BY HIS STRIPES-II—Isaiah 52:13—53:1-12

OR: God’s Remedy For Sin

Attention:

A ‘savant’ is “a person affected with a developmental disorder(such as autism or intellectual disability) who exhibits exceptional skill or brilliance in some limited field (such as mathematics or music).”

Stephen Wiltshire is a ‘savant’ who at a young age was diagnosed with autism. He did not learn to speak until he was 9years old. He attended a school for special needs children, where he was encouraged to follow his passion—drawing. It was discovered that at an early age he began to draw highly detailed & accurate pictures of things he saw.

In 2009 he was given a 20 minute helicopter flight over Tokyo, Japan. After his flight, he completed a 33 foot long to scale, fully detailed, mural of the entire city!

It is a seeming paradox that a person who may be able to do what other people are totally incapable of, may have absolutely no ability to physically take care of themselves.

It is a ‘seeming’ paradox that the remedy for sin resides in One who was executed as a criminal, but Who’s death was actually the sacrificial payment for every man’s sin.

Need:

~700 years prior to the Cross of Christ Jesus, Isaiah prophesied of the substitutionary atonement which would one day come thru God’s Servant. Isaiah records details of the coming Servant’s willing sacrifice for the sake of all sinners.

The prophet Isaiah declared a future time when God’s unique Servant would provide the remedy for sin.

Jesus is God’s remedy for sin.

Why/How/When is Jesus God’s remedy for sin?

We receive certain truths when we receive Jesus as God’s remedy for personal sin.

‘RECEIVE’—More than mental acceptance, which only makes possibilities plausible. ‘Receiving’ has to do with acceptance by the heart, so that what is received, is taken to the point of actual reliance upon what or Who is received.

We have already found that By His stripes I receive His...

2—By His stripes I receive His...

PRUDENCE(52:13a_b)

Explanation:(52:13a_b)

52:13—“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted & extolled & be very high.”

“Shall deal prudently”

“PRUDENT”—“Acting with or showing care & thought for the future.” Prudence requires knowledge, wisdom & insight among other things. In this case, it is bringing all things together...including God!

The future “Servant” of God is the One who will be “prudent” in all His dealings. He will be One of great godly integrity. So He will accomplish God’s will in a comprehensive way that none other can or will.

Because “Deal Prudently” is in the ‘imperfect tense’, it implies that God’s “Servant’s” work is ongoing. This is not a picture of a mortal man whose work has ended or will end on earth(Eccl. 9:10; Ps. 88:10-12), but is rather a continuing work which is actively maintained(causative) by means of Himself!

Likewise, God’s people are to minister to those who can potentially change their situations...people like you & me.

Eccl. 9:10—“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”

Ps. 88:10-12—“Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise & praise You? Selah Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in the place of destruction? Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?”

The promise of this unique “Servant’s” “prudence” demands an intimate knowledge of God’s will. “Dealing prudently” also demands a willingness to fulfill God’s will/plan in God’s way.

No person can attain heaven or live meaningful lives by their own plan/means. It must be by God’s design, by God’s way!

Lk. 10:22(Mat. 11:27)—[Jesus said]—“All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, & no one knows who the Son is except the Father, & who the Father is except the Son, & the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”

Jn. 5:17-24—“But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, & I have been working.” Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. Then Jesus answered & said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, & shows Him all things that He Himself does; & He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead & gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word & believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, & shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

Jn. 5:25-27—“Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, & now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; & those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, & has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”

2Jn. 1:9—“Whoever transgresses & does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father & the Son.”

Heb. 2:5-10—“For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory & honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory & honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things & by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

“Deal Prudently/Prosper/Act Wisely”—lks saw-kal’—Hiphil(causative) Imperfect—1) To be prudent, be circumspect, wisely understand, prosper—1b) (Hiphil)--1b1) To look at or upon, have insight, 1b2) To give attention to, consider, ponder, be prudent, 1b3) To have insight, have comprehension—1b3a) Insight, comprehension(substantive), 1b4) To cause to consider, give insight, teach—1b4a) The teachers, the wise, 1b5) To act circumspectly, act prudently, act wisely, 1b6) To prosper, have success, 1b7) To cause to prosper. Strong—a primitive root; To be(causatively--make or act) circumspect & hence--Intelligent.

Argumentation:

Eph. 5:15-17—“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

Col. 3:22-25—“Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord & not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, & there is no partiality.”

1 Corinthians 2:9-16—we have the mind of Christ—“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”

Jn. 9:4-5—[Jesus said]—“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

This relates to the ‘prudence’ regarding the unique “Servant’s” unique Service!

Jn. 16:12-15—[Jesus said]—“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; & He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine & declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine & declare it to you.”

Illustration:

I know a family who pays for cars with cash/The husband&wife--father&mother have set an example for their family by paying for their home with cash/They don’t have a fancy home but they have a home nonetheless/They have learned to be frugal/They has taught their kids to live debt-free & encourage them to live debt-free/They are very reluctant to be indebted to any business that makes money off of loaning others money(bank/credit card/loaning institution)/To live like that requires a disciplined prudence that flows from the relationship they have with their Lord Jesus Christ/PRUDENCE

Christians use a true adage—‘While He was on the Cross, I was on His mind.’ That took & continues to take PRUDENCE

Application:

?Have you received a PRUDENCE that is unique to Christ Jesus?

?What have you received By His Stripes?
