ABORTION – A POEM

From the Baby's Perspective

They don't know I can hear them, as they argue once again.

My Mom and Dad are yelling, saying, 'what if it's a sin?'

I hear my Father pacing, as he walks across the room,

But, I am safe and cozy here inside my Mother's womb.

In four more months, I'm going to see, the look upon their face,

But, now I am still growing, as I look around this place.

I have all my fingers, and I see all of my toes,

I think that I am perfect, as my little body grows.

They don't know I'm a little girl, I hope they are surprised,

I can't wait to see the happy look that's in their eyes.

I know that I have sisters, and I know I have a brother,

I wonder what they meant by, 'we just can't afford another.'

I hear my Daddy saying, 'the appointment is tomorrow.'

Then he walked out and all I'm feeling now is Mommy's sorrow.

It's late as I can feel my Mommy crawling into bed.

I wonder why she's crying, as I feel her pat my head.

Oh well, it's time to go to sleep, she's laying on her back.

I feel so comfortable tonight, I don't think I'll attack.

Sometimes when she is on her back, it doesn't feel quite right,

And sometimes all that I can do is toss and turn all night.

But I am comfortable tonight, so I can get some sleep,

And as I slowly close my eyes, I hear my Mother weep.

Then suddenly I hear my Dad say, 'wake up sleepy head,

We're going to the doctor's office, so get out of bed.'

It is early morning, and I slept all through the night,

But now I feel my Mother tensing, something isn't right.

I hear my Daddy saying, 'time to get that baby out,'

And now I become worried, as I hear my Mother shout.

I must have been mistaken, and I must have counted wrong,

Could it already be nine months? It didn't seem that long.

I've heard them talk "cesarean" my brother came that way,

If that is how I will be born, this is my lucky day.

Now I hear more voices, of a doctor and a nurse,

But, wait a minute, I feel pain and it is getting worse.

What is going on, I want to see my Mom and Dad,

But all I feel is pain and it is really getting bad.

I'm starting to get woozy, I hope this is over soon,

I see the light as I am being dragged out from the womb.

I'm losing strength, I can't go on, my body is so weak,

And now there's nothing left to do, so I drift off to sleep.

Then suddenly I am awake, now what's that beating sound,

I do not see my Mom and Dad, they're no where to be found.

The pain is gone, and I feel like I'm flying through the air,

And I am in the arms of someone, that must really care.

I feel the tender arms I'm in, and I feel so much love,

And then I realize, they are the angels from above.

My mind is so confused, and all my thoughts need to be sorted,

But then I understand, when one of them whispers, "aborted."

In her poem titled, “the mother,” Pulitzer Award poet Gwendolyn Brooks says, “Abortions will not let you forget, You remember the children you got that you did not get.”

Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. There are two reasons I would like to offer as to why we are against abortion.

1. Human life is sacred:

Human life is so sacred that God gave a law in Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” Numbers 35:30 that says “Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death …” This is repeated in Leviticus 24:17 hat says “Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death.”

Human life did not originate any other way than from God. The Big Bang Theory we all have heard about seems to infer that there was a big explosion and the universe just appeared and planets and stars were formed, then life began and proceeded to evolve. Experts however say that there was no explosion; there was (and continues to be) an expansion. Rather than imagining a balloon popping and releasing its contents, imagine a balloon expanding: an infinitesimally small balloon expanding to the size of our current universe. Cosmogony (the study of the origin of the universe) is an area where science and theology meet. Creation was a supernatural event. It took place outside of the natural realm. We know that this universe had a beginning. Was God the "First Cause"? Yes Genesis 1:1 explains that: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God made the ever-expanding universe, He made the plants, trees, water, seas, land, hills, mountains, valleys, rivers, lilies, roses, birds, fish, animals and humans.

God made us and gave us life

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

1) Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; ….” Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

2) Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

3) Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.

4) Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

5) Isaiah 37:16 “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.

6) Isaiah 42:5 Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it:

7) Isaiah 43:7 Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

8) Isaiah 43:21 The people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.

9) Isaiah 45:12 I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.

10) Psalm 8:4-6 What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You

11) Psalm 100:3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

12) Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

13) Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’

14) John 1:3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

15) Acts 17:26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,

16) Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

17) Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

18) Ephesians 3:9 And to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, ….

19) Colossians 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

20) 1 Timothy 4:4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

21) Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

22) Revelation 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

2. Human life is irreplaceable

Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.

In a sermon titled, “The Magnificence of Man” by Russell Nelson (Magnificence means greatly made) Nelson explains: “Twenty-three chromosomes containing thousands of genes from both the father and the mother unite in one new cell and a marvelous process of genetic coding is established, by which all the basic human characteristics of the unborn person are determined. A new DNA complex is thus formed, and a continuum of growth is instituted—which results in a new human being. Twenty-two days later, a little heart begins to beat. Twenty-six days later the blood begins to circulate, cells multiply and divide, eyes that can see are formed, ears that hear are developed and fingers show up.” The eyes with which we see are magnificent … A self-focusing lens is at the front of each eye. Eyes are connected to the brain, ready to record sights seen. No wires, no batteries, no external connections are needed; our visual apparatus is marvelous—infinitely more priceless than any camera money can buy. Our ears are able to gather and transmit sounds to the brain that records what was heard. Our hearts beat over 100,000 times a day—over 36 million times a year and pumps enough fluid to fill a 2,000-gallon tank every day while consuming less energy than that used by a small light bulb. Our brains are an intricate combination of power cells and recording, memory, storage, and retrieval systems. Our livers, kidneys, endocrine and exocrine glands of the body... are magnificent. All of our organs and systems have backup systems. Our bodies also made to produce chemical antibodies for self-defense, and they are fitted with self-repair and self-renewal mechanisms that can fix injuries and replace cells and tissues.”

There is no creature, organism, mechanism or entity on earth that is as magnificent as the human being. God made humans to be His children. We are the apex of God’s creation. No wonder of the world, no animal or bird is in any way comparable to us. We are wonderfully, magnificently, wondrously, superbly, incredibly, amazingly made. So, abortion is a crime against God Himself. He grieves because of the lives that have been taken through abortions in our world. Since the year of the landmark Roe v Wade case that legalized abortion in America there have been over 61 million abortions in America. Today, January 19, 2020 there have been over 1,400 abortions already. These numbers are staggering but thank God that the number of abortions in America is falling. The year 2019 saw the lowest number of abortions per year since 1973 in America, but worldwide there were 42.4 million abortions making abortion the number 1 cause of death in the world. The most dangerous place in the world is in a mother’s womb.

Abortion in America:

History of Abortion in America

In America, abortion was legal from the 1600’s to the 1800’s. Connecticut was the first state to make abortion illegal in 1821. Violation of that law was not without punishment. During those times, people found many ways to conduct abortions including tightening their girdles, taking abortion pills, herbal drinks, poisons, needles, and self-inflicted injuries to force miscarriages. In 1973, abortion was legalized in America and that law is in force up to now. It was Dr, Martin Luther King jr who said concerning laws, “One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all.” The Christian Church has always grappled with the issue of abortion. In terms of Church history, as early 306 AD the council of Elvira in modern Spain, Nineteen bishops and twenty-six priests agreed that: "If a woman conceives in adultery and then has an abortion, she may not commune again, even as death approaches, because she has sinned twice."

In 692 AD in Constantinople, 215 oriental bishops agreed that: "Those who give drugs for procuring abortion, and those who receive poisons to kill the foetus, are subjected to the penalty of murder."

Around 370 AD Basil: "Let her that procures abortion undergo ten years' penance, whether the embryo were perfectly formed, or not."

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that: Life begins in the Womb

1) Psalm 139:13 For you have possessed my reins: you have covered me in my mother's womb.

2) Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

3) Isaiah 49:1 Listen, O isles, to me; and listen, you people, from far; The LORD has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother has he made mention of my name.

4) Luke 1:44 For, see, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

5) Job 31:15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

6) Psalm 127:3 Children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

7) Exodus 21:22-25 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Science proves unquestionably When Life Begins. According to Dr. Maureen Condic, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Neurobiology, in a June 11, 2014 article that discusses the difference between cells and organisms concludes that human life begins at sperm-egg fusion. God made us from the earth, He made the heavens and the earth from nothing. We began in the heart and mind of God according to Genesis 1:7 Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
