Summary: How many of you hold to our statement of, this too shall pass? - We faithfully hold to this thought, but it’s not found in scripture.

Sermon- This too shall pass.

- I wish I was standing at the pulpit right now. So I could see a show of hands, as I ask this question.

Q- How many of you hold to our statement of, this too shall pass?

- We faithfully hold to this thought, but it’s not found in scripture.

- Here’s the topic of today’s message.

Q- If it’s not in scripture, where did it come from?

- There is a very real & amazing truth about our God.

- When we open the pages of this book. We’re not reading the pages. It’s reading

us.

- God’s Word is Alive, & it relates to us the character of God

- What we hold on to is the reality that is the God we know. He will bring us through

the storm, this too shall pass.

- Jesus is the blessed Son of God, God in the flesh. Here is what was prophesied by

David in Psalm 16:10.

Psalm 16:10

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

- David was looking forward to the day of deliverance that was coming to him, & He

was giving the steadfast assurance through the deliverance God will give through

Jesus, the Holy One.

- Think about the hope David had & What That means for us, & let’s pray.

Prayer

Q - Why does it matter that God would not let His Holy One see corruption?

- Listen to Acts 13:36-39.

Acts 13:36-39

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

- Sin came upon this world & there was nothing we could do to remove the stain of sin.

- God gave a way to cover the sin to Moses, but the sacrifices were temporary. The

stain was still there.

- Then the ultimate sacrifice came. Jesus sacrificed Himself, for our redemption, &

to wash us from all sin.

Q- What are we if we’re without sin?

- We are Holy.

- Now, go back with me, & read Psalm 16:10.

Psalm 16:10

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

- The idea of, this too shall pass, comes from right here.

- God will not suffer His Holy one to see corruption.

- Listen to Paul.

2 Corinthians 5:8

8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

- Not even death can hold us!

- There is a second part to this.

- We know that through Christ we have life eternal. That’s for sure.

Q- What about the trials that we face each day?

Q- Will they pass away?

James 1:2

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Q- Why would we have Joy in the middle of a temptation?

James 3-4

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

- It’s clear that after you go through something, you’re changed, you’re stronger.

- This is also God’s way of affirming to us, through James, this too shall pass.

- What we’re going through will come to an end.

- The Lord gives us comfort through this, but I know we have to bring up the

elephant in the room.

Q- If it will one day pass, why must it come in the first place?

- Normally I would tell you about the patience, & building us up, but James already

said that.

Q- What is so significant about all these things coming, & the going, Nothing ever

lasts?

- That’s our message, Nothing lasts.

- We find comfort in the bad going away, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that

our time here is short.

Q- What Do we do with our time?

- Here’s Paul’s instruction in Galatians 6:10

Galatians 6:10

10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

- The message of “this too shall pass” is a message of action.

Q- Do we look around & tend to the needs we see around us?

- Jesus came, because we needed a savior.

- He filled that need.

- He took our sins, & purged them, washed them in the blood of His cross.

- Now we(all who have called Jesus Christ their savior) are called His Holy (set

apart) ones.

- As I close, Think about what that means for our lives.

- This is something that will not pass away, I am Holy.

- The Lord has changed me. I am new.

- So, now I will serve as the Only One has served, & I will do these works,

because my time is short.

Q- How many times do we say, this too shall pass?

- Let’s let it be a reminder, every time we say this, that my time is short I have got to

get to work.

- I pray that this message will inspire us to keep reaching out, & bless people

with the Love of God that we have already received.
