OR: God’s Remedy For Sin

Attention:

Beware of Curare:

In 1799 the famous Prussian explorer and scientist Baron Von Humboldt discovered a potent drug called curare.

On an expedition into the jungles of Venezuela, he watched an Indian hunter bring down a large animal with a single shot from his bow and arrow. The arrow had been poisoned with curare, a potion with two curious properties, derived from the jungle plants.

Curare injected into the bloodstream, as it was when hunting animals, was deadly. It immobilized the body, attacked the vital organs, and caused death almost instantaneously.

Humboldt discovered the second property of curare in a more dramatic fashion. He became sick, and a native witch doctor forced Humboldt to drink some curare that had been diluted with water. Terrified that he was going to die, Humboldt was surprised to find that after drinking the curare, he felt significantly better. Curare, when it was diluted and taken orally, he discovered, could have a positive medicinal value without causing any damage to vital organs.

The key to curare’s result lies principally in the way it enters the human body. Injected into the bloodstream, it’s a deadly killer. Ingested orally, it’s a soothing muscle relaxant.

Curare is a curative poison.

It is a ‘seeming’ paradox that the cure for sin resides in One who was executed as a criminal, but Who’s death was actually the sacrificial payment for every man’s sin.

Need:

~700 years prior to the Cross of Christ Jesus, Isaiah prophesied of the substitutionary atonement which would one day come thru God’s Servant. Isaiah records details of the coming Servant’s willing sacrifice for the sake of all sinners.

The prophet Isaiah declared a future time when God’s unique Servant would provide the remedy for sin.

Jesus is God’s remedy for sin.

Why/How/When is Jesus God’s remedy for sin?

We receive certain truths when we receive Jesus as God’s remedy for personal sin.

‘RECEIVE’—More than mental acceptance, which only makes possibilities plausible. ‘Receiving’ has to do with acceptance by the heart, so that what is received, is taken to the point of actual reliance upon what or Who is received.

WILLING ENSLAVEMENT(52:13a)

Explanation:(52:13a)Service

52:13—“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted & extolled & be very high.”

“Behold, My Servant”

“Behold”–calls special attention to this One who is the promised “Servant” of God.

“My Servant” is God’s Servant who is himself also God in human flesh.

Jesus Christ would be, & has been, & is, & will remain, the “Servant” of God. Because God’s Servant is Himself God(the Son)—as are the Father & the Holy Spirit—He perfectly ‘serves’ His Father’s Kingdom, because God’s kingdom is likewise His Kingdom as well!

Jesus ‘enslaved’ Himself to meet your greatest need!

Jesus ‘enslaved’ Himself to your deepest need in order for you to meet God’s desire—to save your soul ‘from’ an eternity in hell ‘to’ an eternity in heaven.

Jesus, God’s Servant, committed Himself to your need in order to remove the penalty that your personal lifetime of sinfulness secures, & thus ‘from’ a lifetime of ‘dead/empty/vain’ works!

“Behold/See”—hnh hin-nay’—Demonstrative Particle—1) Behold, lo, see, if. Strong—prolongation for Nh; Lo! Used 17X.

“Servant”—dbe eh'-bed—1) Slave, servant—1a) Slave, servant, man-servant, 1b) Subjects, 1c) Servants, worshippers(of God), 1d) Servant(in special sense as prophets, Levites etc), 1e) Servant(of Israel), 1f) Servant(as form of address between equals). Strong—from dbe aw-bad’;[ a primitive root; To work(in any sense); by implication--To serve, till, causatively--Enslave, etc.]; A servant.

Argumentation:

Isa. 11:1-5—“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom & understanding, The Spirit of counsel & might, The Spirit of knowledge & of the fear of the LORD. His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”

Isa. 42:1-4—“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”

Isa. 49:5-7—“And now the LORD says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant[Lk. 1:35], To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, And My God shall be My strength), Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Thus says the LORD, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers: “Kings shall see & arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the LORD who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You.”

Mat. 3:11-12—John the Baptist—“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit & fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, & He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, & gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Mk. 1:7-8—“And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down & loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.””

Lk. 3:16—“John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit & fire.”

Jn. 4:34—“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, & to finish His work.”

Romans 1:1-2—“Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures.”

Titus 1:1—“Paul, a bondservant of God & an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect & the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,”

Js. 1:1—“James, a bondservant of God & of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.”

2Pet. 1:1—“Simon Peter, a bondservant & apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God & Savior Jesus Christ:”

Acts 2:16-18—“But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons & your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants & on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.”[Joel 2:28-29]

Gal. 4:4-7—“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, & if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

1Cor. 7:20-23—“Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called. Were you called while a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather use it. For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called while free is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.”

1Pet. 2:15-16—“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men-- as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.”

Jn. 15:16—“You did not choose Me, but I chose you & appointed you that you should go & bear fruit, & that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”

2Tim. 2:3-7—“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hard-working farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, & may the Lord give you understanding in all things.”

Such pictures describe the ‘slavery’ to & by which Christians ‘willingly’ relinquish or abandon themselves to God!

Illustration:

*My short stint as a flatbed ‘long-haul trucker’ for a well-established trucking company/I called it ‘legalized slavery’ because as a driver, you cannot go home at night/You have some freedom after you park for the night/No matter what, you are in the company’s truck, their bed, & at all times where the company wants you/You are at the mercy of the company!/Yes, I signed-up for the job, but soon discovered that my passion for it was lacking/Mine was not a WILLING ENSLAVEMENT
