Summary: Has anyone ever asked you, "Why do I need Holy Spirit?" If so, what did you tell them? Here is a study that may help us more thoroughly answer this question!

Holy Spirit is the third person of the triune Godhead. Often, when God makes Himself known, He will do it through a Holy Spirit manifestation. The three most common “known” forms of God’s presence are:

1. The Omnipresence – Ever present God (Whether we feel Him or not)

2. Indwelling Presence – The presence of God that we feel inside of us at times.

3. The Manifest Presence – The “Made-Known” presence of God. (Burning Bush, Upper Room etc…)

I. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR TEACHER

John 14:26 - But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

A. Teacher

16. Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

17. That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19. And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

B. Through Discernment

John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

A. The fact that Jesus gave us Holy Spirit as “another Comforter” doesn’t mean that Jesus (our original comforter) has abandoned us!

1. When Jesus returned to heaven His role was expanded.

Hebrews 7:25 - Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

a. He interceded for us on the Cross and now He continues that work at the right hand of our Heavenly Father.

b. Jesus is able to be involved in our lives forever because of His intercessory work on our behalf before the Father.

B. Holy Spirit helps us through tough times

2. He helps us through life adjustments.

3. Holy Spirit is with us for the duration. (God’s power, wisdom and direction never leave us)

A. Guiding is different than leading!
