Please open your Bibles to Exodus 34 as we continue to worship our Lord by listening to what He told Moses to write down for all people to learn from, including us today!
Again, the Book of Exodus is about the Israelites of old learning from God as they lived their lives away from slavery in secular Egypt and headed to an abundant land filled with milk and honey! We Christians today are just like the Israelites of old as we live our lives trying to part with the secular world, learning from God, and headed for more than abundant heaven!
Read along with me now Exodus 34:27-35…..
v27: God told Moses to write down Scriptures (God’s Own Words)!
Look again at v28… what’s significant about what happened??
v28: Moses was with God for 40 days and nights and his body didn’t need food or water!
Now, how do you think Moses should have looked like after 40 days and 40 nights not drinking or eating anything?? A human body can last 40 days without food (Mahatma Gandhi did not eat anything for 21 days and survived). But how long can a human body live without water?? – only 7 days!
Moses should have been dead after 7 days without drinking anything!
But what do we note in v29? – Moses walked down a mountain carrying 2 stone tablets and his face was radiant! What can we note from this? God took care of Moses, both physically and spiritually, for 40 days and nights!
v30: Aaron and all Israelites were afraid of Moses because….. why?? Moses was radiating and scared everyone! Wouldn’t you be scared too if someone glowing like a lightbulb approached you?
v31-32: Moses comforted the people and told them about God’s commands.
I think v33 is interesting… in v29 we note that Moses was not aware that his face was radiating; there could be many reasons, but why do you think Moses finally covered his face with a veil AFTER talking to the Israelites??
I think the main reason why Moses finally placed a veil over his glowing face is Zipporah, his wife, couldn’t sleep with a light on!! 😊
Seriously though, I think the simple answer for v33: is God made sure the people realized His presence on Moses!!
v34-35: supports the note from v33!
What are the Biblical Truths from this passage??
1. Scriptures are written by people as spoken and requested by God!
2. God can take care of people both spiritually and physically! why shouldn’t this surprise us??
God is Creator of everything!
I think this 3rd truth is very significant for us to note:
