Summary: Jesus is more than religion. Jesus is about a daily personal relationship. There are more than just 10 commandments, 613 MITZVOT AND 4,973 rules. The DO i HAVE TO attitudes misses the target of love. Our goal: THAT I MIGHT KNOW HIM...

THERE IS A PAY DAY AT THE END OF THE ROAD

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr.

I have a little GROUCH and OSCAR in my pocket. One complains. One laughs. Which are you?

HOW MUCH OF GOD DO WE HONESTLY DESIRE? DO WE HAVE A DAILY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A HOLY GOD?

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Do we want just enough of God to ease our conscious? Just let me give a little and do enough to cause me to be able to able to go to sleep and get some rest. Is loving Jesus and serving God a hard labor to you? There are too many “HAVE TO’s.” “DO I HAVE TO? --- is a poor question.

Sure I understand that there are 10 commandments of God. But somehow man has enlarged 613 MITZVOT which are Jewish rules and commandments. These 613 rules cover food, commandments and worship. Somewhere down the line the 10 turns to 613 and then we add traditions and ceremonies and opinions and we come to the point of 4,973 spiritual laws.

*** 10 COMMANDMENTS, 613 MITZVOT, 4,973 SPIRITUAL LAWS WE HAVE TURNED RELIGION INTO IMPOSSIBILITY.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

HAVE TO? HAVE TO? HAVE TO REVEALS A HEART PROBLEM… THE PROBLEM OF THE HEART IS THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM. WE ARE NOT CALLED TO BE A POLICE PERSON OR A JUDGE…

There is much more to God than 10 rules, 613 MITZVOT or 4,973 SPIRITUAL LAWS…

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

When we come to KNOW JESUS… JESUS gives us a WHITE ROBE. Our enemy would love us to grab a BLACK ROBE to become JUDGE JUDY. We pick our friends, sure we pick them to pieces.

IN WHAT SIZE DO WHITE ROBES COME ? One size. The size of Jesus and we grow into God’s plan.

I HAVE LEARNED WHAT BLACK ROBES AND 1O, 613, OR 4,973 LAWS CAN DO TO OUR SPIRITUAL LIFES… WE COME TO JESUS NOT IN LAWS AND RULES… JESUS IS A RELATIONSHIP NOT A RELIGION…

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

True Christianity is not a religion… living with Jesus is a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP!!!

WE ARE NO LONGER SERVANTS WE ARE FRIENDS…

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

WE ARE MORE THAN JUST FRIENDS WE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED, CHOSEN… PICKED… BIRTH YOU HAVE NO CHOICE … ADOPTED PEOPLE ARE CHOSEN ON PURPOSE.

Someone told me people may love me but they don’t like me? They said I am highly opinionated and I am loud. I said if you know that why don’t you change? There is a better way to live that is to love. Be kind and love the hard to love people. Jesus desires you to be his friend when you love and do the things He commands you. We can make the choice to be more than religious. We can have a personal relationship. Jesus says: I'm no longer calling youThere servants because servants don't understand what their master is thinking and planning. Jesus calls us deeper. Jesus knows your name and he says: I invite you to be my friend.

THERE IS A RELATIONSHIP BEYOND FRIEND…. BE MY BROTHER, BE GOD’S SON… BE ADOPTED, BECOME AN HEIR.

BE A HEIR TO GOD’S PLAN.

Galatians 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

YEARS AGO I READ ABOUT A LADY FROM THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS THAT MET A SOLDIER STATIONED THERE. THEY FELL IN LOVE AND MARRIED. The man served 4 in the Philippines and they had a beautiful marriage. They were so in love. When they moved to the states things changed. He started drinking very heavily. He became mean and abusive. He was drunk before he got home and started screaming and cussing her out. He told her how lazy and stupid she was. He pointed to all her short comings. He wanted supper finished and hot when he got home. She had to have his bath water ran. She had to have breakfast waiting on him after his bath.

He was so displeased with her he made a HAVE TO DO LIST and what time she had to do it. She was not allowed to turn on the TV until she was finished. At 5 am she had to wake him up. At 5:15 am, a cup of hot coffee then his bath had to ready and the water had to be hot, but not too hot. At 5:30 am she had to have biscuits, gravy, bacon and eggs on the table. She had to have his Army uniform ready and have his shined boots ready. The rules went on when he left the house she had to make the bed by 7:30. By 8 am she had to sweep and mop the kitchen. By 9 am she had to dust all the furniture. By 10 am she had to clean the bathroom, the tub and the commode. At 11 am she could eat lunch. At noon she had to wash his uniforms and iron and press them. The folds had to be with precision. At 2 pm she had to lay his house shoes next to the door and get his bath robe on his recliner. She then had to peel the potatoes and start preparing the meal. He had printed a daily menu for her to cook.

The wife had a daily printed work schedule and as she finished her work that SHE HAD TO DO AT THE TIME HER HUSBAND SAID. His drunken stupor and his mean mouth caused her to dread him coming home. She hated her husband and she hated his chore list. She hated it.

One day two officers in dress uniforms knocked on her door and informed her that her husband was involved in a terrible accident on the base and he did not survive. There was the funeral with full honors and she was allowed to stay on base. There was a kind soldier that checked on her daily. He was so nice to mow the grass, go to the store and even take her on rides. He treated her with great love and respect. You know the story: Two years later he took her out to eat. He told her he loved her and he pulled out a diamond ring. He asked her to marry him.

So they married. He brought her home flowers. He never drank. He treated her with great respect and in love he honored her. He always spoke kindly. He never said a dirty word. He never raised his voice. She felt like a queen. One day she opened her Bible to the HAVE TO DO LIST of her first husband. She looked at it and remembered all the things she had to check off at the right time. EVERYTHING ON THE LIST SHE FREELY AND GLADLY PERFORMED FOR HER NEW HUSBAND. NOT BECAUSE SHE HAD TO… SHE WANTED TO… SHE LOVED TO…

NEVER FORGET THE FACT THAT JESUS IS A REWARDER… HE RECOMPENSES. HE GIVES IN RETURN, JESUS REWARDS HIS OWN…

CONCLUSION: Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Do we by faith believe that God keeps good records of our works? Do we believe as a FRIEND AND CHILD OF GOD THAT WE DO WHAT WE DO BECAUSE WE LOVE HIM. LOVE KNOWS HOW TO GIVE. By faith we trust that it is possible to obey the plan of God. Do we desire to draw near to God and accept that he does rewards those who seek him? We can approach the throne room of God humbly yet boldly because we are FRIENDS and CHILDREN OF GOD. THE QUESTION IS DO WE SEEK GOD AND LOVE PEOPLE? Do we build a daily personal relationship with the SON OF GOD

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
