They faced stiff opposition from the clergy of their day

2. Rejection of their message by many would tend to discourage them

II. TRUTH WILL OUT

A. This fact is awe-inspiring:

1. "My word . . . shall not return void unto me" - Is 55:10-11

2. "My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure" - Is 46:10

3. "I will work, and who shall let it?" Is 43:13

B. This ought to embolden God's messengers not to become intimidated by the snare of the enemies:

1. Think of the apostles - Acts 4:18-19; 5:27-29

2. "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper" - Is 54:15-17

3. "I speak forth the words of truth" - Acts 26:25

C. Truth is irrepressible:

1. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away" - Matt 24:35

2. "It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one title of the law to fail" - Luke16:17

D. Thewordsofouropeningtextareheaven'sassurance:

1. Against failure in the ministry - I Cor 15:58

2. That truth will out, regardless of all opposition - Jer 23:29

III. THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE TO THE DIVINE PRINCIPLE OF OUR OPENING TEXT

A. What is within will come out:

1. The secret things of the heart will make their presence felt

2. We often imagine or speak of the past that it is dead; but there is an old adage which

says, "Done, but not done with"

3. "What a man soweth that shall he also reap" - Gal 6:6-8

4. A nail driven into the wood will leave its mark

5. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" - Matt 12:34; Luke 6:45

B. It is just as true that a Christ like spirit will come out:

1. What is in us of His nature will come out; "The light shineth in darkness, and the

darkness could not smother it" - John 1:5 - Phillips Brooks

2. There are times when one feels that our witness for the truth is so ineffective, yet

truth will come out - sow the seed, and God will give the harvest

C. Truth will come out:

1. This ought to cause us sober reflection in all we do - either in secret or otherwise

2. It must cause us to think twice before we act

3. One may be able to cover up a deed for years, yet truth will out – all things are naked

before the all-seeing eyes of God - Ps 139:1-11

4. Truth is a two edged sword; works both ways - Heb 4:12

D. It is wonderful to be on the side of truth:

1. It cannot be defeated, no matter what the weapons against it may be

2. Jesus Christ is the embodiment of truth, that is the secret of the power of truth - John 14:6
