Importance of women

1. Ruth 1:16-22

2. Esther 4.1-17

Ps.127

Proverbs 14:1

Every wise woman buildeth her house, Not only by her fruitfulness, as Leah and Rachel built up the house of Israel; but by her good housewifery, prudent economy; looking well to the ways of her household; guiding the affairs of her house with discretion; keeping all things in a good decorum; and bringing up her children in virtue, and in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

A woman who has no fear of God, who is wilful and wasteful, and indulges her ease, will as certainly ruin her family, as if she plucked her house down. but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands; the Vulgate Latin version adds, "being built"; this she does by her idleness and laziness.

Matthew 16:24

A godly woman and a godly young lady learn their manners from the Word of God. They look like Proverbs 31. Sounds like a good idea. This morning join me as we look over the shoulders of the great Biblical women of the faith. Throughout the centuries they have poured over the Scriptures and looked for God's truth.

Ruth 1:16-18, 22

Ruth is one of the most attractive, feminine and godly of the women of the Bible. She is one of two women in the Bible about whom books have been written and after whom those books have been named. Perhaps she also is one of the many characters in the Scriptures of whom no sins are recorded. If God himself doesn’t believe it to be necessary to dish the dirt on many of his followers then our love will hide the sins of others.

1. RUTH FORSOOK MOAB AND ITS GODS.

Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law, was desolated at the loss of her husband and sons. She has lost faith in the God of Israel, and she urged Ruth to go back to Moab as in fact Orpah her other daughter-in-law already has returned, but Ruth rejected her counsels. She chose to stick to her mother-in-law, her God and her people. Her choice certainly entailed an act of renunciation; it was a declaration of her separation from what she had once believed. Ruth was bidding farewell to an old life-style, to her former values and associations. She was waving good-bye to all the idols of Moab; she was turning her back on every single one of them.

Luke 9:23

Jesus said, If any man follow me let him deny himself – there is self-renunciation – take up his cross and follow me. No longer does self-rule, but the Son of God rules over us. Peter said to Jesus, We have left all and followed you.

2. RUTH CHOSE THE PEOPLE OF GOD AND JEHOVAH THEIR LORD.

It was a tremendously personal choice. It is not as a Prime Minister is chosen in the United Kingdom. We vote only for a local candidate in a General Election, and the party with the most elected members of parliament in London becomes the government. Then that party chooses its leader and prime minister and they tell the country who it is. We don’t get to choose him; we choose our local representative. Ruth did not decide to migrate to Israel in order to join the people of God. It was not that when she was there she was told she had to swear her allegiance to the national God of Israel. It was nothing like that; it was the very reverse.

In the Christian faith that is the beginning of our relationship with God. There is the choice of God in Christ to become our teacher, our leader, our keeper and our mediator. His death is the all sufficient answer to our guilt before God. His blood cleanses every one of our sins away.

Queen Esther.

Esther 4.1-17

1: God has a plan for our lives (Esther 4:14)

Mordecai nailed it when he said, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the royal palace for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14 NIV). God loved the Jewish people. And, he didn’t create Esther’s beauty and finesse for her and her alone. Esther was placed in a royal position to assist in the delivery of God’s divine plan.

As believers, there are no such things as accidents or coincidences. God’s timing is providential. Esther’s divine moment of providence came by accepting her responsibility to go to the king. However, Mordecai was clear when he said to Esther that she could be the one who saved the people, or not. God will use you only if you’re ready

2. Esther stood with courage (Esther 4:16).

“I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16 NIV). Esther was willing to die to save her people. Sometimes we must stand in courage, even when it is not popular to do so, and risk it all.

3. Obedience of Esther

Esther’s obedience saved God’s people from genocide. The reality is that Esther didn’t know what would happen when she approached the king. She acted in obedience and by doing so she saved a nation and received the best. We don’t get a pass on this one.
