DEDICATING/DEDICATION-III—Joshua 6:15-27

The Task Of Dedication

Attention:

Chick-Fil-A Is Politically Incorrect

Nov. 27, 2018

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- Students at a private university in New Jersey can eat more chicken, as long as it's not Chick-fil-A.

Rider University removed the restaurant from a survey of dining options "based on the company's record, widely perceived to be in opposition to the LGBTQ community." The fast-food chain was included in previous surveys.

Chick-fil-A says it has supported Christian values. Its corporate purpose is "to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us."

Rider says it understands some may view the decision as a "form of exclusion." But, the school says it wanted to be "faithful to our values of inclusion."

The university plans to hold a campus forum so that all voices can be heard.

Chick-fil-A has not returned a message seeking comment.

Need:

We must remember that what we do, we do by & for the Lord God who has graced us with salvation by faith in Christ...

...We DEDICATE our lives & our surroundings to Him!

2Cor. 10:3-6—“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments & every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, & being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

The children of Israel were to dedicate the entire city of Jericho—inanimate & animate—to the LORD.

Israel began the conquest of Canaan with the dedication of Jericho to the Lord.

God’s people are to begin God-given tasks by wholly devoting them to the Lord.

How are we to devote/dedicate ourselves, our ministries, & our world to the Lord?

Some Recollections toward fully dedicating ourselves to the Lord.

Previously we’ve found that Dedicating you & your world to the Lord recalls/demands...

1. OWNERSHIP(:17a)

2. DEPENDENCY(:17b, 22-23, 25)

3—Dedicating you & your world to the Lord recalls/demands...

Personal PURITY(:18a)

Explanation:(:18a)Personal/Sacrifice of self towards a commitment.

:18a—“And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, & make the camp of Israel a curse, & trouble it.”

This exhortation/reminder/warning was told them for fear(lest) that some of the Israelites would be tempted by a desire for the possessions of the pagan citizens of Jericho.

They had to be stoked to set/focus their minds & hearts on annihilation of all the inhabitants as well as the dedication of certain material things to the treasury of the Lord(:19).

“Abstain from”:

IF the individuals of Israel did not choose to “abstain”, or keep away from, or treat the “accursed things” as “the accursed things”, then there would be a negative result.

“Lest you become accursed”:

cf.-Ex. 13:2, 11-13

Ex. 13:2—“Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man & beast; it is Mine.”.....“And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you & your fathers, & gives it to you, “that you shall set apart to the LORD all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be the LORD’S. But every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; & if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.

Argumentation:

Lev. 11:45—“For I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

Mat. 5:8—“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”

“Pure”—Free from corrupt desire, Free from sin & guilt; Free from any mixture of what is false; Clean or genuine.—Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon. The absence of im-purity, or No im-purity.

Jn. 3:25-27—“Then there arose a dispute between some of John’s disciples & the Jews about purification. And they came to John & said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, & all are coming to Him!” John answered & said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.”

There is much in the Law of Moses about proper ceremonial ‘cleansing’ & 'purification.' It was a tutor of personal holiness as it related to national purity & holiness. Such purity was to be maintained before God’s people Israel, as well as before lost people as a testimony to them of God’s holiness!

1Pet. 1:13-19—“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, & rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish & without spot.”

Acts 15:7-9—“And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up & said to them: “Men & brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel & believe. So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, & made no distinction between us & them, purifying their hearts by faith.”

2Cor. 6:4-10—“But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand & on the left, by honor & dishonor, by evil report & good report; as deceivers, & yet true; as unknown, & yet well known; as dying, & behold we live; as chastened, & yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, & yet possessing all things.”

Php. 4:8—“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue & if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.”

1Tim. 1:5—“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, & from sincere faith,”

1Tim. 3:8-9—“Likewise[as with overseers/pastors/bishops] deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.”

1Tim. 4:12—[to Timothy]—“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

1Tim. 5:1-2—“Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger as sisters, with all purity.”

Titus 1:15—“To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled & unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind & conscience are defiled.”

Titus 2:11-14—“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness & worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, & godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope & glorious appearing of our great God & Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed & purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

Js. 1:27—“Pure & undefiled religion before God & the Father is this: to visit orphans & widows in their trouble, & to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

Js. 4:7-10—“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil & he will flee from you. Draw near to God & He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; & purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament & mourn & weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning & your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, & He will lift you up.”

2Pet. 3:1, 2—“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, & of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord & Savior,”

2Pet. 3:11-14—“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct & godliness, looking for & hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, & the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens & a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot & blameless;”

1Jn. 1:5-7—“This is the message which we have heard from Him & declare to you, that God is light & in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, & walk in darkness, we lie & do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, & the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1Jn. 3:2-3—“Beloved, now we are children of God; & it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

Rev. 3:18—[to Laodicea]—“I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; & white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; & anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”

Rev. 19:7, 8—“Let us be glad & rejoice & give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, & His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean & bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”

The reason that I have gone thru so many verses of Scripture with you in regard to Purity, is that you & I myself, will be reminded, of the necessity for personal PURITY to fulfill God’s design!

Illustration:

*1996 there was a sickness that ran thru the GA public school system/The culprit was a particular species of bacteria—Eschericia Coli(E. Coli)/E. coli, is a type of bacteria that normally lives in your intestines, but wreaks havoc when it enters other areas of your body!/E. Coli is one of the main contaminants we try to prevent thru pasteurization, washing our hands, & rinsing raw vegetables, etc./In the GA school system, the children’s sickness was eventually linked to fresh strawberries that had been obtained from Mexico/The strawberries had been grown &-or harvested in the presence of animal or human waste, & had not been cleaned properly/The children needed PURITY/Personal PURITY

*Allergies/Cats/Away from cats/Personal PURITY

*Titheing/Not to be redeemed for personal use/Some may mourn the ‘loss’ of their tithe & seek to get a kick-back from the church/Personal PURITY
