PALM SUNDAY BEGINS THE WEEK OF JESUS’ 7TH ENTRY into Jerusalem. Jesus borrows a donkey

John 12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. 14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. 16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. 17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. 18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

IN MANY CHURCHES BLACK DRAPES THE ALTAR ON GOOD FRIDAY

THE DEATH

Luke 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. 47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. 48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned. 49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

SOME OF JESUS’ LAST WORDS:

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

MOTHER:

John 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

MANY FORMAL CHURCH HAVE A PASCHAL CANDLE BURNING TO REPRESRENT THE LIGHT IN DARK TIMES

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

THE EGG REPRESENTS NEW BIRTH, NEW LIFE, FERTILITY… COLORED EGGS ARE OFTEN CALLED RESURRECTION EGGS.

( Do not teach this as Bible but tradition) GREEK ORTHODOX has a traditional story that MARY MAGDALENE carried a basket to the grave site of Jesus’ tomb as she traveled that morning. The tradition suggest that MARY MAGDALINE cloth and other things to finish the traditional preparation of the body. Tradition says early that morning Mary had stopped and gathered the EGGS. They say she had burial stuff and eggs in her basket.

John 20:5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. 6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

John 20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

John 20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

John 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

THE GREEK ORTHODOX TRADITIONAL STORY GOES ON TO TEACH THAT MARY’S EGGS TURNED RED AT THE POWER OF THE PRESENCE OF THE RISEN SAVIOR the eggs turned blood red… red also symbolizes JOY. THE RED REPRESENTED THE BLOOD THAT JESUS SHED ON CALVAEY… So in celebration of Easter they dyed their eggs red…

THE HARD SHELL OF THE EGG REPRESTED THE TOMB…

THE CRACKING THE EGG SYMBOLIZED JESUS’ RESURRECTION.

EGG HUNTS POINT TO LOST THEN FOUND… EASTER EGGS ARE OFTEN CALLED PASCHAL EGGS, OR THAT THAT GIVES LIGHT IN DARK TIMES…

Through the years the eggs were color many color each color adding to the salvation story. So colored eggs became a symbol of GOD’S BLESSINGS and grace.

THE EASTER BUNNY IS OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH MARY THE MOTHER OF JESUS…. Easter eggs and Easter bunnies are not BIBLICAL…

HISTORY TEACHES SOME FACTS FROM 1500 YEARS AGO… IN NORTHERN EUROPE AND NORTH EAST RUSSIA WINTER IS VERY COLD, FREEZING AND DEATHLY COLD… MOST OF THE PEOPLE COULD NOT READ OR WRITE… THE TIMES WERE DARK AND GLOOMY…

IN LATE FALL WHEN THE DAYS GREW LONGER AND THE TIMES WERE DARKER AND THE WEATHER GREW COLDER THE CHICKENS AND DUCKS WOULD STOP LAYING EGGS. Not only was this less food to eat but the diet was reduced of a good source of protein. The people’s health would grew worse. ABOUT THE TIME OF PASSOVER IN SPRING THE BIRDS WOULD START LAYING EGGS AGAIN… They never understood the SPRING EQUINOX, THEY JUST KNEW ABOUT THE PASSOVER AND THE RESURRECTION was there. They were hungry and the associated the new eggs with hope of better. THE RUSSIANS CALLED THIS THE MIRACLE OF EGGS… THE EGGS BECOME A GIFT FROM GOD… new life, better life, less sickness, more FOOD, CHICKS, DUCKS, --- GOD PROVIDES, THE EGGS BECAME A SYMBOL OF DIVINE PROVISION…

CONCLUSION: EASTER WAS GOD’S PLAN TO RESTORE A FALLEN LOST HUMANITY.
