Summary: Do we see God in all His Majesty, or do we pick & choose traits we like?

Sermon - Glorify God?

Q- Have you ever wondered What it looks like to Glorify God?

- I’m not sure that people think about bringing God glory, so much as getting people

saved.

- The two go hand in hand, but somewhere in the middle the character of God is

forgotten & we dwell more on the cost of this salvation. We lose sight of the

awe, wonder, majestic, & simply glorious God that He has always been.

Romans 15:8-13

8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

9 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.

10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

- God/Christ paved the way for us to live!

Prayer

- When we give God Glory, we are praising God for His nature.

Q- So, What does God’s nature look like?

He is Holy - Revelation 15:4

He is Eternal - John 4:24

He is Sovereign - Psalm 145:17

He is immutable Hebrews 13:8; James 1:17

He is just - Acts 10:34; Isaiah 61:8

He is loving - 1 John 4:8

He is goodness - Psalm 106:1

He is Kindness - Psalm 25:10

- There has never been, or ever will be a person who fits all these qualifications like

Jesus did.

- He was, & is perfect.

- By The World however, He’s forgotten.

- I know we quickly say that’s not right. People speak of Jesus all the time.

Q- Does the world dwell on how Holy Jesus is?

- No, Let me shock you! 1 in 3 Professed Christians believe Jesus sinned while he

walked the earth. According to a poll conducted by the Barna group.

Q- Does the world believe Jesus is Eternal?

- A poll was taken of 3,000 people in the UK. 39% believed Jesus was a mythical

figure, & didn’t really exist. That’s almost 1,200 people.

Q- Does the world believe Jesus is Sovereign

- Only 48% of 3,000 millennials questioned by the Barna group believed Jesus is

Divine/God.

Q- Does the world believe Jesus is a just Judge?

- 74% believe one small sin isn’t enough to merit an eternity in Hell!

- Now 74% of people surveyed said God is all loving

Q- Now, does the world show the glory/character of God?

- The World shows one trait well, God’s Love.

- When Christians are out there sharing the testimony that Jesus saved me from

Hell. It’s appalling to think that this testimony is shewed when people only take

that one part of God’s Character (God is Love) & say Jesus died & saved us all.

- Yes, Jesus died to save all of us, but only those who have faith in Him.

- God will not change one of His traits for anyone!

Q- Do you remember God’s Words Through Isaiah?

Isaiah 42:8

8 I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

- God is Just. Which means, He can only judge justly!

- Listen,

John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

- Verse 17 said that the world through him might be saved

- It didn’t say, is saved.

- What That means is God will not share His glory with someone who worshipped

krishna their eternal life, because krishna would receive the Glory.

- I know that sounds selfish of God, but it would make Him out to be a liar if,

someone enters eternity by some other way.

- God’s Glory is the fact that He changes not!

Hebrews 13:8

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

James 1:17

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

- Paul wrote to the Church in Rome in verse 11 & said,

Romans 15:11

11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

- Gentile, people’s join together & praise God for the salvation He has given, for the

price He has paid, & the victory He has won.

- The picture resonates with the idea of the Glory in which Jesus will receive, & we

can partake in that Glory or be in shame.

- One day every knee will bow. Whether we loved Jesus, or not!

Philippians 2:10-11

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

- Imagine the return of Christ, as every knee will touch the ground in submission. That

includes Satan & His great hordes of demons.

- The Glory that Jesus shares with us is described in just one word, Hope.

- In the Glory, that is God’s, I have hope.

- Let’s read it again Romans 15:13.

Romans 15:13

13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Q- How do we show the Glory of God?

- Let me close with the outline of our testimony, found in Colossians 1:10-17

Colossians 1:10-17

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

- If we could live a life that mirrored Paul’s words here. We’d be showing the Glory God

deserves.

> Hymn by Horatius Bonar

1. Glory be to God the Father,

glory be to God the Son,

glory be to God the Spirit,

God Almighty, Three in One!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Glory be to him alone.

2. Glory be to him who loved us,

washed us from all sin and stain!

glory be to him who bought us,

made us kings with him to reign!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Praise the Lamb that once was slain!

3. Glory to the King of angels,

glory to the church’s King,

glory to the King of nations;

heav'n and earth, your praises bring!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

To the King of glory sing!

4. "Glory, blessing, praise eternal!"

Thus the choir of angels sings.

"Honor, glory, power, dominion!"

Thus its praise creation brings.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah

Praise the mighty King If Kings

- In everything that we do, let’s do it for the Glory of the Lord!
