Summary: Let us understand the role of the shofar in the day of atonement. Jesus desires to set us free, free indeed.

JESUS BREAKS EVERY FETTER

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (Two part lesson) Song: “JESUS BREAKS EVERY FETTER”

Text: Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

What message are you sending to others? Does your mouth and actions come together in agreement? What messages do you send to your family and friends? If our message’s call can't be distinguished what will others think? Will they show up for the battle? Come with me let us understand the ROLE OF THE SHOFAR on the DAY OF ATONEMENT?

THE DAY OF ATONEMENT: YOM KIPPUR. Jewish holy day of fasting, praying and releasing…This is the holiest day of the Jewish year. On this day Jews seek God to forgive their sins. Jews take their MACHZOR, prayer book and blow the shofar (ram’s horn) then they feast. The Jewish tradition is MOSES came down the mountain to find the gold calf. Moses prayed and God atoned for their sin. God then forgave them. Moses returned to the mountain and God gave Moses a second set of stone tablets with the 10 commandments. SO THE DAY OF ATONEMENT, YOM KIPPUR celebrates being SET FREE FROM THEIR SINS. When the trumpet (SHOFAR) sounds THEY ARE FREE, FREE AT LAST.

*FETTER: (Fetters is often used as plural which were used in pairs.) Fetters were made of brass or iron, a chain or shackle for hands or feet, something that restrains, confine, something that hinders progress, handcuff, BONDS, CHAINS,

*BREAK: to interrupt plans or activities, to separate often suddenly, to open a wound, to render inoperable, to make ineffective,

Does your FETTERS prevent you from trying to find God’s plan? Does our fetters hold us back? Does your fetters keep you from achieving your goals?

Psalm 149:8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

IMPRISONED BY METAL BARS? MENTAL BARS? IMPRISONED BY OUR MINDS.

The shofar blast was about many issues. We come to the day of ATONEMENT.

Leviticus 25:9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

Leviticus 25:9 (MSG) Then sound loud blasts on the ram's horn on the tenth day of the seventh month, the Day of Atonement. Sound the ram's horn all over the land.

On the Day of Atonement in the fiftieth year, they blew the ram’s horn loud and long throughout the land. When God’s people heard the SHOFAR BLAST there was a call for everyone. This was a serious obligation to understand THE DAY OF ATONEMENT. This sounding of the SHOFAR is more than a call to the ears… GOD DESIRES US TO HEAR FROM OUR HEARTS. Hear the call to peace, love, unity… THIS SOUNDING OF THE SHOFAR IS THE CALL TO BREAK EVERY FETTER and each person is set free. The call of the shofar will break all that binds, limits and hinders. The call of the shofar means all judgments are broken. We are not just physically free, it is GOD’S CALL to SPIRITUAL RELEASE and FREEDOM.

MISSED THE MARK ---QUIT BLAMING… THIS MAN COULD NOT BE BOUND, YET HE WAS BOUND, HE CAME RUNNING TOWARD JESUS… COME… COME BE SET FREE… WE MUST REFUSE TO FOCUS ON DEMONS, FOCUS ON JESUS!

The call of the shofar reminds us to COME CLOSER TO GOD. Jesus brings the DAY OF ATONEMENT to a HOPELESS PERSON.

Mark 5:4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

WE HEAR SO MUCH ABOUT FREEDOM? JOB: WHAT I FEARED HAD JOB BOUND…

Job 3:24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters. 25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

JOB LEARNED BONDAGE TO FEAR. He said: The worst of my fears has come true, what I've dreaded most has happened.

We often walk in realms of TERROR, WORRY and FEAR. We demand MERCY and GRACE but tend to give judgment and stone throwing. We walk daily tired, weak and weary. Seems we are HANDCUFFED to the very issues that try to manipulate us.

WE CAN NEVER BREAK THE FETTERS UNTIL WE COME TO THE POINT WE CAN ADMIT AND ACKNOWLEDGE WE ARE BOUND… HERODIAS COULD NOT LET GO OF ONE MESSAGE THE PREACHER, JOHN THE BAPTIST PREACHED.

HERODIAS hatred drove her. She was bitter and offended because John preached against the affair Herodias was having with her brother in law.

FETTERS BOUND HERIODA’S IN HATRED… BOUND BY PAST, BOUND BY FAMILY, BOUND BY HABITS.

Matthew 14:8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

PRODIGAL SON RECEIVED HIS FORGIVENESS… BUT HIS ELDER BROTHER … TWO DIFFERENT RESPONSES TO THE SHOFAR CALL TO THE BREAKING OF THE FETTERS.

Luke 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

The older brother was judgmental and angry.

Luke 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

BREAK OUT IN FREEDOM’S CRY… WHEN YOU ARE SET FREE --- YOU CAN OFTEN FREE OTHERS.

Psalm 105:17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. 20 The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

God had a plan. What looked like FETTERS OF DEATH opened a great miracle. Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave. The fetters were cruel, Joseph had bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. HOW CAN FETTERS fulfill your dreams. The LORD tested Joseph’s character by dream crushing events! But one day, THE SUDDEN UNSUDDEN MOVE OF GOD revealed the plan as Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door, and BROKE THE FETTERS.

WE RECYCLE SPIRITUAL MENTAL FETTERS. OUR REAL CONCERN IS FAR BEYOND METAL FETTERS… SEEMS OUR ENEMY HAS PLACED MENTAL CHAINS AND BONDS ON GOD’S PEOPLE.

The enemy shackles us with UNFORGIVENESS, sentimental past history the CYCLES AND RECYCLES over and over again in our hearts and brains. Often we find family histories that are bound by fetters.

HOLY SPIRIT REVEAL OUR FETTERS…1. DOUBT. 2. SELF DOUBT. 3. IGNORANCE.4. OPINIONATED, BULL HEADED. 5. SENSUAL DESIRES. 6. NO PEACE. 7. HATRED. 8. TOO MUCH SELF-CONFIDENCE. 9. CO-DEPENDENCY. 10. ANGER, WRATH. 11. JUDGMENTALISM. 12. LACK OF JOY --- THE RULE OF DEPRESSION AND SORROW.

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

There comes a day when God says enough is enough. When that day comes, our limitations and fetters will be pulled off your back, and the yoke of sin, doom and slavery will be lifted from your neck. ALL CURSES WILL BE LIFTED! WE CAN SING: JESUS RELEASED ME… Angels came into the jail….

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

CONCLUSION: Let us take the anointing oil from the altar and speak words that will decree all the fetters are broken in the name above all names: JESUS CHRIST.
